middling indie
Chris Remi (Derick Martini) and aspiring actor Tony Remi (Steven Martini) are brothers living together in L. A. Their parents are long pass. They were given nicknames by their grandmother. Chris is Smiling Fish. Tony is Goat on Fire. The names fit. Chris' girlfriend Alison (Amy Hathaway) tells him that he can't handle her news. He befriends Clive Winter (Bill Henderson). Tony encounters letter-carrier Kathy (Christa Miller).
This is written and staring the Martini brothers. Kevin Jordan directs and also writes. I did not like this when I first saw this back in early 2000's. The filmmaking is indie with limited style. The writing is also indie and needs a lot of sharpening. The brothers are not shooting star actors. It's over twenty years later and I'm watching it again. The brothers and the director have not shot into stardom, but everybody keeps trying. I don't think that I was wrong in dismissing this as lighter weight indie, but I was way too harsh. It is a middling indie with nothing particularly exceptional. I do like the sweet ending. Maybe this should concentrate more on Chris and Clive. Being in the middle deserves a middling score.
