‘We had some crazy plans’: Genndy Tartakovsky revisits his lost ‘Popeye’ film and explains why R-rated ‘Fixed’ faces an ‘uphill climb’ at the Oscars
Image
For most of its quarter-century history, the Best Animated Feature Oscar has been the designated kiddie prize of the Academy Awards. Starting with the very first recipient, Shrek, way back in 2001, PG-rated family fare tends to dominate the list of the category's nominees and winners.

But there have been some notable exceptions: in 2015, Charlie Kaufman broke the category's R-rated barrier with his stop-motion feature Anomalisa, which lost to Pixar's Inside Out. And last year, Adam Elliot's Memoir of a Snail repeated that achievement, although the Oscar ultimately went to Flow — a silent cartoon that's not adults-only material, but also isn't the typical programmer for a weekend family matinee at your local multiplex.

Fans Of HBO's Primal Need To Watch This Adult Swim Fantasy Series
Image
Genndy Tartakovsky is a master of his craft and a legendary modern animator. He helped with the creation of Cartoon Network Studios, while his work on "Dexter's Laboratory" and "The Powerpuff Girls" helped establish Cartoon Network as the successor to Hanna-Barbera, ushering in a new era of American cartoons along the way.

Tartakovsky has tackled plenty of genres throughout his career since then, going from comedy to fantasy, sci-fi, drama, and even horror, but he's often combined all of them into a single story, as he did with his masterpiece, "Samurai Jack." And while Tartakovsky is arguably best known for his work on all ages projects, he is just as adept at making animation for adults. His latest project is "Fixed," a raunchy, transgressive, and very hard R-rated animated comedy about a dog going on a wild adventure out on the town the night before he's due to be neutered.

Idris Elba Gets Raunchy In Netflix's 2025 Animated Comedy From Samurai Jack's Creator
Image
Adult animation is absolutely everywhere right now as more viewers are flooding streaming services to discover shows and movies that cater to a more mature audience. But this was not always the case, as animation is still sometimes regarded as a medium for children, and that ridiculous thought still runs rampant up from time to time. Longtime animator Genndy Tartakovsky has played a role in getting an entire generation hooked on different TV shows and movies with titles like "Samurai Jack" and "Dexter's Laboratory." But, his latest picture recruits Idris Elba, Adam DeVine, and Kathryn Hahn for something truly raunchy, and folks who are down for a bit of adult humor are going to absolutely love "Fixed."

Netflix is now streaming "Fixed," an animated comedy about a dog named Bull (Adam DeVine), who isn't too stoked about the prospect of getting neutered and decides to have one last night on...

The One Reason Animators Went Above And Beyond On Genndy Tartakovsky's Fixed [Exclusive]
Image
Critical reception of animation legend Genndy Tartakovsky's filthy new feature, "Fixed," is decidedly mixed, but if there's one thing everyone agrees upon, it's that the 2D animation is truly phenomenal. Netflix has been having a hell of a year in its animation department, with "KPop Demon Hunters" becoming a chart-topping sensation and early buzz surrounding the upcoming release "In Your Dreams" proving that the streaming juggernaut has become a legitimate contender in the animation space. As the creator of groundbreaking series like "Dexter's Laboratory," "Samurai Jack," and his magnum opus, "Primal," Tartakovsky is the kind of creative who should be handed blank checks to do with whatever he pleases — even if it's a movie featuring talking dogs and roughly 100 jokes about testicles. When it comes to animation styles, he's truly done it all, and when it came to "Fixed," he knew the story needed a classic, familiar look.

Fixed Ending Explained: Why Does Honey Freak Out After the Competition?
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!The article reveals major plot points from Netflix's Fixed

What happens in the new Netflix film Fixed that causes Honey to leave the competition even after winning the title? Genndy Tartakovsky’s dream project, Fixed, has finally landed on Netflix, drawing mixed reviews. While the longtime fans of the animator, known for classics like Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Laboratory, praise the 2D animation and nostalgic visual style, not everyone feels the same.

The adult comedy, packed with risqué humor, follows Bull, a slick and quick-witted Staffordshire Bull Terrier who must face the harsh reality of being neutered after his owners grow tired of his relentless humping.

Needless to say, it’s not something that everyone would enjoy, but there are elements that might win viewers over, especially the romantic thread between Bull and Honey and the lingering question of whether they end up together by the end.

