James Gunn has his sights set on the queen of Oscars herself, and while discussing dream collaborations on The Viall Files, he dropped Meryl Streep’s name without hesitation. The director revealed that she had once expressed interest in working with him, which makes us wonder if we’ll ever see her in the Dcu.
Streep has had a legendary career with 20 Oscar nominations and three wins for Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice, and The Iron Lady, making her one of the few actors with multiple Academy Awards to her name. So the idea of her joining forces with Gunn is nothing short of extraordinary, and his words reveal how...

When Hulu began releasing the first season of The Handmaid’s Tale in 2017, the parallels between the show and real life were stark.
The series had introduced Elisabeth Moss as June, a mother and wife who was captured by the totalitarian fascist regime the Republic of Gilead that had overthrown the U.S. government. Gilead, which is governed by men, is disguised as a theocratic society but really is built on trampling the rights of women and even on a culture of rape.
In those first episodes, viewers watched via flashbacks as June’s rights, along with those of every woman she knew, were gradually stripped away. Series creator Bruce Miller and his team illustrated in terrifying detail the step-by-step process of how Gilead blindsided a fictional world entering a global fertility crisis and forced largely underclass women into being birth “handmaids” for the elite. [Editor’s note: This story contains spoilers for the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale.]

Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford co-starred in 1997's The Devil's Own, a crime drama that explored controversial political themes. Both actors were cast as the film's protagonists, which was problematic given the nature of the script.
The Devil's Own will be available to stream on Netflix from June 1. Directed by Alan J. Pakula, this action-thriller was one of Brad Pitt's early hits. The film revolves around Francis McGuire (Pitt), an Ira (Irish Republican Army) member sent to buy black market missiles in the United States. He stays with Irish-American NYPD Sergeant Tom O'Meara (Harrison Ford) and his family. Things come to a head when Tom realizes Francis' true motives.
The Devil's Own was a box office success, despitemixed reception from audiences and critics. Much of the contention revolved around the controversial premise. Film critic Roger Ebert stated that the story showed "ignorance of the history of Northern Ireland," it also...

Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan is reportedly in talks to join the star-studded cast of Greta Gerwig's Narnia adaptation for Netflix. The project also has Meryl Streep, Daniel Craig, and Emma Mackey reportedly attached. Mulligan is an acclaimed actress who has garnered Oscar nominations for her work in Maestro, Promising Young Woman, and her breakthrough role in An Education. Her other notable credits include performances in films such as Never Let Me Go, Drive, and Inside Llewyn Davis.
Gerwig, whose last directorial effort was the history-making Barbie, is not only set to direct but has also penned the screenplay for the Netflix project. Given Gerwig's impressive attention to detail in crafting Barbie's layered and vibrant world, our expectations for her vision of Narnia are strong. We expect that Gerwig will bring a high level of imaginative depth to C.S. Lewis' magical realm.

Paul Heyman is a snake. He betrays every client and friend (including Brock Lesnar twice), and his justifications for betraying them sound silly and show us why someone like Heyman should never be trusted. Roman Reigns was his ‘tribal chief,’ yet he got a n*t shot in the main event of WrestleMania, but today, he reminded us why this had to be done.
Roman Reigns, the ‘Tribal Chief,’ was abusive. He gaslighted and manipulated people in his own group so that he could get what he wanted. Paul Heyman, too, wasn’t spared, which built up resentment. The Wiseman had to humble Reigns’ arrogance.

Presently, Cm Punk is a very angry man. He was always angry, but right now, he is bent on teaching a lesson to his supposed ‘best friend’: Paul Heyman. Instead of being on the sidelines, he actively took out Punk during the Night 1 main event of WrestleMania. Heyman promised that he would take Punk’s side during the match, but trusting that snake should now be an important tenet in wrestling.
It’s not Seth Rollins that he is angry at. Rollins already hated him, and Punk knew that he would take every opportunity available to beat him. Heyman, meanwhile, said he cared about Punk and made the triple threat match a main event for his ‘best friend’.
Cm Punk got betrayed by Paul Heyman during a very emotional moment
Paul Heyman decided to give Cm Punk a low blow so that Roman Reigns could take him out with a chair shot.

George R.R. Martin has acknowledged that The Winds of Winter, the long-awaited sixth novel in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, remains unfinished after more than a decade. In a recent interview with Time, the author called the project the “curse” of his life and addressed ongoing fan frustration over the delay.
“There’s no doubt Winds of Winter is 13 years late,” Martin said. “I’m still working on it. I have periods where I make progress and then other things divert my attention, and suddenly I have a deadline for one of the HBO shows. I have something else to do.”
Martin’s comments follow a renewed round of online jokes after he posed with real-life direwolves brought back through biotechnology. Posts began circulating suggesting that “we got real dire wolves before Winds of Winter.” When asked about the reaction, Martin expressed fatigue. “That’s the curse of my life,...

