All 4 Shrek Movies Coming To Netflix In September 2023
Image
The Shrek franchise has been beloved since its launch with the first installment in 2001, despite some ups and downs in quality, and because of its branching off into new directions with exciting spinoffs. Following the flagship that won the first ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, DreamWorks followed up with 2004's Shrek 2, widely considered to be the best Shrek movie.

Despite the less-than-well-received Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, Antonio Banderas' Puss in Boots movies were hits, especially 2022's Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which completely revamped things with a more philosophical villain and stylized 3D animation. Now, new installments are on the horizon.

While fans...

¡Malas noticias! ‘Shrek 5’ retrasa su fecha de estreno.

Tu ogro favorito no llegará hasta 2027. © DreamWorks Animation

Shrek 5 Release Delayed as DreamWorks Pushes Beloved Ogre's Return to 2027
Image
Shrek fans will have to wait a little longer to return to the swamp. DreamWorks Animation has just pushed back the release of Shrek 5.

According to Variety, Universal and DreamWorks Animation have delayed the release of Shrek 5 from Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2026, to Wednesday, June 30, 2027. This marks the second major release date change for the Shrek sequel, as the movie was first dated for release on July 1, 2026. However, Universal later pushed Shrek 5 back to December 2026 to give its July release date to Illumination's Minions 3. Now the tables have turned, as Shrek 5 has taken over the June 2027 date that Universal had previously reserved for an Untitled Illumination Event Film, with that mystery project now set to hit theaters two months earlier on Apr. 16, 2027.

While pushing Shrek 5 to Summer 2027 means that it will no longer have to open just days after Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part Three, and Ice Age 6,...

‘Shrek 5’ Delay Explained — And Why It’s a Good Call
Image
The release date for Shrek 5 has been pushed back from December 23, 2026, to June 30, 2027. This new date helps the movie avoid a crowded holiday season filled with other big releases like Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part III, and Ice Age 6, all coming out on December 18, 2026. Moving away from such a competitive time gives Shrek 5 a better chance to stand out and reach more viewers.

Universal also moved an untitled Illumination movie from Shrek 5’s original release date to April 16, 2027. The companies behind Shrek 5 are Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation. This film will be the first main Shrek movie since Shrek Forever After came out in 2010. The Shrek world has also grown with two Puss in Boots spin-offs featuring Antonio Banderas.

Zendaya is joining the cast as Shrek’s daughter, while Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Fiona) are all returning to their roles. Walt Dohrn...

‘Shrek 5’ Just Got Delayed – Here’s Why It Makes Perfect Sense
Image
The release date for Shrek 5 has been moved from December 23, 2026, to June 30, 2027. This change means the movie will avoid competing with other big films coming out during the busy holiday season, like Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part III, and Ice Age 6, all scheduled for December 18, 2026.

Universal also shifted an untitled Illumination movie from the original Shrek 5 date to April 16, 2027. Both Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation are working on Shrek 5, which will be the first main Shrek film since Shrek Forever After in 2010. The Shrek universe has also expanded with two Puss in Boots spinoff movies featuring Antonio Banderas.

Zendaya is joining the cast as Shrek’s daughter, while the original stars Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Fiona) are returning to their roles. The movie is directed by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, with Brad Ableson, who co-directed Minions: The Rise of Gru, also involved.

'Shrek 5’ Sets Release Date With Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy Returning
Image
For the second time this year, everyone's favorite layered green ogre is moving further away from the big screen. Universal has moved DreamWorks Animation's Shrek 5back six more months, taking it from December 23, 2026, to June 30, 2027, at the height of the summer. Coupled with its first delay back in January, it means the animated sequel has moved back a full year from its originally planned July 1, 2026, return to Far Far Away. Fortunately for Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey, it does at least move their big cinematic comeback away from a very crowded holiday schedule that will see the release of Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three.

One big downside to the latest move is that Shrek 5 will no longer make it in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the mold-breaking animated fairytale that started it all. The film was originally meant to be timed to the occasion, bringing back...

‘Shrek 5’ Bumped to June 2027 at DreamWorks Animation
Image
“Shrek 5” is moving further and further away.

DreamWorks Animation’s latest sequel, which reunites Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz, along with newcomer Zendaya, is moving from December 23, 2026 to June 30, 2027.

Additionally, Universal has moved an untitled Illumination film from June 30, 2027, up to April 16, 2027.

