Matt Damon has long been recognized as one of Hollywood's most bankable stars. His debut came in Mystic Pizza (1988), but his breakthrough arrived nearly a decade later with Good Will Hunting (1997), co-written with Ben Affleck. The film's success, crowned by an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, launched him into stardom.
Building on this momentum, Damon quickly established himself as a versatile leading man. He delivered a chilling performance in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), embodied action hero Jason Bourne in a franchise that reshaped the genre, and charmed audiences as Linus Caldwell in the Ocean's trilogy, securing his place among Hollywood's most reliable draws.

Christopher Nolan’s movies usually boast a stacked star cast, with even supporting characters being played by A-listers. The upcoming The Odyssey not only has Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, and more in lead roles, but also has Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, John Leguizamo, and more in secondary roles.
The filmmaker has an eye for budding talents as well, as he has chosen actors who would go on to become A-listers for short roles in his movies. Fans of Amazon Prime Video's "Fallout" adaptation have no doubt already devoured the cool new trailer for the show's upcoming sophomore season. The "Fallout" season 2 teaser trailer once again proves that the state of video game adaptations is better than ever, and stars Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, and Aaron Moten appear to be in prime form. Post-apocalypse aficionados get to see a whole host of interesting new visuals and fun little gags, as well as a good look at the season's New Vegas setting. We even catch a glimpse of the game series' most iconic monster, Deathclaw -- not to mention an excellent look at Justin Theroux's Robert House, the enigmatic New Vegas power player and a key instigator of the show's take on the apocalypse.
Here's the twist, however: No matter how much the trailer seems to reveal, it actually gives almost no new information about the show's post-apocalyptic timeline.

How One Cut of the Dead Inspired Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 3’s Crowdfunding Story & Where to Watch It (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 4 is swinging in full flow after an unexpected tonal shift that elevated it from a light harem sitcom into a sophisticated anime about dreams, responsibilities, and filmmaking. The third season framed Kazuya as a producer and Mizuhara as the actress at the center of a crowdfunded project, expanding the anime series beyond dating antics.
Instead of relying only on romantic misunderstandings, the story explored Japan’s independent film culture, from arduous planning to delicate execution. Though Mizuhara’s silver screen debut exists only within fiction, one real Japanese production embodies the same spirit. That film not only redefined genre conventions but also inspired Kazuya’s bold choice in the anime.

Fil Freitas’s at times hilarious black-and-white film follows staff and punters at London’s film landmark through a day on shift
‘More than just a cheap ticket,” it says on the marquee above the Prince Charles in London’s Leicester Square – a cinema beloved for showing cult films, sing-alongs and all-night movie marathons. The Prince Charles is a favourite of Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino, and when news emerged it was threatened with closure earlier this year, more than 165,000 people signed a petition. Now comes a black-and-white movie, a work-based comedy following a fictionalised day in the life of the Prince Charles, shot by Fil Freitas, whose day job is duty manager at the cinema.
On paper, that sounds annoyingly smug and self-conscious. But The Regulars turns out to be sweet and charming, and absolutely hilarious in places, with the easygoing, natural feel of a Richard Linklater film. Freitas...

The world ain't in the best of shape nowadays, so we need all the joy we can get whenever and wherever we can get it. So this next bit is problematic for me.

Predicting Ben Wheatley’s next career move is never a game to bet the house on. Two years after bouncing back from his impersonal, Netflix-glossy “Rebecca” remake with the gnarly indie eco-horror “In the Earth,” the British filmmaker was handed his biggest studio budget and least typical assignment to date with 2023’s sharkbuster sequel “Meg 2: The Trench” — a dud, most agreed. So what now? The most stubbornly anti-commercial film of his career, of course. Shot on a shoestring and seemingly written on the back of envelope that then went several rounds in the shredder, “Bulk” is a stunt that makes even earlier oddball Wheatley works like “A Field in England” look quite conventional by comparison — but there’s more energy and wit in this hybrid of conspiracy thriller, time-bending sci-fi and goofy genre parody than we’ve seen from the director in a while.

An official reveal trailer for the anticipated title was showcased, offering a first look at gameplay footage. The best part? It takes heavy inspiration from the Batman: Arkham series and its iconic free-flow combat.

