Loni Anderson, whose beloved role as Jennifer Marlowe on “Wkrp in Cincinnati” was nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards, has died, her publicist confirmed Sunday. She was 79.
Anderson played the “sexy-yet-smartest-person-in-the-room receptionist” on the hit TV series about a mixed-format radio station from 1978 to 1982. She died Sunday in Los Angeles following an acute prolonged illness, surrounded by family, longtime publicist Cheryl Kagan told TheWrap.
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,” the family said in a statement.
Anderson starred in six TV series, seven feature films, 19 TV movies and two min-series over the years. After her diagnosis, she continued working co-starring in Lifetime’s “Ladies Of The 80’s: A Divas Christmas” with Linda Gray, Donna Mills, Morgan Fairchild and Nicollette Sheridan. The TV movie aired in late December 2023.

While it’s nearly as frustrating to review a half-season of mediocre television as it is to see it solely as a fan — especially if you were anticipating its return for the better part of three years — “Wednesday” Season 2, Part 1, at least makes it easy to investigate the lingering questions in its mundane murder-mystery without verging into spoilers.
Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar continue to map a conventional teen drama onto the ostensibly unconventional Addams Family I.P. Their star, Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), may be allergic to colors and obsessed with the macabre, but she’s handled like any other identifiable introvert who doubles as a reluctant hero. Behind her dark wardrobe and dour demeanor lies benevolence and bravery. She solves mysteries! She makes friends! She cares, despite insisting she doesn’t!
Good for you, kiddo. Keep wearing that goth getup as long as you want.

“Here We Woe Again” is an apt title for the Season 2, Part 1, opener of Netflix’s mega-hit “Wednesday.” Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar with Tim Burton in the director’s chair, the series follows Wednesday Addams (a perfectly cast Jenna Ortega) — a macabre, black cloaked teen with psychic abilities. Having spent her summer break honing her prophetic visions and indulging in a game of chicken with a serial killer, Wednesday returns to Nevermore Academy for the fall term. Yet, things aren’t as they once were. A shocking mystery quickly begins to occupy Wednesday’s time, leading her...

Holland’s performance was a bait and switch for the audience, starting as a performance of “Singin’ in the Rain” before quickly switching to “Umbrella.” During the transition, Holland trades his suit for a dress, fishnets and a wig. He appeared on the episode with his fiancée Zendaya.

ESPN and the NFL are helping to rewrite the playbook for keeping sports-media sustainable.
In an unorthodox maneuver, the league will take a minority stake in the giant Disney sports outlet, which will gain control over NFL Network and the NFL RedZone highlights service, in addition to three pro-football games that were being shown via the NFL’s own cable assets. The tie-up is likely to boost the appeal of a new direct-to-consumer streaming service ESPN plans to unveil in the weeks leading up to the next NFL season — a service that would be turbo-charged over time if it included RedZone and more football.

[Editor’s note: This interview contains minor spoilers for Season 14 of “King of the Hill.”]
For almost 15 years, “King of the Hill” was one of the most reliably funny and consistently comforting shows on network television. Mike Judge and Greg Daniels’ animated sitcom managed a tricky balancing act: Its protagonist, the old-fashioned traditionalist Republican Hank Hill (Mike Judge), maintained politics out of date with a changing culture, and with views often more conservative than many of the writers on the show’s staff.
But the series also admired Hank’s positive attributes — his work ethic, his fundamental decency — never reducing him to a one-note stereotype. In many ways, the show had its cake and ate it, too. It was a lightly satirical portrait of conservative America that conservative viewers themselves could enjoy, a series that treated its characters — from the strait-laced Hank to the conspiracy-theory-spouting Dale Gribble (Johnny Hardwick) — as both objects of laughter and endearingly lovable despite their flaws.

Wednesday Addams, popular? After saving Nevermore Academy in the first season of Netflix’s Addams Family-based hit, Wednesday, Jenna Ortega‘s prickly title character finds herself in a most unusual predicament: Upon returning to the supernatural boarding school — her first time voluntarily doing so without being expelled or otherwise unwelcome — Wednesday finds herself the star savior of Nevermore. She even has a fan club…and she can’t seem to shake them. After all, she defeated resurrected pilgrim Joseph Crackstone (William Houston), who was brought back to life by his ancestor Laurel Gates (Christina Ricci), and managed to get her love interest, the not-so-normie Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), who was actually a dangerous shape-shifting Hyde, apprehended and sent to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. So, it’s not totally surprising that in the sophomore season of the breakout hit, the staff and students of Nevermore have officially turned their heads to look at Wednesday.

