Shekhar Kapur’s cross-cultural romantic comedy What’s Love Got To Do With It? sets a record for widest Studiocanal UK-Ireland opening this weekend, starting its run in 630 locations.

The film, which debuted at Toronto Film Festival in Septemer last year, tops the 607-site opening of Paddington 2 from November 2017.

Set in London, What’s Love Got To Do With It? follows Kazim, a young Pakistani-British man who is having an arranged marriage to a bride from Pakistan; and his childhood friend Zoe, a filmmaker documenting the process.

Ben Stiller is set to direct “Bag Man,” a big-screen adaptation of Rachel Maddow’s hit podcast. The film is being developed at Focus Features.

In addition to directing duties, Stiller is also co-writing the script with Adam Perlman and Mike Yarvitz. The latter executive produced the podcast, which debuted in 2018, and later penned the book with Maddow.

The cast has not been announced.

Ben Stiller is set to direct “Bag Man,” based on a podcast by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, that Focus Features is developing as a feature film.

“Bag Man” is the true story of one of the most brazen political bribery scandals in American history involving Richard Nixon’s vice president Spiro Agnew during the height of the Watergate scandal.

The podcast and an additional book also called “Bag Man” written by Maddow and Michael Yarvitz posits whether it was possible for an American vice president to carry out a criminal enterprise inside the White House and have nobody remember or notice.

Adam Perlman wrote the script along with Ben Stiller and Yarvitz, who executive produced the podcast and co-wrote the subsequent book with Maddow. No casting has been announced.

Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller have been in each other’s orbit for three decades without working together in any sort of meaningful capacity, which seems strange given their very similar career paths. Archery Pictures, the U.K. outfit behind the Julia Stiles-fronted Sky Atlantic series “Riviera,” has teamed with Danny Perkins’ Elysian Film Group Distribution to form comedy label Mews Films.

Mews, a production label housed within Archery Pictures, will focus on developing a slate of comedy movies for the domestic U.K. theatrical market.

Kurban Kassam (pictured) joins as managing director of the new venture reporting into Archery Pictures CEO Kris Thykier, Perkins, chief operating officer Alex Marshall and creative director Judy Counihan. Development will be overseen by Archery Pictures, with Jon Champion acting as development co-ordinator in conjunction with Jed Benedict, Elysian’s head of development and acquisition.

Kassam’s producing credits include “The Party,” and he has also worked with a number of emerging directors through the Film London Microwave Scheme and iFeatures, producing “The Hungry”, which premiered at Toronto in 2017 and sold to Amazon Studios.

Oscar Isaac is in talks to play Marc Spector, the lead superhero on upcoming Disney Plus show “Moon Knight,” according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

Moon Knight is a fascinating character, because while on the surface he comes off like Marvel’s attempt to rip off Batman, his powers are actually magical, weird mystical abilities tied either to an ancient Egyptian god and the moon — or to his fractured psyche. More on that in a moment.

Created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin in 1975, Moon Knight debuted in Marvel’s “Werewolf by Night,” where he’s introduced hunting the title character before teaming up with him instead (the two have generally been allies ever since). With the state of things these days, Fantastic Fest has gone virtual for 2020, and here are my thoughts on two of the films that helped kick off the festivities this week: Teddy, from the directing duo of Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma, and Girl, which features both Bella Thorne and Mickey Rourke.

Teddy: As someone who has a deep love for anything lycanthrope-related, I really enjoyed what Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma were able to do with Teddy. The film hits all the beats you’d expect from a coming-of-age werewolf story, but the directors come at these tropes in a very unique way, making Teddy a thoughtful and heartfelt examination of a young man who has lost his place in this world that also delivers up some gnarly body horror moments and a sizeable body count to boot.

The film follows the titular character (played by Anthony Bajon) who lives in a remote village in France.

HBO has given a green light to Scenes From a Marriage, a limited series adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s classic miniseries, starring and executive produced by Michelle Williams and Oscar Isaac. It comes from Our Boys and The Affair co-creator Hagai Levi, Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res and Endeavor Content.

Written and directed by Levi, the series adaptation re-examines the show’s iconic depiction of love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple, played by Isaac and Williams.

Following up one of his career peaks with his haunting, soul-searching existential drama First Reformed, Paul Schrader is back. His next film, The Card Counter, stars Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, and features a reteam with Willem Dafoe.

