Mj's sister and her DCI totally insufferable! To the point I was yelling obscenities at the tv. This series came off like a terribly written soap opera. I like all the actors in this but the writing is just awful. Pauline Quirke and Felix Scott are fantastic talent the scripts failed them miserably. I think I seen what the writers were attempting but it wasn't pulled off.
I just found this series, and I think it's delightful. The writing is good, as is the acting; there are several well known actors in it. The plots aren't complicated, but that's just what I need sometimes. The episodes are 45 minutes long, and the cases are wrapped up in each episode, perfect for some "comfort TV". By no means is this series "horrible" as one previous reviewer wrote. It's also nice that the lead actress isn't a beautiful young Hollywood type, but rather a real person; this is something I like about British series.
I finished season 1 and am in the middle of season 2. It's not the most exciting police procedural show I've seen and it is a bit cliched at times with some of the writing. I don't particulary like the character of MJ. She is bossy and sometimes a little impatient to everyone and her family melodrama is not particularly interesting. The woman who plays her "missing" but found sister is just awful. I like the characters of Jason and Amy though, which is why I gave it 6 stars.
This is a poorly written soap opera type police series with dreary characters, simplistic plots and a lead character that looks like someone's Nan. The supporting characters are uninteresting and also uninterested! They add little to the series. It's just a badly done, badly written series that could not last. The episodes do little to draw you in, and it is just a mindless watch that let's your mind drift off. Everything gets wrapped up nicely at the end of each episode, but if the episodes were more interesting, and the characters a bit more developed and with more depth to them, it may have encouraged me to stick with it. As it was, had to bail mid season 1.
I suffered the indignity of the first episode of this latest 10 part soap opera and in doing so watched every tired cliché retread in the book. If you have run out of lines in a police drama then just insert "I'll get uniform on to it!" or " Uniform are on it, ma'am!" or better still "I thought uniform was dealing with that!" The ma'am in question doesn't get on with her boss, she doesn't know if she'll make important family gatherings because she's got a big case on, A chap is sulking 'cos his dad doesn't understand him being gay, an office romance is about as interesting as watching a fart dissipate.
Add to that the appalling script and the melodramatic nonsense of the story and you are in for a rough ride.
It's... well, just bloody awful!