As HBO prepares to cast a spell over audiences with its Harry Potter series, discourse about who should play iconic characters in the episodic presentation is alive and well. While some believe the series should remain faithful to the novels, others feel another version of J.K. Rowling’s story needs new magic. While speaking with Variety recently, Jason Isaacs, who plays Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, revealed who he wants to play the malevolent character for the upcoming series. Without hesitation, Isaacs said he wants legendary actress Meryl Streep to try Lucius Malfoy’s cape and cane on for size.

Miss Rafferty has a mother, and it’s … Meryl Streep?!
The three-time Oscar winner made her first-ever appearance on Saturday Night Live during the 50th anniversary special on Sunday night. She popped up as Colleen Rafferty Sr., the mother of Kate McKinnon‘s iconic character who frequently gets abducted by aliens. Pedro Pascal and Woody Harrelson played their co-abductees, while Jon Hamm and Aidy Bryant interviewed them all as Pentagon officials.
“Us Rafferty gals, we always attracted the freaks,” Streep declared during SNL50. “For years I thought Colleen’s father was part alien, but it turns out he was just uncircumcised.”
The 75-year-old actress added, “I still had my pants on when they took me, but much like her, I’ve got an ‘into the woods’ sort of situation going on. My ex used to say that it was like trying to hack his way through the black forest.” That...

The voice of Kevin Kline has been pleasantly popping up from time to time on the animated comedy show Bob's Burgers for nearly 15 years. His distinct (and distinguished) voice is perfect for his rich and elitist landlord character, Mr. Fischoeder, and he always brings a chuckle. But in the live-action scene, Kline has mostly been a dramatic force, especially in the recent series, Disclaimer. Of course, the Oscar winner has given great dramatic performances ever since 1982's Sophie's Choice, but it's always a treat when he busts his comedy chops in live-action. On that note, MGM+ announced today an eight-episode series order for American Classic, a half-hour comedy series starring none other than Kevin Kline.
American Classic comes from co-creators Michael Hoffman and Bob Martin. The series, which will debut with eight episodes, comes from Fifth Season as the studio with Mar-Key Pictures, Likely Story, and Anonymous Content producing. Kevin...

Meryl Streep, we miss you at the Academy Awards.
It’s been seven years since Streep was last nominated for an Oscar for her work in Steven Spielberg’s “The Post” in 2018.
Seven years without Streep is a long time.
Back then, she broke her own record as the most-nominated actress in Oscar history. Her best actress nod for playing Washington Post publisher Katherine Graham landed Streep her 21st Oscar nomination. Katharine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson are tied in second place with a dozen each.
Streep has won Oscars for “Kramer vs. Kramer” in 1979 (supporting actress), “Sophie’s Choice” in 1982 (best actress) and “The Iron Lady” in 2011 (best actress).
The last time she went missing from the Oscars for a long period of time was in the 1990s when she had a gap between her nominations for “Postcards From the Edge” in 1991 to her best actress nod in 1996 for “Bridges of Madison County.

Ask any actor to name a performance that made them want to become an actor, and you'll get people citing the monumental likes of Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire," Meryl Streep in "Sophie's Choice" or Denzel Washington in "Malcolm X" -- big, deep-tissue dives that require thespians to use just about every part of their instrument. They want to leave audiences weeping and cheering as they capture the full range of the human experience. They do not want to play, say, a monotone android whose sole function in the plot is to provide the occasional information dump. This would leave them with nothing of interest to do, and, most likely, little to add to their reel.
So, when Gene Roddenberry began casting the pilot for "Star Trek" in 1964, he probably didn't have actors knocking down his door to play the Vulcan First Officer Spock, whose adherence to logic...

Frozen 2 could have ended up a childhood trauma scar for a generation of kids on the level of Bambi's mom if some key details had stayed in the picture. According to Olaf actor, Josh Gad, his character's death scene in the original script was so brutal, it left kids in the test screenings "fully traumatized." Which is...not exactly what Disney was looking for in the follow-up to the juggernaut first film.
According to Entertainment Weekly, however, that's what they nearly got. In his newly released memoir, In Gad We Trust, the actor explains that in the "truly stunning," "first version [of the death], Olaf himself was scared and confused by what was happening." Their "commitment to the brutality of Olaf's naïveté about all things," he explained, "made our intended audience scared for Olaf, rather than emotional."