This move means that “Shrek 5” will avoid going up against Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday,” which also opens for Christmas 2026. (It will be the first “Avengers” film to open during the holidays.)

Instead, “Shrek 5” adds to what has suddenly become a stacked lineup of animated blockbusters in June 2027. While Universal is seeking to capitalize from the extended Fourth of July weekend, with the holiday itself falling on a Sunday in 2027, “Shrek 5” will be released a week after Sony’s “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” and two weeks after the Pixar original film “Gatto.”

Whether this move will trigger one of those studios...

Shrek 5 Release Date Set for June 2027
Image
Universal Pictures has moved back the release date for DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 5 from December 23, 2026, to Wednesday, June 30, 2027. Before the December 2026 date, the fifth installment was previously scheduled for a July 1, 2026, release.

It’s worth noting that the new release date is just five days after Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on June 25, 2027. Universal’s release of Illumination’s The Untitled Illumination Event Film will also move from June 30, 2027, to Friday, April 16, 2027, taking the place of another untitled Universal event film.

DreamWorks Animation invites audiences back to a land Far, Far Away for a thrilling new adventure in one of the most beloved global animated franchises of all time: Shrek 5.

Comedy legends Mike Myers, Oscar nominee Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz return to their signature roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, and will be joined by Zendaya.

Acclaimed filmmakers and Shrek franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn will direct Shrek 5.

‘Shrek 5’ Release Date Delayed to June 2027
Image
The new release date for “Shrek 5” is Far, Far Away.

Universal and DreamWorks Animation have postponed the fifth “Shrek” film from Dec. 23, 2026, to June 30, 2027. This is the second release date delay for “Shrek 5,” which was originally set for July 2026. The studio didn’t give a reason for the hold-up, but Universal has fielded outsized success with animated fare — such as “Despicable Me” franchise, “How to Train Your Dragon” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” — in the summer months.

On its new release date, “Shrek 5” will open less than a week after Sony’s animated “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.” On its prior date in December 2026, the family film was scheduled to debut in the wake of Disney’s “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Ice Age 6.”

As part of the move, Universal has shifted up the premiere of Illumination’s Untitled Event Film to April 16, 2027, instead of its original late June date.

The Naked Gun review | Surely the 2025 version can’t work?
Image
Liam Neeson is Frank Drebin Jr in the brand new The Naked Gun. Sacrilege, then, or a surprise? Here’s our review.

I love the films of the late, great Carl Reiner as a rule, but 1993’s Fatal Instinct wasn’t one of his best. Riding on the coattails of the original The Naked Gun and the Hot Shots! films, it was one of a growing collection of spoof movies that misunderstood the ground rules. One: play it straight, and two: a visual reference to another film isn’t a joke. It’s just a visual reference to another film.

(See also: Epic Movie, Meet The Spartans, Date Movie et al.)

It’s no secret that the director of the original The Naked Gun, David Zucker, has thus hardly blessed this 2025 reboot with his best wishes, but I can’t help thinking he might be pleasantly surprised. As much as...

Eddie Murphy Teases ‘Shrek 5’ & Shares Update On Donkey Movie Spinoff: “They’ve Written This Funny Story”
Image
Eddie Murphy is sharing an update on the new Shrek movie as well as giving details about a Donkey spinoff in the works.

While promoting his new film, The Pickup, Murphy mentioned that he is still doing voiceover work for Shrek 5, which is expected to be released on December 23, 2026.

“We’re still in the booth, and literally, we’re still doing Shrek,” the actor told ScreenRant.

As far as the spinoff movie starring his character Donkey, Murphy said they start work on it in September, adding, “We’re doing a Donkey one, and that’ll be three years from now, but we’re about two years into Shrek 5. Still in the booth and about to start Donkey in September.”

Murphy clarified that the Donkey project is a movie “like how Puss in Boots had his own movie.”

Ahead of Shrek 5, Eddie Murphy Shares an Exciting Update on Donkey Spinoff
Image
A fifth Shrek movie is in development, but this won't be all that's in store for fans of the franchise to anticipate. Donkey is also set to get his own spinoff, and Eddie Murphy has shared the latest update on the exciting project.

Per ScreenRant, Murphy was present at San Diego Comic-Con to promote his new movie, The Pickup. He was asked about the status of Shrek 5, which he confirmed was still having voices recorded for its theatrical release in 2026. It won't be long before Murphy will be back in the booth to record more lines as Donkey once that's finished, as he also revealed that production on the spinoff starts in September.

