His new film will be based on Ghosts of Hiroshima, a book by Charles Pellegrino that tells the true story of Tsutomu Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi survived the atomic bombings of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, making his experience one of the most incredible and tragic in history.

The audiobook recently got its first and second teaser trailer and is narrated by Martin Sheen, a three-time Emmy winner, and features original music by Hans Zimmer.

James Cameron is opening up about his future with the Avatar franchise!

The soon-to-be 71-year-old filmmaker started developing the first movie in the mid-1990s, but it didn’t go into production until April 2007, with the movie being released in late 2009.

Now, a second movie was released 13 years later, and the third, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is coming out in December 2025, with fourth and fifth movies in the works as well.

Previously, James said he might step away from directing Avatar 4 and 5 as they are “all-consuming” and he has other projects he’s interesting in doing. Now, he’s sharing an update on if he’ll direct the next movies.

James Cameron said in a new interview with Empire magazine that he’s “good to go” when it comes to directing “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5.” The third “Avatar” movie, officially titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” opens in theaters later this year. Cameron originally cast doubt on his “Avatar” directing future, telling Empire in 2022 that helming the franchise is “all-consuming” and he might want to “pass the baton” to another director starting with “Avatar 4.” But that’s no longer the Oscar winner’s intention.

“I mean, there’s no reason not to,” Cameron said ahead of his 71st birthday in August about directing more “Avatar” sequels himself. “I’m healthy, I’m good to go. I’m not going to rule it out. I mean, I’ve got to make it in a vigorous way, to handle the kind of volume and energy of the work for another six or seven years.

James Cameron is best known for making huge blockbuster hits. Though he started smaller-scale with movies like The Abyss, the filmmaker famously went on to have a massive $2.2 billion hit in 1997 with Titanic. Nowadays, three out of the top five highest-grossing movies ever were helmed by Cameron.

This includes 2009's Avatar, which remains the highest-grossing movie of all time with its $2.9 billion gross. Avatar: The Way of Water comes in at no. 3 with $2.3 billion, and Cameron hopes to pull off another record with Avatar: Fire and Ash, which comes out on Dec. 19 of this year.