Netflix’s ‘Fixed’: An Unflinching Look at Canine Crisis and Hand-Drawn Rebellion
Image
In the landscape of contemporary American animation, a field largely domesticated by four-quadrant family entertainment, Genndy Tartakovsky’s Fixed arrives as a startling and feral proposition. The film presents a deceptively simple, high-concept premise: Bull, an average, all-around good dog, discovers he has 24 hours until he is scheduled to be neutered. This inciting incident triggers a frenetic, last-ditch adventure with his pack of canine friends, structured as a wild-night-out escapade. Yet, beneath its R-rated, comedy-of-humiliation surface lies a work of surprising thematic density. The narrative is less about a dog’s carnal panic and more a profound existential crisis. Tartakovsky himself has framed Bull’s anxiety through a potent analogy...

Genndy Tartakovsky Talks Journey To Getting R-Rated Netflix Animated Movie ‘Fixed’ Over The Line: “I Was Going To A Dark Place”
Image
Genndy Tartakovsky’s R-rated animated comedy Fixed – about a dog on a mission to get his rocks off, before they are chopped off by the vet – hits Netflix this week after buzzy screenings at Annecy and Montreal’s Fantasia Festival over the summer.

Its arrival on the platform marks the end of a 16-year journey to get the movie over the line and connected to audiences for Tartakovsky, who is best known as the director of the first three movies in the Hotel Transylvania franchise as well as Adult Swim series such as Samurai Jack and Primal aimed at older audiences.

Fixed follows the adventures of canine protagonist Bull, voiced by Pitch Perfect star Adam Divine, who discovers he’s going to be neutered in the morning when his owners reach the end of their tether over his constant humping of grandma’s leg.

Hearing the news, his pack of...

Is Adam Devine’s Fixed for Kids? Parents Guide for Netflix’s New Animated Film
Image
Adam Devine’s upcoming movie, Fixed, is definitely not for kids. The animated movie is strictly rated R by the MPAA for strong s**ual jokes, drug use, and violence, which means it’s for adults only. Anyone under 17 should watch it with adult supervision. This movie is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (you might know him for his work in Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack).

Other such movies, such as Big Mouth, F Is for Family, and Paradise Pd, to name a few, are also in the same section as Fixed. These flicks are often bright and colorful, something that kids are extremely fond of. But these are surely not what you’d like to catch your kids watching.

So, here’s a parent’s guide for Netflix’s Fixed.

Netflix’s New Releases Coming in August 2025
Image
An Oxford-set college rom-com from the guy behind The Inbetweeners; the return of one of Netflix’s biggest ever shows; Genndy Tartakovsky’s latest adult animated project; Vanessa Kirby’s return to more intimate dramas about the human condition; a documentary that promised to shed new light on the Jussie Smollett hate crime incident; and a murder mystery film featuring several British and Irish acting icons are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in August.

Kicking off August is the rom-com My Oxford Year, which focuses on the tried and trusted formula of a young American girl heading to stuffy old Europe and finding love with some impossibly handsome and terribly charming guy, so it’s almost guaranteed to find a huge audience. In this instance, Sofia Carson plays Anna, an ambitious American student at Oxford University whose life is changed when she meets...

Fixed Trailer: Idris Elba Voices a Streetwise in Genndy Tartakovsky’s Raunchiest Dog Animation

Netflix has just dropped a brand new look, a sneak peek trailer for Fixed, the upcoming adult animated comedy from Emmy-winning director Genndy Tartakovsky. The trailer gives a hilarious and unfiltered look at the group of dogs, led by Adam Devine’s Bull. Idris Elba voices Rocco, Bull’s tough but loyal friend.

In this trailer, the dogs are running at full speed, led by their humans, all heading urgently outside for their morning pee and poop ritual. What adds more laughs is their desperate and exaggerated words, “gotta go, gotta go” before they take care of their business.

Fixed premieres August 13, 2025, exclusively on Netflix, and boasts an all-star cast that includes Idris Elba, Adam Devine, and Kathryn Hahn. With vibrant 2D animation and a sharp adult edge, the movie marks Sony Pictures Animation’s first-ever R-rated feature.

Fixed Review — Genndy Tartakovsky’s Triumphant Return Is an Artistic Adult Animation
Image
Animator Genndy Tartakovsky made a name for himself with Cartoon Network shows like Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack, establishing him as one of the voices to watch in animation in the ‘90s and early aughts. Because of this, animation fans won’t dismiss his latest work as just another raunchy adult animated movie — although it doesn’t lack the raunchy fun — Fixed is a genuinely artistic, well-made picture with the unmistakable touch of its creator.

Fixed Review

Fixed follows a horny mutt who discovers that his humans are going to take him to the vet in the morning to be neutered, causing him to go out on the town for one last night of debauchery before losing his manhood. The best way to describe this film is like The Hangover if it were made for Adult Swim, and it’s just as crazy as that sounds.