Ben Stiller is in awe of how fast “The Bear” is shot. The “Severance” director and executive producer pointed to how “The Bear” has churned out four seasons across three years; “Severance” meanwhile took that same amount of time to make just a second season. Production on “Severance” Season 2 began way back in 2022, the same year that “The Bear” debuted.
Stiller cited how he would prefer to work as “The Bear” co-showrunner Christopher Storer does, or at least with the same speed. “Chris Storer will shoot an episode in an hour and a half or something on ‘The Bear.’ I’m like, ‘Goddamn, why can’t I do that?'” Stiller told Vanity Fair.
As for the years between Seasons 1 and 2, Stiller added, “On a certain level, it’s just the affirmation of when you follow your instinct — knowing that you have to make sure something feels right, and that...

Ryan Murphy‘s American Love Story has taken over New York City. The ensemble cast has been spotted filming all over the Big Apple, including Naomi Watts. Watts, who is playing former First Lady Jackie Kennedy, was filming American Love Story scenes in Central Park on August 4 with costars Paul Kelly and Grace Gummer, who are playing her onscreen kids, John F. Kennedy Jr. and Caroline Kennedy. The actress looked nearly unrecognizable as she stepped into Jackie’s shoes, with her brown wig, large sunglasses, and a scarf tied around her head. Watts and Kelly took a walk through the park together as Jackie and John Jr. Kelly looked every bit the businessman in a white shirt, beige tie, and gray slacks. In a separate scene featuring Jackie and Caroline, Watts was carted away on a stretcher outside of an apartment building. She was getting loaded in the back of an ambulance.

Never underestimate the power of the Jeopardy! fandom. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? had its best ratings in five years after Ken Jennings and Matt Damon won $1 million for charity on the latest episode. Millionaire, which is hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, was the top program of the night for the second week in a row, according to a press release. ABC can thank Ken Jennings for that. He appeared on both episodes with Damon, winning the $1 million prize for Water.org. Their game went so long that it stretched into two episodes. Episode two rose week-to-week in total viewers from 4.24 million to 4.46 million viewers. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? also held 100 percent retention in adults ages 18 to 49. A factor that made Millionaire tower over the number two broadcast program, Big Brother, on Wednesday was most likely Kimmel and Damon’s ongoing “feud.” Also, Damon and Jennings’ quest for the $1 million,...

Jefferson White returned to Yellowstone in the final season (Season 5 Part 2) in fall 2024, bringing with him renewed questions about what’s going on with the reported Yellowstone spinoff, 6666 (pronounced four sixes). Based on the ranch that White’s Yellowstone character, Jimmy Hurdstrom, moved to in Yellowstone Season 4, 6666 is said to be on the horizon for Taylor Sheridan‘s TV universe. It’s been a long time since there have been any meaningful updates about the series since it was announced by Paramount in February 2021. Two prequels and three present-day spinoffs have been released and announced in the time since — 1883, 1923, Y: Marshals, the Beth and Rip series, and The Madison — and there’s reportedly another prequel, 1944, in the works. So, what’s up with 6666? Here’s everything we could find about the show’s movements. Is the 6666 spinoff still happening? As of the time of publication, there...

The image of a crying millennial standing in awe in front of Cinderella Castle in Walt Disney World Resort has widely become the visual definition of a “Disney Adult”: the obsessive fan whose self-proclaimed love for all things Mouse House makes them a reoccurring easy target for ridicule on social media.
But in her new book that explores the modern-day Disney fan phenomenon, author Aj Wolfe says one of her key findings was that the fandom is more often the ones mocking each other. “One thing that I learned really early on that was shocking to me is that Disney Adults hate Disney Adults,...