"No, they're still doing voiceover stuff," Murphy said of Shrek 5. "We're still in the booth, and literally, we're still doing Shrek. We start in September on Donkey, we're doing a Donkey one, and that'll be three years from now,...

15 Highest-Grossing Movie Composers Of All Time
Image
Steven Spielberg is the highest-grossing director with $10.7 billion in worldwide box office (not adjusted for inflation), with James Cameron right behind at $8.7 billion, basically one "Avatar" movie. The top-grossing actors include Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Zoe Saldana, and Chris Pratt each in the $14 billion range (unadjusted). Pretty darn impressive ... but film composers scoff at such meager numbers, probably while twirling their batons.

The highest-earning film composers don't just match these figures; they far exceed them. Movie composers get their due credit, as their work is frequently one of the most enjoyable and enduring parts of the films we love. But while we talk a lot about composers, it's not often that the conversation turns to what really matters in Hollywood -- the money they make for movie studios. We're going to change that right now. You have seen their movies. You definitely know their work. Now...

The 15 Best Eddie Murphy Movies, Ranked
Image
Eddie Murphy has made 42 feature films, not counting stand-up specials and documentary appearances. And while he's dabbled in dramas like many other comedians have, he remains best known for making people laugh. It's understandable, as he got his start on "Saturday Night Live" in 1980 before breaking out on the big screen with some of the decade's most memorable comedies. He went on to tweak his appeal and found even greater success with family comedies that still sit among his highest-grossing films (although he does regret turning down a movie in the 1980s that combined live-action with animation).

Of course, Murphy's also seen some down years as several of his movies failed to find receptive audiences or critical acclaim, resulting in some notably rough Rotten Tomatoes streaks. Films like "The Adventures of Pluto Nash," "Holy Man," and "Meet Dave" probably have their defenders, but don't go expecting to find them in the list below.

$1 Billion Milestone Slips Away from ‘Lilo & Stitch’ As It Overtakes $250 Million Harry Potter Movie at Global Box Office
Image
With direct competition in the form of Universal’s How to Train Your Dragon remake, Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch re-imagining is watching its worst fears come true. The movie was poised to hit the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office ever since its debut over a month ago, but is now slowing down in the home stretch. Earlier this year, A Minecraft Movie had a similar trajectory at the global box office, ending its run with just over $950 million — painfully short of the coveted milestone. Lilo & Stitch has grossed $946 million at the global box office so far, with $400 million coming from domestic theaters.

Disney hasn’t had a billion-dollar hit since Moana 2 last year, and has delivered a trio of underperformers already in 2025. One of them was a live-action remake as well. Snow White barely crossed the $200 million mark worldwide, against a reported budget of over $250 million.

DreamWorks Learned A Vital Lesson With Puss In Boots 2 – And We're Starting To See Its Impact
Image
Animation has never been more at risk, from the threat of AI replacing animators, to studio consolidation scrapping projects because the big bosses don't care about the medium, or studios straight-up shutting down all in-house productions.

What animation studios remain in production are all focused on one single thing: franchising. As if the IP craze of live-action wasn't enough, the big animation studios like Disney, Warner Bros., and DreamWorks are singularly focused on growing their IP, churning out sequel after sequel (with the occasional original story here and there as a treat). Of course, this isn't automatically a bad thing. Take DreamWorks, who is arguably the champion of animated trilogies, and who, in 2022 delivered one of the best animated movies of the decade with "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish."

Since then, DreamWorks has delivered lackluster sequels to successful movies, like "Trolls Band Together" and the disappointing "Kung Fu Panda 4.

Sinners Box Office: Its 41-Day Domestic Streak Of $1M+ Beats Avengers Endgame & The Dark Knight — But Which Film Holds The All-Time Record?
Image
Sinners Unlocks A New Feat. At The Domestic Box Office ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

The Michael B. Jordan-starrer Sinners has struck a chord with cinemagoers in a way few original films manage, especially in recent years. Adding to its consistent box office haul in North America, the film currently stands at $267 million in the region (via Box Office Mojo). But more notably, it’s claimed a miscellaneous feat in the history of the domestic box office.

Until May 29, Sinners had earned over $1 million every single day since its release — an uninterrupted streak of 41 days. The run finally ended on Thursday, ahead of what was still a strong seventh weekend when Sinners rebounded to earn $5.2 million, despite waning intensity and reduced theater counts. While the dip came just before the weekend could prop it up again, the streak remains a substantial achievement.