Do you want to build a snowman? How about a great relationship with your therapist? In his new memoir In Gad We Trust, Frozen actor Josh Gad says Olaf’s original death scene in Frozen 2 was “brutal.” It was so brutal that the film’s writer, Jennifer Lee, was told to change it lest she make the children cry eternal tears of sadness.
“Jenn and I started recording the dialogue and I couldn’t get through it without sobbing. Those first recordings were brutal, and I remember feeling that we were doing something that was going to pack a serious punch,” Gad says in his new book about breaking down in the studio during production.

Kathy Bates recently told a relatable story to Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family) on his Dinner's On Me podcast (via TheWrap) when both she and fellow Oscar winner Meryl Streep lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar to Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2003: They drowned their sorrows with vodka at the bar.

Considered the pinnacle of acting talent, Meryl Streep has been commanding both the big and small screen for almost 50 years, which has led to an unsurprisingly high net worth in 2024. Streep rose to prominence in the 1970s, taking home her first Oscar for Kramer vs. Kramer early in her career. She has also won Oscars for her work in Sophie's Choice and The Iron Lady, and Streep has been nominated a record 21 times. In addition to her illustrious film career, Streep has seen success on television, winning acclaim for Big Little Lies and Only Murders in the Building.
Streep was born in Summit, New Jersey to parents Mary and Harry, and she has two younger brothers. In her own personal life, Streep was in a relationship with acclaimed actor John Cazale from 1976-1978, until his untimely passing. Actress, comedian, writer, and director Elaine May, 92, does not do interviews; she rarely makes public appearances. So when she agreed to a post-screening Q&a as part of Metrograph‘s American Cinema Editors Presents series, it became a sold-out event that attracted New York’s biggest cinephiles; for them, May is the most elusive member in the pantheon of greatest living filmmakers.
After a screening of “Mikey and Nicky,” the writer-director sat down for a 40-minute conversation with her frequent editorial and production consultant Phillip Schopper and Jeffrey Wolf, who was an assistant editor on the film. Topics included the film’s surprising origins, stars Peter Falk and John Cassavetes, and the bizarre story of the film’s extremely troubled post-production during which the film went “missing” and Paramount sued May.
May has always been upfront about her family’s connection to organized crime; Falk and Cassvetes’ characters were based on people she knew growing up.

Daisy Ridley is trading lightsabers for assault rifles in the upcoming action thriller from the creative mind of Martin Campbell, the director of the acclaimed James Bond film Casino Royale. Ahead of her Star Wars solo film as Rey Skywalker, Ridley is keeping herself busy with several new buzzy roles. Between her chosen profession and her many bad choices in men, she has been conditioned to be life’s doormat. From Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump to Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer, some of the best Oscar-winning actors were given plenty of screen time to shine in their Academy-favorite performances. Its always impressive when an actor wins an Oscar with limited screen time, like Anthony Hopkins for The Silence of the Lambs or Beatrice Straight for just five minutes in Network, but theyre much more likely to catch the Academys attention if theyre on-screen for the overwhelming majority of the movie. The more screen time an actor has, the more opportunities they have to wow Oscar voters.

Although Nicole Kidman recently accepted the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award in recognition of her four-decade acting career, there is no indication that her life’s work is anywhere near finished. Indeed, according to Gold Derby’s racetrack odds, the 56-year-old is well on her way to picking up her sixth Oscar nomination for her lead performance in the critically acclaimed “Babygirl,” which would make her the 13th AFI honoree to subsequently earn film academy recognition in a competitive category.
The fact that Kidman’s life achievement award was presented by her pal and costar, Meryl Streep, is quite fitting given that she’s the only woman to go from being an AFI recipient to an Oscar contender. Since receiving the AFI honor in 2004, she has racked up a whopping eight bids, including a successful one for “The Iron Lady” (2012). A previous champ for “Kramer vs. Kramer” (1980) and...

Many would surely agree with the argument that Meryl Streep is the best actor ever. Having made her stage debut in 1975, the Yale School of Drama alum already had two Oscar nominations to her name by 1980, even winning the Best Supporting Actress award for "Kramer vs. Kramer." You can't get a more auspicious start in Hollywood than that, and to Streep's credit, she managed to maintain her momentum throughout the next decade, receiving a further six Oscar nominations and scoring a Best Actress win for 1982's "Sophie's Choice." That's a remarkable achievement considering the actress had made her feature film debut just five years prior in 1977's "Julia."
Perhaps the only thing more impressive than Streep's almost instantaneous domination of Hollywood is the fact that she has remained just as esteemed as her career played out. Almost 50 years after her film debut, Streep is still one of the most respected actors in the game,...
