Sheriff Country

Is this a top notch, edge of your seat, gnarly and intriguing cop show? Not at all. Is it quietly enjoyable? Absolutely! The first episode or two is certainly generic, loose and bit stilted, but after episode 3, the characters started to mesh, so the potential vibe of the show begins to shine through. If seen as more of a "small town family drama", centred around the sheriff, family, and colleagues, then it has a niche we viewers still need. That being shows with likeable main characters and the chance to add in some depth, growth and grit as time goes by. Not all shows need to be riveting or gut churning. A low key build is nice too.

I have watched the first four episodes of Sheriff Country, and really wanted to like the show. I like the photography; some characters are interesting and attractive, it seemed there were too many soap bubbles in the plots.

As a police procedural, the show gets both the police and procedure wrong. I rated it a 6, but think that it is working hard to get to 5. Baccarinn is attractive, but her acting is almost as wooden as her walk. The actions taken by characters would get most of them fired, and probably jailed.

The small-town premise, attractive cast, and some occasional good acting show potential that regularly is overwhelmed by unrealistic, cliché story lines.

The cast is capable and interesting. It seems like Sheriff Country's Edgewater is a little bigger community than Fire Country's Edgewater. If it weren't for Bode doing a cameo where he gives his cousin money to pay back their grandpa after stealing from him, you wouldn't even know it's the same TV universe. Morena Baccarin is always excellent and the production is quality. It does feel like a Degrassi mashup with a cop show, but that's not a bad thing. If you're tired of gore, classic rock hooks, floating graphics, and crime lab microscope camera angles, Sheriff Country could be for you. If you miss all that stuff, Matt Lauria also does an excellent job.

This isn't a cop show. It's a cringy drama where the some of the actors are playing cops in a badly written soap opera. The storyline was shallow and predictable. The law enforcement tactics that were portrayed were horrendous. I had hopes of this being good but it was a disappointment. Just not believable and not engaging.

Good cast, and a great mixture of procedural police drama and family dynamics. Always like Matt Lauria and his work. Lots of tension with characters introduced. Like the pot selling dad and the troubled daughter. I did not like that they brought Bode from Fire Country for a scene as he is a horrible actor.