The 25 Highest-Grossing Memorial Day Box Office Openings of All Time
Image
Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and the box office is looking up after a grim 2024. Last year, “Mad Max” prequel “Furiosa” scored the lowest No. 1 Memorial Day weekend in nearly three decades, since 1998’s “Casper,” with an estimated $31 million take last year. Conversely, in 2025, Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” is earning a staggering $183 million to set a new box office record, unseating Tom Cruise’s “Top Gun: Maverick.”

For that reason, it feels like a good time to look back at the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend box office openings of all time, dating back to 1996. Now, it’s important to note these are Memorial Day weekend openings not Memorial Day weekend box office champions – “The Day After Tomorrow” pulled in over $85 million when it opened in 2004, but the top film at the box office for the holiday weekend was holdover “Shrek 2.”

Interestingly enough, the list is chock-full...

A Minecraft Movie Breaks Into Another All-Time Box Office After One Month As It Nears Passing Another Jack Black Hit
Image
A Minecraft Movie has just made it onto another impressive all-time box office list. The video game adaptation was released in theaters early last month on April 4. ‘Arco’ Review: France’s Answer to Studio Ghibli Offers an Emotional Sci-Fi Epic
Image
There’s one particular journey the makers of “Arco,” a soulful animated movie premiering in the Special Screenings section of Cannes 2025, are hoping to follow, whether they say it or not. The journey of “Flow.”

That animated triumph premiered to raves at Cannes in 2024 and slowly built momentum until finally winning the Best Animated Feature Oscar earlier this year. For all Cannes represents to global cinema, it had never been a particularly fecund environment for animation: The festival used to play host to splashy premieres for blockbuster hits such as “Shrek 2” and “Bee Movie,” not eventual Academy Award winners. “Flow” changed all that. What would Cannes do for animation next?

This writer is no Oscar prognosticator, but it seems “Arco” is unlikely to repeat that triumph. Not that it isn’t a worthy film — though not as worthy as the wordlessly universal “Flow,” which, at times, truly feels like...

‘A Minecraft Movie’ Just Built Itself a Place on a Major Box Office List
Image
No other movie has managed to reach the heights of A Minecraft Movie at the 2025 box office. By some considerable distance, Jared Hess' video game adaptation is the biggest hit of the year, turning in over $909 million from six weeks in theaters, split between a domestic total of $408.9 million and $500.6 million from overseas markets. Starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa in lead roles, the movie was always destined to be somewhat of a hit, but, given the frustrating lack of appeal the 2025 theatrical line-up has had on audiences so far, many couldn't have predicted it would be an almost-billion-dollar hit.

After surpassing major blockbusters such as Spider-Man 3, Shrek 2, and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, thanks to another impressive weekend at the box office, A Minecraft Movie has now officially entered the 75 highest-grossing movies in global history. This might seem like a trivial statistic...

‘A Minecraft Movie’ Swings Past Most Divisive Spider-Man Hit In Its Quest Towards $1 Billion at Global Box Office
Image
After having completed more than a month of release in theaters worldwide, A Minecraft Movie has passed its biggest milestone yet. The video game adaptation remains the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year, and is now in the home stretch of its mission to hit the coveted $1 billion mark at the global box office. Directed by Jared Hess, A Minecraft Movie stars hit-makers Jack Black and Jason Momoa in the lead roles, and has successfully demonstrated the power of the Gen-z audience. Its unexpected success can be compared to the viral hit Five Nights at Freddy’s a couple of years ago.

With over $400 million domestically and more than $500 million from overseas markets, A Minecraft Movie’s cumulative global haul has now passed the $900 million mark. It currently stands at $909 million, which puts it ahead of millennial favorites such as Spider-Man 3, Shrek 2, and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

Mel Gibson's Controversial Jesus Movie Unsurprisingly Finds New Success 21 Years Later on Streaming
Image
Mel Gibson's Jesus movie, The Passion of the Christ, has been drowning in controversy since the project was announced. Aside from a stunning box office run and multiple award nods, the movie has just become a hit on Netflix 21 years later.

With a sequel on the way over two decades later, The Passion of the Christ's success on streaming was not coincidental. Movies following the life of Jesus Christ were a big hit over the Easter weekend, as expected. Per Tudum, The Passion of the Christ was one of the big hits of the week.

