Bata Boy and Crocs Girl

I watched a promo of the lead talking about anime and manga in the film and I thought, sign me up! Didn't know anything else about it. Turns out, this 40 min shortfilm on Youtube about (GenZ's) hopes and dreams of romances in new cities is so much better than most of the films that came out last year.

While the plot is about GenZ, I'm sure you can either relate to some of this or might have seen your friend be in these situations and come talk to you about it. So, a familiar plot, nothing new and yet, feels....fresh compared to the bad content that's recently come out.

Nirmal Pillai acts, wrote and directed the film. It's been shot really well, Nirmal and Kripali seem familiar, like your school/college friends. There's no point to this film, except that it's a slice of life worth your 40 mins.

I love Nirmal, Abhishek, and all their videos but this was not that good. I felt like most of the dialogue was unnatural and embarrassing. Knowing how good Nirmal is at video and stand up, I definitely expected much much better from him. The cinematography was good, but I don't think it is enough to make the whole thing good.

The movie felt like it was rushing their relationship and I could not properly connect with any of the characters.

The acting was definitely not the greatest either. It's giving nepo babies launch (yikes). The dialogues were delivered poorly and seemed so dry, removing any mood or effect it was supposed to create.

The plot and idea is definitely unique, and has loads of potential which has not been used very well. Since it is Nirmal's first film, I cannot wait to see his new projects and his progress!