The Filthiest Movie Of 2025 Is An Animated Netflix Release – And The Trailer Is Here
Image
Genndy Tartakovsky is an absolute legend of animation. He helped usher a new era of animated creativity on TV during the dawn of Cartoon Network with "Dexter's Laboratory" before going on to redefine all-ages animation yet again with the cartoon masterpiece that is "Samurai Jack." And while Tartakovsky's big-screen efforts have been pretty much aimed at kids up to this point, specifically with the "Hotel Transylvania" movies, he's finally returning with his first feature film in seven years ... one that's less "Dexter's Laboratory" and more "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."

Tartakovsky's "Fixed" has a very simple premise: A dog learns he's getting neutered the next day, so he decides to enjoy one last wild night out on the town with his best buds to let his testicles party before they depart. Yes, this is an animated movie about dog balls — and it is gloriously animated in 2D.

The first trailer for the film is here,...

‘Fixed’ Trailer: Netflix Unveils Director’s Cut Taster For Genndy Tartakovsky’s R-Rated Comedy About A Randy Dog
Image
Dog lovers around the world may find it hard to look their male, canine friends in the eyes again after watching Genndy Tartakovsky’s upcoming adult animated movie Fixed.

The R-rated comedy follows the adventures of Bull an average, all-around good dog who discovers he’s going to be taken to the vet to be neutered in the morning by his owners, exasperated by his constant humping of grandma’s leg.

As the gravity of this life-altering event sets in, Bull realizes he needs one last adventure with his pack of best friends in the last 24 hours with his balls intact.

Netflix has released a red band director’s cut trailer for the movie – giving a taster of the whacky boundary-pushing animation ahead of its launch on the platform on August 13.

The movie world premiered to an enthusiastic crowd at the Annecy International Film Festival in June and also received...

‘Fixed’ Trailer: Genndy Tartakovsky’s Animated Dog Story is Definitely Not For Kids
Image
For two decades, animation auteur Genndy Tartakovsky has been pushing the limits of kids’ animation, via beloved shows like “Dexter’s Laboratory” and “Samurai Jack.” In recent years, he’s largely abandoned the constraints of children’s media entirely, with his latest projects like the “Samurai Jack” reboot and “Primal” airing on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block and indulging in violence and gore befitting the grown ups who grew up watching and loving his old classics. His latest project, feature film “Fixed,” is mature in a completely different way, telling a dog story with wildly puerile and filthy sexual humor. And that’s on full display in the Director’s Cut trailer, which Netflix released this Thursday.

Directed by Tartakovsky and co-written by him and Jon Vitti (best known for his work on “The Simpsons”), “Fixed” focuses on 24 hours in the life of Bull (voiced by Adam DeVine), a good-natured...

I Want Genndy Tartakovsky to Direct One Star Wars Movie After He Called Himself an “Animation B**ch”
Image
Genndy Tartakovsky is a certified animation legend, having helmed some of the most iconic cartoons of the 1990s. In an interview, Tartakovsky described himself as an “animation b**ch,” underlining his love for the medium. As a result, I need Tartakovsky to direct a Star Wars movie about an underrated character.

Tartakovsky previously worked on the animated Star Wars: Clone Wars, a short series exploring the titular conflict set during the space opera franchise’s prequel trilogy era. However, I want Tartakovsky to return to the franchise and tackle the story of one character for whom his style is best suited. Here is the Star Wars animated movie I wish Genndy Tartakovsky directed.

Genndy Tartakovsky Needs to Direct a Star Wars Movie After His Comments About Animation Genndy Tartakovsky in an interview with Wired (Credit: YouTube).

A Cartoon Network Classic Was Born Out Of Complaints About Action Shows
Image
In the '90s and early '00s, Cartoon Network was almost an oasis for animation. This was a place where artists could create their own shows and be supported by a studio and a network, rather than cartoons being created by producers or executives. It was a new golden age after the creative bankruptcy of the toy ad-driven '80s, an era of such groundbreaking shows as "The Powerpuff Girls" and "Dexter's Laboratory," of experimental shows and stunning animation.

After the initial wave of cartoons, Cartoon Network Studios was established, and a second generation of shows created by the original animators started being released. Key among them was "Samurai Jack," the highest-rated animated series on Metacritic and a testament to the beauty of animation. The cartoon follows a time-traveling samurai who attempts to stop a powerful shapeshifting demon from taking over the world. The show explored a myriad of genres and tones,...