More than 2,300 members of the Writers Guild of America have signed an open letter decrying recent actions taken by President Trump and his administration that they say represent “an unprecedented, authoritarian assault.”
The WGA East and WGA West union members signing the letter include Spike Lee, Adam McKay, Ilana Glazer, Mike Schur, Liz Merriwether and Tony Gilroy.
The letter cites Trump’s “baseless lawsuits” against news organizations that have “published stories he does not like and leveraged them into payoffs”; for example, it points to Paramount Global’s agreement last month to pay Trump $16 million to settle “a meritless lawsuit...

And now, social media posts from August 4 confirm that Kyri will be appear in Season 14 as Ritter. “Back! For a limited time only,” he wrote on an Instagram story of himself, Hanako Greensmith (Violet), and Jocelyn Hudon (Novak) on the set of Firehouse 51. He also reposted Hudon’s Instagram story of himself, David Eigenberg (Herrmann), Christian Stolte (Mouch), Miranda Rae Mayo (Kidd), and Brandon Larracuente (a new series regular) during what looks like a call. Dust off your Victrolas. Wednesday Season 2 is upon us, and it’s a safe bet that the many needle-drops from the first four episodes have already wormed their way into your ear canals. While our brooding titular hero (Jenna Ortega) may prefer moodier classical tunes — and there are plenty of those on the list — music supervisors Jen Malone and Nicole Weisberg have put together a sweeping soundtrack that captures the multitudinous tastes and energies of the Nevermore outcasts and extended Addams family. “We took the energy of what we did for Season 1 and opened another door,” Weisberg says. “So now Season 2 feels more expansive musically.”
Season 2 doubles up on everything: more character development, higher stakes — and, yes, a deeper, darker, and more surprising soundtrack. From cello solos that showcase Wednesday’s virtuosity with the bow, to ’90s throwbacks, K-pop bops, and goth anthems with a...

Week four of Big Brother got off to an exciting start. A new Head of Household was crowned and then dethroned all within 24 hours. Fans saw a bit of a shake-up on the block compared to the past three weeks. After Adrian Rocha said goodbye in an eight-to-four vote on Thursday, it was time for a new Hoh to be crowned. As outgoing Hoh, Lauren Domingue was not eligible to compete. For this competition, houseguests had to team up in three teams of four, leaving one contestant, Kelley Jorgensen, out. They had to walk on thin balance beams and hit a button on four boxes in the fastest time without falling off to proceed to the next round. The winner of the round was allowed to eliminate two people from another team. Jorgensen was then allowed to play in the next round as the teams were reduced to three people each.

Emmy Award nominee Ramy Youssef is bringing even more of his genius to Netflix.
The writer, director, comedian, and actor is entering into a creative partnership with Netflix in which he will develop and create serialized first look projects through his production company Cairo Cowboy.
This new deal deepens the Golden Globe winner’s relationship with Netflix, which began with the Peabody- and Gotham Award–winning comedy Mo. Youssef co-created the series about a Palestinian refugee’s life in Houston, with its star, Mo Amer, and serves as an executive producer. We’re now just over two months out from the return of Grey’s Anatomy for Season 22, and there are still many, many questions about what’s coming next on the landmark medical-slash-disaster drama. Chief among them? Who, if anyone, was hurt or killed in that surgical wing explosion in the Season 21 finale? There were several characters shown to be directly in harm’s way at the time of the blast… and others whose exact location was unclear. One character whose fate seemed to be sealed was that of Piper Perabo‘s Jenna Gatlin, the desperate mother who held up an entire operating room with a gas tank and a flint striker to force Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) to perform a risky surgery on her daughter. After the operation proved to be successful, Jenna revealed she was bluffing, and the tank was empty. She was still arrested on the spot and carted away from the scene.

John Oliver and Jay Leno have differing opinions when it comes to political comedy on late-night TV. In a recent interview with David Trulio, president and CEO of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, Leno criticized late-night hosts for alienating “half the audience” with their personal political opinions. “It’s funny when … you make fun of their side and they laugh at it. I don’t think anybody wants to hear a lecture,” he said, adding, “I don’t understand why you would alienate one particular group … just do what’s funny.” Oliver, however, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Tuesday, August 5, that he will “take a hard pass on taking comedic advice from Jay Leno.” When asked if late-night shows should appeal more to both sides of the political spectrum, Oliver stated, “Who thinks that way? Executives? Comedy can’t be for everyone. It’s inherently subjective.