The Mel Gibson-directed film just debuted on Netflix and, for the week between Apr. 16 and 22, it reached the second place spot in the global non-English charts. The movie received 8.5 million views and 17.1 million hours viewed. Although it didn't manage to top the charts, its run 21 years later is still highly impressive.

Shrek's New Look in 'Shrek 5' Isn't Actually That Bad
Image
Quick LinksShrek's 2020s Makeover for 'Shrek 5'The Positive Side of Shrek's Redesign

Animation lovers, rejoice! Shrek is coming back to the big screens in late 2026. This DreamWorks franchise is easily one of the most popular animated properties of this century. So a new film should have united fans both young and old, right? Right? Not exactly, as all anyone can talk about online is the new design of the characters in Shrek 5. It's difficult to define just what exactly is upsetting fans, but it mostly boils down to Shrek looking "different."

This redesign isn't that unexpected, as it's been nearly 16 years since the last Shrek movie. CGI animation has improved in that time, with DreamWorks utilizing new technological methods. It's also been a full 25 years since the inaugural Shrek film, released when CGI was in its infancy. Each of the three subsequent films preserved most of the designs...

Here's What Fans are Saying About the Shrek 5 Teaser Trailer
Image
The Shrekfranchise has had a hold on pop culture for over two decades since the release of the first film in 2001. The unofficial mascot of DreamWorks, Shrek, has become a figure associated with humor and satire as the film critiques conventional notions of fairy tale stories, mainly poking fun at companies like Disney for its tired tropes. The franchise currently has four main films and two spinoff films centering around the secondary character, Puss in Boots.

With the release of Shrek Forever After in 2010, many thought that this would be the end of the main series. Once talks started to emerge that a fifth film was in development, fans wondered where the series could go next with the main cast of characters. On February 27, 2025, an official casting announcement was released on Universal Pictures's YouTube channel. The 27-second clip features five characters who appeared in the preceding films and a...

Shrek 5’s animation gets a backlash from fans on social media
Image
A fifth Shrek film has been officially in the works. It’s set for a December 2026 release date (around the 25th anniversary of the original film) , with original cast members Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy all confirmed. Murphy himself, in the press lead-up to Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, revealed that some recording had already been done for the film and that his character, Donkey, is set for his own spinoff movie. Yesterday, it was announced that Zendaya will be joining in on the next storybook adventure as she’s been cast as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter.

The studio revealed the news in an announcement teaser trailer that showed all the regular principal characters returning, as well as the addition of Zendaya’s character. Just like the Toy Story movies have evolved, many will notice that the animation in the new trailer has been updated with more modern effects.

'Shrek 5' Casts Zendaya as Shrek's Daughter
Image
Zendaya is Meechee, Chani, and Tashi, but now she will be... Felicia, a.k.a. Shrek's daughter in Shrek 5. Shrek 5 is slated to hit theaters in December 2026, marking 16 years since everyone's favorite ogre graced the silver screen with his own feature film. Shrek 5 has easily become one of the most anticipated movies of 2026 and now has the added advantage of an entire generation who grew up with the original Shrek movies now being old enough to be some of Hollywood's newly established actors who would leap at the chance to join the franchise.

It appears one A-lister joining the Shrek franchise is Zendaya. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Zendaya has joined the cast of Shrek 5 as Shrek's daughter Felicia, first seen in Shrek the Third. The character will now be a full-grown teenager in the upcoming sequel. Universal Pictures released an official video revealing the cast,...

First ‘Shrek 5’ Trailer Introduces Shrek’s Daughter Zendaya
Image
The first teaser for “Shrek 5” has arrived and Shrek’s kids are all grown up — and apparently, Zendaya is indeed voicing one of them. Although, her character is horrified at the magic mirror’s latest reveal.

“Hey magic mirror! Who’s the fairest of them all?” Donkey eagerly asks, once again voiced by Eddie Murphy. The answer apparently is Shrek, as the mirror provides memed versions of the ogre in response.

You can watch the first footage in the video, below.

Far, Far Away's finest are coming. pic.twitter.com/7qn8FNIBT6

Among the results is a very buff Shrek, prompting his daughter Felicia (Zendaya) to pop in and gag at it, while Fiona — voiced by a returning Cameron Diaz, after making her acting comeback in Netflix’s “Back in Action” earlier this year — fawns over it.

Who’s responsible for such horrifying images, you ask?...

Zendaya Joins ‘Shrek 5’ Voice Cast as Shrek’s Daughter
Image
Zendaya is taking her talents to the swamp.