Riddle us this: How does a Batman TV series Batarang its way into the Emmy race? By leaving any hint of Batman out of the show almost entirely… save for the final shot. That’s how HBO Max’s The Penguin — starring Colin Farrell as Gotham City’s fowl-ly named crime kingpin — approached the big, bad Bat, and it resulted in a critically acclaimed eight-episode crime drama that made off with 24 nominations, the second most-nominated series behind Apple TV+’s Severance.
This isn’t the first Dark Knight-adjacent tale to find awards success by ignoring the Dark Knight. You might say that Todd Phillips’ Joker walked so that The Penguin could waddle. That 2019 box office smash scored 11 Oscar nominations — the most for any single comic book-derived feature to date — including Best Picture and Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix, who won his first statuette for playing the Clown Prince of Crime after three previous nominations.

Amy Irving knows how to give a great gift.
The "Carrie" and "Yentl" actress and singer, who was married to director Steven Spielberg from 1985-1989, called in a few favors when Spielberg's 40th birthday rolled around in late 1986 and commissioned a short documentary to be made for him, which turned out to be a cross between a parody of Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane" and a "This is Your Life"-style walk down memory lane. Dan Aykroyd and John Candy effectively recreate the opening of "Citizen Kane," with Aykroyd narrating a newsreel about Spielberg's 40th birthday before he takes the role of a fast-talking editor, barking orders to Candy, who's playing a reporter trying to get to the bottom of who the real Spielberg is and why he makes the decisions he does.

It isn’t easy to think of anyone other than Johnny Depp playing the iconic Tim Burton character Edward Scissorhands. Burton’s delightfully derranged recluse with bladed digits and a knack for trimming topiaries is an integral part of cinema for people within my age range (I’m 44), but did you know that Gary Oldman almost played the raven-haired Lothario? While speaking about his overarching career with The Hollywood Reporter, THR’s Scott Rozborogh asked Oldman about the time he nearly joined the cast of Burton’s 1990 dark fantasy fairytale.
“It would have been in the late ’80s,” Oldman said about when the Scissorhands role was on the table. “I was on Tim Burton’s list for the role of Edward Scissorhands. It was a small list. My agent thought I had a really good chance of getting it. They said to me, “Read the script.” They sent the script over,...

Gary Oldman on Almost Playing Edward Scissorhands, Bonding With Bowie and His “Diabolical Good Luck”
Gary Oldman is in a good place.
For an actor whose early career was defined by volatility — on- and offscreen — that’s no small feat. Born in 1958 in working-class New Cross, South London, Oldman came up through British theater before breaking out in the 1980s with fearless portrayals of damaged men: punk icon Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy (1986) and murdered playwright Joe Orton in Prick Up Your Ears (1987).
By the mid-’90s, his talent for feral, unhinged roles — in Léon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, True Romance — had made him Hollywood’s go-to psycho. On Air Force One, Harrison Ford dubbed him “Scary Gary.”
But typecasting persisted. “I put myself out of work,” Oldman says of his decision to break free from his “rent-a-villain” persona.
The gamble worked. A late-career reinvention brought gravitas and restraint: Sirius Black in Harry Potter, police commissioner Jim Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

If you asked someone to guess what director Christopher Nolan's favorite movie is, most people would assume it was something serious, maybe a film that plays around with time in some unique, thought-provoking way. And sure enough, when Nolan was asked about his favorite movies in a 2023 interview, he did mention the renowned works of director Stanley Kubrick. "2001: A Space Odyssey" in particular made the top of his list, a fact that should come as no surprise to any "Interstellar" fans out there.
But Nolan's more questionable shoutout was to the 2006 movie "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby." It's a movie about a racecar driver played by Will Ferrell who learns to be a tiny bit less of a selfish egomaniac. It's a far sillier story than anything Nolan himself would ever want to direct, but whenever Nolan catches it on TV, he knows he'll have to...

