One more special for the catalog of Akira Toriyama's stories, which is purely entertainment and comedy in his creator's style. All his essence about the characters and those dark comedy plots with other works by the mangaka are more than obvious. Even so, it's worth giving it a chance.
"Kennosuke-sama," with its 20-minute duration, gifts us the adventures of this rather curious character, similar to one we already know. The plot revolves around the aspect of ignorance about dating girls, learning about it, and how to provide an excellent experience. Perhaps curious about the ages of the characters, but Toriyama was like that, a comedic being who, on this occasion, does not overlook his focus on adult themes.
The entire animation section seems well executed to me (very similar to Dragon Ball) as it has some details in its line work, color tones, and well-achieved movement sequences. This OVA has a simple narrative that only provides comedy with the aim of enjoying a pleasant or entertaining moment. It won't surprise you, but it has its great merit.
From my perspective, the musical score is the best part of this special, perfectly matching what the story offers with energetic melodies that are reminiscent of Goku's adventures in Dragon Ball. Referring to that theme, our protagonist embodies the essence of a Saiyan but in a samurai style. We have a secondary character very similar to Oolong, but with the outfit he used Shu. Additionally, having a Chi Chi when she was a child. Akira Toriyama and his characteristic way of depicting characters in his most famous work.
In the context of other specials by the mangaka, this one might be the most divisive in terms of criticism due to its limited content, and it might be the least liked among his fans.
5.5/10.