Stiller will be directing Isaac in a new thriller titled London, which will be adapted from "a short story by The Snowman author Jo Nesbo" and will be "written for the screen by Eric Roth, who won an Oscar for Forrest Gump and was last nominated for A Star Is Born."

De Niro, Isaac, Sutherland and Hathaway all join Cate Blanchett in the cast of the film which is set in the ’80s.

A dock area on the Thames is ‘the pool,’ and the sailors that disembark from the cargo ships are susceptible to the temptations of black market trade. Our first look at Back to the Future: The Musical, a stage show adaptation of the iconic time travel movie from 1985, has been revealed. Recently beginning its previews at the Manchester Opera House in England, the musical will be presenting shows for a 12-week season at the venue until concluding its run on 17 May. On the official Twitter account for London Theatre Reviews, several new sneak peek photos of Back to the Future: The Musical have just been posted, and they give us a good look at what the musical will be like. Migos, Travis Scott and Young Thug have teamed up to release “Give No Fxk.” The rappers originally debuted the song live during Scott’s Astroworld Festival in 2019.

Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and writer-director Lana Wachowski have officially returned to “The Matrix,” 17 years after saying goodbye to the franchise in the polarizing last entry of the original trilogy “The Matrix Revolutions.” The San Francisco Examiner spotted the Warner Bros. production kicking off filming in the Chinatown section of the Bay Area with stars Reeves and Moss. The actors are returning to their iconic roles of Neo and Trinity, but “Matrix” fans would hardly know that from the first batch of set photos and video from the Examiner. Reeves’ Neo is not looking anything like the cyber-warrior fans adore (the character’s trademark black sunglasses and clothing are missing). Instead, Neo just looks like Reeves stepped out to grab a coffee. Most “Matrix” fans probably wouldn’t expect to see Neo sporting a beanie and blue jeans. What does that mean for “Matrix 4”? Altitude to distribute documentary in the UK and Ireland.

Julien Temple is to direct a documentary about Irish musician Shane MacGowan, produced by Johnny Depp, which the UK’s HanWay Films has acquired to sell worldwide.

Shane will feature animation, unseen footage from Temple’s own archives and contributions from collaborators, artists and MacGowan’s family to tell the story of his life. The film will culminate with his 60th birthday celebration, populated by musicians and film stars.

British comedy horror has taken many forms. From the Abominable Dr. Phibes to Shaun of the Dead to The Cottage. All very different but all equally funny and A Serial Killer’s Guide To Life is another unique horror comedy that feels at home with a lot of recent films and shows from the U.K.

Lou’s life is going nowhere. Working a minimum wage nothing job and living at home with her mum who she also (kind of) looks after. Looking for some direction in her life she searches for a life coach and happens upon Val. A life coach who is looking to take someone on a self help road trip across England and Lou is desperate enough to hop along for the ride.

Dutch filmmaker Rene van Pannevis is at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival with the world premiere of his debut feature Looted.

From zombie comic books to a little TV adaptation called The Walking Dead (you may have heard of it), the name Robert Kirkman has become sort of synonymous with horror over the last few years. Now, it appears he’s moving on from his take on the shambling corpse and onto his own interpretation of werewolves: An American Werewolf In London, to be precise.

A recent report from Variety says Kirkman is being eyed up to produce a reboot of the classic werewolf horror flick, as well as being hired as a producer for an up-and-coming Dracula-inspired monster movie, which was pitched by Kirkman. According to the outlet:

Best known as the creator of “The Walking Dead” comics, Kirkman has been sought out on the producing front for more horror IP that includes a reboot for “An American Werewolf in London.”

Jessica Biel has signed on to co-star in Lee Tamahori's sci-fi thriller Next for Revolution Studios. Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore are toplining the film, which is based on Philip K. Dick's short story The Golden Man. Penned by Gary Goldman, the story centers on a man (Cage) with the unique ability to see future events and affect their outcome. Pursued by the FBI, which is seeking to use his abilities to prevent a global terrorist attack, he ultimately is faced with the choice of saving himself or the world. Biel will play Liz, the love interest of Cage's character, whom he must attempt to save from terrorists. Cage, Todd Garner, Norm Golightly, Graham King and Arne Schmidt are producing. Derek Dauchy is overseeing for Revolution, which has set a late March start date for the film. Biel, whose credits include London, Blade: Trinity and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, next appears in Neil Burger's The Illusionist. She is repped by CAA, Management 360 and attorney Karl Austen.