The first time Ryan Reynolds appeared as Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, was in 2009 in the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which featured Hugh Jackman. Hence, the anticipation for the third film, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ is through the roof.
For years, it was unknown whether Deadpool would return to the screen. However, in 2014, Ryan Reynolds leaked footage, followed by his personal contribution to the scripting and vision for the character, making sure we were entertained by those movies. Did Chris Pratt call Anna Faris before proposing to Katherine Schwarzenegger? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Hold up—Chris Pratt called someone. But, whom did he call before proposing to Katherine Schwarzenegger? Yep, the Guardians of the Galaxy star rang up his ex-wife, Anna Faris, to give her the lowdown before popping the question. Classy move, right?
Anna spilled the tea on the Divorce Sucks! Podcast, saying Chris didn’t want her to be blindsided. “He called me and said, ‘So, I’m going to ask Katherine to marry me. Just wanted to give you a heads-up,’” she shared. Her response? Pure Anna. “That’s awesome!”
And this wasn’t some awkward, obligatory call. These two have nailed the whole “friendly ex” vibe. Anna explained how they’ve always prioritized their son, Jack, and worked hard to keep things smooth. “Grudge-holding? Not our thing,” she said. They’ve even discussed sharing holidays...

Jurassic World Rebirth North America Box Office Day 44: Set To Beat Oppenheimer( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Jurassic World Rebirth recently opened in theaters in Japan and is available online. It still has a firm hold at the cinemas, including in North America. The sci-fi flick is on track to beat the domestic haul of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer at the domestic box office. Keep scrolling for the deets.
Besides Oppenheimer, the sci-fi flick is set to beat a DC blockbuster at the North American box office, thereby entering the all-time highest-grossing films list in North America. However, the gap between it and Superman increases daily, and it is unlikely that Rebirth will be able to catch up to it domestically. However, the film is way ahead of the DC movie worldwide with its $800 million-plus global collection.

Matt Damon isn't just a guy seemingly permanently attached to Ben Affleck. He's — with his long-time best bud — an Academy Award-winning screenwriter for "Good Will Hunting," with a Best Actor nomination for his performance as the down-on-his-luck math scholar. He's an activist and philanthropist. He's even got a good sense of humor, turning up in bizarre cameos in flicks like "Deadpool" and "Eurotrip," the latter letting him loose as a punk rocker with one good tune in one of the best running gags in comedy.
A steady worker since the '90s, Damon remains one of Hollywood's best and most bankable. At the time of writing, we're less than a year away from watching his turn as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," a film so anticipated that theaters are already selling seats. But not everything about Matt Damon is perfect.

Ahead of David Fincher and Brad Pitt‘s upcoming spin-off, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, Quentin Tarantino declared his support for the Fight Club director. In a lengthy 2-hour interview on The Church of Tarantino podcast, Qt revealed:
I think me and David Fincher are the 2 best directors. So the idea that he actually wants to adapt my work shows a level of seriousness towards my work.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth is set to be based on Brad Pitt’s Oscar-winning role in the 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Before this, there had never been a filmmaker or scriptwriter who boldly pursued a spin-off from Tarantino’s source material. As such, the news comes as a pleasant shock to both Fincher and Tarantino fanatics.

Werner Herzog opted to watch Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight upon its release only because of Christian Bale’s involvement. Having gone through hell together for the dramatization of Dieter Dengler’s story in Rescue Dawn, which almost killed Bale in the process, leading to a brief fallout, the director developed a huge admiration for Bale as an actor and wanted to see how he was doing with Tdk (via Far Out Magazine).
I went to see the film, and ran into Christian Bale, which was the only reason I saw the film: I wanted to see how Christian was doing, because I so love that man, as an actor.
While one would assume a mainstream comic book movie (Cbm) hit wouldn’t traditionally mesh well with an auteur of Herzog’s stature, not only did he like the movie, but he also deemed it the most significant movie of that year.

Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and two major stars join Amazon's new comedy, Close Personal Friends. The actress burst onto the scene in 2015 with Room, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, though she is best known for playing Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in Captain Marvel and reprising the role for Avengers: Endgame and The Marvels.

Ranking the Best Batman Movies Based on Their IMDb Ratings(Photo Credit –IMDb)
Before Martin Scorsese commented about superhero movies, the world had been divided about them ‘not being real cinema.’ A lot of people agreed with his statements, and a lot actively worked against them to prove him wrong. Regardless of what he said or what the world thought (or still feels) about superhero movies, no one can deny their influence on the film industry. And Gotham’s most considerable, darkest Vigilante is here to defend that status with his life.
Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight Trilogy” was ironically a cinematic masterpiece. It was the most significant turning point for superhero movies and a piece that redefined cinema forever. It garnered respect for a genre that was once not considered worthy of being called true cinema. One would expect nothing less from a series surrounding the Caped Crusader’s crusades.

