Angels of Vengeance

In the small and beautiful "Valley Of The Angels," a misguided leader, of a "religious sect" vows vengeance on his son that was killed. Straws are drawn to see who goes into Copper City and kills the man who murdered his son. Sarah Buchanan, a sweet young woman, draws the assignment. Some try to talk the leader, "Abraham Saxon," out of it, quoting the Bible that it is written "to love your enemies," but Saxon is bent on vengeance. In fact, it turns out all of the people are peaceful, like the Amish, and want no problems but unlike the real-life Amish, they allow this violent man to take over their community.

Sarah rides into town and unsuccessfully tries to shoot Randall and then is captured by our hero. Josh finds out why she was trying to shoot him and decides to ride back with her and clear this mess up. He doesn't want people trying to kill him. By the way, it was nice to see wholesome actresses like Rachel Ames, who played Sarah. (She is listed as "Judith Ames" on the ending credits.) This lady has been married to same man since 1968, too. In Hollywood, that's a rarity.

Anyway, Sarah and Josh ride back to the Valley and it proves dangerous. There is some pretty good suspense with this episode.

A young woman is sent out to murder Josh Randall. Not the first time, but he catches up to her after she tries to shoot him when he is getting a haircut. Turns out she is one of the angels of vengeance sent out by John Dehner.

Dehner is the leader of a cult that seems to be Amish. Everyone has the big stick-on beards, and quote extensively from the Bible. Randall killed Dehner's son in a gunfight, and Dehner wants revenge.

Sarah is played by Rachel Ames, who has a very wholesome look. She does not want to kill anyone, but she has to under penalty of death. Randall decides to face Dehner and explain that he killed his son in a fair gunfight.

Dehner wants Rachel / Sarah to kill Randall, as a sort of revenge on her for rejecting his son Virgil. Eduard Franz plays the other elder of the community, and he argues that revenge and justice are not the same thing.

Dehner, in another of his many wooden performances, goes on a rant about how great his son was, and why Randall must die. The rifle is aimed, and it looks like Randall is not going to be around for the next episode... Will fate intervene?

Someone has taken a potshot at Josh Randall. It is a woman from the Valley of Angels church called Sarah Buchanan.

She has been selected by Abraham Saxon (John Dehner) the head of the church avenge the death of his son by Josh.

She cannot return until she has killed Josh, but she misses and Josh gets hold of her.

Now he travels back with her to find out why Saxon wants him dead. Only to find Saxon is a deranged maniac with his own twisted church rules.

A bit of a morality play here. A deranged performance from Dehner. Unable to comprehend that his son was a drunk and lost in a gunfight to Josh as he was too slow to draw.