The mononymous, in-demand actor has joined “Shrek 5” as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz).

Universal and DreamWorks, the studios behind the animated adventure set in the land of Far, Far Away, released a teaser along with the updated casting news. In the clip, Shrek’s trustee sidekick Donkey (Eddie Murphy) asks: “Hey Magic Mirror, who’s the fairest of them all?”

Magic Mirror, you know, the one from “Snow White,” responds: “Why Shrek! Of course.”

But this Magic Mirror appears to have a distinctly 21st century twist, allowing the green ogre to swap between various Gen Z-ified looks at Shrek. This prompts very different reactions from Felicia and Fiona as Shrek raises the question of the hour: “Who is making this stuff?” Just then, Pinocchio pops up to tell a nose-growing lie, declaring “Not me!”

Image
Shrek 5 has landed a star that may make other franchises green with envy.

Zendaya has joined the venerable animated film series as the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz). She also joins Eddie Murphie, the voice of Donkey.

Zendaya is one of the most in-demand stars working today, with her upcoming schedule including Dune: Messiah, the fourth Spider-Man movie and Euphoria season three. Last year, she starred in Challengers, the well-regarded tennis drama from Luca Guadagnino, as well as Dune: Part Two. Her presence in Shrek 5 gives extra vibrancy to the 25-year-old franchise and could help bring new audiences to the fold.

The feature has a Dec. 23, 2026 release date from Universal and DreamWorks Animation, and is the first in the main series since 2010’s Shrek Forever After.

Shrek veterans Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon direct, along with Minions: The Rise of Gru co-director Brad Ableson.

15 Times Shrek 2 Was The Best Animated Sequel Ever
Image
The arrival of Shrek in 2001 symbolized the pinnacle of animated storytelling until that point, as well as demonstrating the existence of animation studios other than Disney and Pixar. The film made it a point to satirize and subvert the classic fairy tales depicted in earlier Disney movies. Over the years, fans have reflected on Shrek not only as a meme but as a genuinely enjoyable film.

Shrek is an excellent movie by itself, but its sequel, Shrek 2, was arguably even better than the first installment in the franchise. While many animated sequels these days are just retreading the same ground covered by their predecessors, Shrek 2 is one of the few that managed to tell an entirely new story. Shrek 2 added great characters to the franchise, dealt with more expansive themes and lore, and generally improved upon Shrek in every way.

De La Hoya, who was unmasked as Fuzzy Peas, says he knew he couldn’t compete against some of the golden voices he was up against. “When they asked me to do the show, I was like, ‘Ok, wait a minute. I do have experience with singing.’ I cut an album back in the day, and I got nominated for a Grammy.,” he told Variety. “And so I said to myself, ‘Ok. I have a little voice. Chinese Sensation ‘Ne Zha 2’ Has Just Surpassed ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ at the Global Box Office
Image
After just two weeks in theaters, Ne Zha 2 is already a massive success. It kicked off its international release on Friday, and with the Presidents’ Day weekend, the movie is on track to pull in over $6 million.

So far, it has crushed expectations, becoming the biggest hit of 2025. The movie has even surpassed major milestones, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon.

By its 18th day, Ne Zha 2 had already made over $1.5 billion in China alone. This puts it in the history books as the second-highest-grossing animated film ever, just behind Inside Out 2 with a total of nearly $1.7 billion.

Along the way, it’s outdone Toy Story 3, Shrek 2, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Frozen II. The movie has achieved this feat without even being released outside of China.

Now, Ne Zha 2 is racing toward a major milestone: it has already overtaken films like The Avengers,...

The First Three 'Shrek' Films are Climbing the Netflix Chart as Fans Await 'Shrek 5'
Image
The first three Shrek movies have once again found themselves in the Netflix global Top 10. As of this writing, Shrek sits at number two, Shrek 2 is at number four, and Shrek the Third is at number eight. While none have yet to crack Netflix's United States top 10 chart, it proves that the animated classics are beloved by audiences worldwide.

When Shrek opened in 2001, it was one of DreamWorks Skg's earliest animated films. The studio was launched in 1994 by Hollywood and music legends Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen. It was seismic, as it was the first major studio in decades and featured three of the most powerful people in entertainment. Spielberg was coming off the dual successes of Schindler's List and Jurassic Park, Katzenberg had turned around Disney's animated film division, and Geffen was one of the biggest music moguls on the planet.

The first animated movies that...