Christopher Nolan and Christopher Frayling are listed as having made a four-part series about British cinema for BBC Radio 4, due out this month.
I’ve zipped back through the archives and can’t find any mention that this was happening, but Sir Christopher Nolan and historian Sir Christopher Frayling – will drop the Sirs going forward – have come together for a new programme on Radio 4.
Nolan is currently in post-production on The Odyssey. Meanwhile, Frayling’s latest book on Sergio Leone, titled Sergio Leone By Himself, is quite brilliant.
The pair seem to have made a series of four programmes entitled Hollywood And The Adland Five.
We’ve not had any kind of announcement, but a listing has appeared on the BBC website about the series, which is illustrated with a picture of Tony Scott directing Tom Cruise on the set of Top Gun.

Cillian Murphy, whose performance in Oppenheimer earned him an Academy Award, is already sparking Oscar buzz again with his new movie, Steve. While Murphy’s portrayal of the physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer led to widespread acclaim, his characterization of a headteacher in Steve could earn him another nomination.
Netflix released the trailer on X, and fans are betting that Murphy’s new morally complex role might earn him another Oscar. One X comment read, “Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy has a nice ring to it,” and another X user wrote, “It’s clear Netflix is gearing up for Oscars, and I think this is gonna be the one they submit.” Murphy plays the title role of Steve, a headteacher at a troubled reform school in the 1990s, fighting to save his institution while struggling with his own mental health.

Highest 2 Lowest Review: Spike Lee & Denzel Washington Reunite For A Bumpy, Exciting Kurosawa Remake
One of the joys of movies is watching Denzel Washington act. While the concept of the movie star has changed drastically over the years, Washington remains one of the best of the best — a powerhouse performer with a screen presence that pulls us like a magnet. Washington has had many wonderful collaborators over the years, but arguably the best of his partnerships has been with Spike Lee. Lee, one of the best to ever do it, has helmed Washington in several memorable roles, and the last time they worked together was in 2006's crackerjack bank robbery flick "Inside Man" (the biggest box office hit of Lee's career).
Now, almost 20 years later, Washington and Lee are together again with "Highest 2 Lowest," a remake of Akira Kurosawa's masterful "High and Low" (itself inspired by the Ed McBain book "King's Ransom"). Washington and Lee reuniting is probably worth the price of admission alone,...

Since reaching the peak of acting Everest with his Academy Award winning performance in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, it's been fascinating to see what Cillian Murphy has done next. First up, there was Small Things Like These, a low-budget, independent Irish movie about the horrors of the Magdalene laundries in which. And now, before returning to the roles of Tommy Shelby in Steven Knight's upcoming Peaky Blinders movie and Jim in 28 Years Later sequel The Bone Temple, Murphy has immersed himself in another intense, small-scale character study: Steve. The Netflix bound movie, based on author Max Porter's Shy, is a mid-90s set drama in which Murphy plays — you guessed it! — Steve, headteacher of a struggling reformatory. Set over the course of a pivotal day for the school, Steve looks incredibly intense — and you can check out the trailer below;
Phew! That was intense. Suffice it to say, we...

Not every actor can afford to be picky about the roles they end up taking. It's a brutal industry to be selective in. But if you see an upcoming film that stars an actor like Leonardo DiCaprio, that means he truly believes in the project. The teen heartthrob turned Academy Award-winning actor boasts quite the filmography having worked with such celebrated filmmakers as James Cameron ("Titanic"), Christopher Nolan ("Inception"), Steven Spielberg ("Catch Me If You Can"), and Sam Raimi ("The Quick and the Dead"). Working with any one of those names would give you some boost of credibility, but the fact that he's also fostered a working relationship with the legendary Martin Scorsese across six (soon to be seven with "Devil in the White City") films in two decades is a real feather in his cap. And now DiCaprio's next big role comes to us courtesy of one of our...
