So far I'm into episode 4. Ep1 was indeed a bit boring, as has been said by others. But you'll get to the end. In Ep2 the story begins to unfold. Don't expect a masterpiece in originality or story telling or camera work or dialog or anything really. All the 10 star reviews are just not objective, but neither are the 1 stars. Taste may be a bigger factor here than in other shows, because the story is nothing new, but it is done in a somewhat original way as a mix of horror (not much of it really), drama, and comedy (childish/quirky /silly, like in many k-series), and it may just suit you or it may not. It's harmless k-comedy-drama at its core in a zombie setting. Why not. The characters are a bit generic and could use more depth, but I do care about the main parts. And I wonder how the story continues, and what becomes of them.
So all in all, a solid 7. After Ep4 I raise to 7.5. Fine with me for a few hours of escapism.

Newtopia is a refreshing and quirky Korean series that blends the zombie genre with comedy, thriller, and romance, making it an enjoyable watch for a wide range of viewers. The series follows the story of Jaeyoon, a soldier in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, and his long-distance relationship with his girlfriend, Youngjoo. Amidst the chaos and danger of a collapsing world overrun by zombies, their relationship is a central focus that adds emotional depth to the show.
The love story between Jaeyoon and Youngjoo is sweet yet filled with complications, mainly due to the constant distance and miscommunication that plagues their relationship. Both characters clearly love each other, but they are caught in a situation where time is scarce, and misunderstandings frequently arise. The distance between them-both physical and emotional at times-adds a layer of tension and humor, as their conversations often result in amusing but relatable mix-ups. Their relationship is heartfelt, and viewers can easily sympathize with the challenges they face in trying to keep their love alive while the world around them falls apart.
Jaeyoon himself is a character full of depth-he's serious about his soldier duties but also surprisingly charming and comedic when interacting with his fellow soldiers. His camaraderie with the other soldiers is where much of the comedy comes from. The soldiers, while caught in the middle of a zombie outbreak, engage in playful banter and find themselves in absurd situations. Their humor is lighthearted and often nonsensical, with many comedic moments arising from their failures and misunderstandings. These funny interactions with Jaeyoon add a much-needed sense of levity to the series, which balances the darker, more suspenseful aspects of the zombie apocalypse.
The zombies themselves are less terrifying and more of a background element in the show. The focus is less on the traditional survival horror and more on the relationships, personal dynamics, and humor that emerge in such an extreme situation. While there are moments of thrilling zombie action, Newtopia doesn't rely on traditional horror tropes. Instead, it uses the chaotic setting of a world overrun by zombies to build humorous and sometimes absurd situations.
The show's tone is also a key strength. It effortlessly switches between zombie action, comedy, and moments of emotional reflection. Whether it's Jaeyoon and his fellow soldiers getting into ridiculous situations while trying to survive, or Jaeyoon dealing with his relationship with Youngjoo, the series maintains a fun and sometimes silly atmosphere, which makes it stand out from other more serious zombie dramas.
The collapse of society due to the zombie outbreak is a backdrop for exploring human relationships and survival. While the threat of the zombies is always looming, the real story is about Jaeyoon's emotional journey, his efforts to stay connected to Youngjoo, and his hilarious misadventures with his fellow soldiers. This gives Newtopia a refreshing, lighthearted vibe, even though it's set in a world where survival is anything but guaranteed.
In conclusion, Newtopia offers a unique take on the zombie genre by blending comedy, romance, and thrills in a fun and entertaining way. Jaeyoon and Youngjoo's long-distance love story provides an emotional core, while the ridiculous humor between Jaeyoon and his fellow soldiers brings the laughs. It's a series that doesn't take itself too seriously but still delivers a satisfying and enjoyable experience for viewers looking for something different in the zombie genre.

Only 2 episodes have released but honestly saying, I am just obsessed with the series already. Everything is so good but the best part is the comedy. I am enjoying it so much, can't wait for the zombie action scenes but I am loving the comic elements as of now. Park Jeong Min is great great great and so hilarious for real. I am now his fan for sure. As for Kim Jisoo, I knew she was a crackhead in Blackpink so of course this role would suit her a lot and she didn't disappointed me at all. She is so funny as well and I definitely see the improvement in her acting from snowdrop. She acted great in snowdrop as a debutant but at some points, it felt like "she is acting", but as young Joo, it doesn't feel like she is acting, it feels like she is young Joo, she is living that character which is important for any actor out there. The plot is also quite interesting and very unusual which makes it even better. It's different from other zombie series definitely, and I am so excited for the upcoming episodes of Newtopia.
Wow, It was only 2 episode. But I love it. Jisoo nailed her acting. She worked so hard for this drama. I am proud of her. And the main actor. I love their Chemistry already.😭 Cannot wait for next episode. It is so funny. Zomcom drama. The best drama ever. Drama of the year already. I know people already love it. Please everyone support this and share with your family. It is worth to watch. Donot regret after watching this. I want to spoil it. But not now. I want people watch it with their curiosity. So, everyone subscribe prime video and watch it now. Donot forgot yo write reviews. Best wishes for this drama.
I was not expecting much as i thought Jisoo is still quite inexperienced actress. But i was wrong. Every minute was worth it. The little details like slipping on blood, head getting stuck between elevator door, young joo putting the eyeball in polly bag and then someone crushing it under feet while running, Jin-wook peeing and panicking being in car. Everything was on point and funny. So far loving In ho - Jae yoon and Young joo - Jin wook duo. Now i can't wait longer for the next episode. It's gonna be a good watch for comedy lovers like me. Hope that, we won't get to see sad ending or tragedy.
