Donkey Kong Country Returns

I've played this game over the course of 10 years, I've restarted many files just because I wanted to play again and again. I've probably had around 200 save files. Every single level has an amazing atmosphere, and also something that makes it totally unique compared to others. Every level is a good memory for me.

The music is perfect.

The levels are perfect.

Diddy Kong is OP.

Collecting all of the Kong letters and puzzle pieces is a great challenge with great rewards.

After I know all of the correct routes to take, I feel like I'm walking through a museum of brilliant art, because the levels are beautiful.

I would recommend this game to anyone.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a fantastic comeback to a fan favorite gaming franchise that takes it to a new level. Where it gives both fans and newcomers a new experience for its return with a solid premise, great graphics that brings the Kong island to 2D platforming in a new way, wacky bosses, and exciting gameplay with their both old and new style. If you have been a fan of the Donkey Kong Country games, I think you are gonna have as much fun with this game. And this could even be for newcomers to get themselves introduced to the franchise and get themselves hooked. I know it has been quite a while just recently since we did get a new Donkey Kong Country game, but this is definitely a blast seeing the franchise come back.

My oh my was this game good. It was graphically stunning for the Wii and would not look out of place on the Xbox 360 and PS3. I am a huge fan of Retro Studios and the Metroid Prime Trilogy and thought they were the perfect company to take on the franchise post RareWare.

All the levels are fun, flowing, expertly crafted and designed with loads of atmosphere and graphical detail. There is a level early on where your are on a beach at sunset with only the silouhettes of Donkey and Diddy with their red hats and ties only shown with some really funky jazz music on top. This game is full of great moments with a return of the mine art stage, though I think it's even better than it was in the 1994 game with more of the stages aswell

So many other reviews have said it better than I could so just play the game already. The Donkey Kong Country seires reinvents the idea of the 2D platformer. Before the original DKC, platformers were relatively basic levels that you just ran through. Then Rareware destroys this idea by making this game so elaborate and interesting. The next two games only expand on this idea.

But after the 3rd entry the Donkey Kong Country series just faded into obscurity as way more games became 3D. Then Retro Studios transforms a previously 2D series, Metroid, into 3D with Metroid Prime. Those games and great and you should also play them but after that Retro Studios wanted to revisit another classic franchise. This is where Donkey Kong Country Returns steps in. This game brings back the great experience of the original trilogy and modernizes it in every way.

What can I even say that hasn't been said before. Donkey Kong Country Returns will always be my favorite platformer of all time. I recommend it 100%.