A Failed Adult Swim Fantasy Show Directed By By Genndy Tartakovsky Could Have Been A Classic
Image
"Korgoth of Barbaria" was the brainchild of Aaron Springer, the creator and star of the 2017 Disney Xd series "Billy Dilley's Super-Duper Subterranean Summer." Springer is a long-time veteran of the American animation industry, having come up through Spümcø ("The Ren & Stimpy Show"), and who went on to write for "SpongeBob SquarePants." In the early 2000s, he started working as a writer and storyboard artists on shows like "Dexter's Laboratory" and "Samurai Jack," both created by animation superstar Genndy Tartakovsky. He also had a stint on "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy," so he was clearly used to working with style and a great deal of visual wit.

In 2006, Springer had his biggest job to date, creating a crass, violent fantasy series called "Korgoth of Barbaria," a show on which he served as creator, producer, writer, director, storyboard artist, character designer, and probably caterer. The hilarious Diedrich Bader played the title character,...

Netflix's Long-Awaited R Rated Animated Comedy 'Fixed' Finally Let Out Of Its Cage
Image
It's been a long and winding road for animation legend Genndy Tartakovsky to get his animated film Fixed made, making it a miracle that it was finally able to premiere at the Annecy Film Festival this past week, a little over 16 years after Tartakovsky first conceived of the idea for the film and pitched it to Sony. Now, a release date has finally been confirmed for the long-in-development film, which has changed hands at several studios throughout the decade, before finally settling with a distributor. Following the premiere at the festival, we now know when we can finally see Tartakovsky's raunchy 2D animated comedy.

It has been officially revealed that Fixed will be released on Netflix worldwide on August 13, making it just under two months until the animated film, which was almost never made, is finally available for everyone to watch. While the original pitch for Fixed (a dog and...

Annecy: Cartoon Network Studios’ Biggest Icons Look Back on 25 Years of Animation
Image
The ’90s and early ’00s were a new golden era for TV animation, a time when shows could come not from executives and board rooms, but from people with a unique creative vision. Nickelodeon exploded unto the scene with “Doug,” “Rugrats,” and “The Ren & Stimpy Show” before Cartoon Network responded a few years later with their first original cartoons starting with “Dexter’s Laboratory.”

That show helped establish Cartoon Network as an incubator of talent and ideas, an incubator that would later become a studio when Cartoon Network Studios was properly founded as a separate entity from Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. Animation 25 years ago. Continuing the spirit of experimentation and creatively driven projects from the early days of the network, the studio’s first show was unlike anything else at the time, a genre-bending action show with little dialogue, born out of complaints from its creator, Genndy Tartakovsky.

Genndy Tartakovsky Knows ‘Fixed’ Is a ‘Unicorn’ of an Animated Movie
Image
Having worked on the project for 15 years, Genndy Tartakovsky is fully aware that his latest film, “Fixed,” is an anomaly. Here is a raunchy, capital R-rated 2D animated comedy about a dog having one last wild night out on the town before getting neutered in the morning and losing his precious family jewels. Despite having several acclaimed shows and a highly successful animated film trilogy in his resume, Tartakovsky’s “Fixed” could have easily not made it to the screen — and it almost didn’t several times.

“I’ve always said this movie is a unicorn,” Tartakovsky told IndieWire ahead of the film’s release at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. “It’s a dream come true to have a 2D animated, hand-drawn, R-rated movie that doesn’t rely on pop culture humor. It’s very rare.”

He is not wrong. Though on the surface, it’d be easy...

‘Fixed’: Genndy Tartakovsky’s Long-Neutered R-Rated Dog Comedy Finally Gets Unleashed
Image
How’s this for a R-rated animated comedy idea: A pooch and his doggy friends go out for one wild night on the town before he’s set to get neutered. Good, right?

“I think it’s the best elevator pitch I’ve ever had,” says Genndy Tartakovsky, about the concept for Fixed, his first R-rated feature, which premiered at the Annecy film festival on Wednesday. “Every time I say it, everybody laughs. You have the vision of a movie, right there.”

That pitch, back in 2009, was enough to get Tartakovsky in the door at Sony Pictures Animation. Tartakovsky was already an established, and Emmy-winning hitmaker, at Warner Bros. Cartoon Network, thanks to shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, Powderpuff Girls and Samurai Jack. Fixed was set to be his first feature, and Sony’s first-ever R-rated animated film.

Then everything changed.

Cartoon Network Studios Icons McCracken, Tartakovsky, Sugar, Quintel, Ward and Muto on the Studio, State of the Industry and What Inspires Them
Image
In an intimate and candid discussion at this year’s Annecy Animation Festival, the biggest names behind some of television’s most iconic animated series met with Variety to talk legacy, change and the shifting landscape of the medium they helped define.

Creators Craig McCracken (“The Powerpuff Girls” “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends”), Genndy Tartakovsky, Rebecca Sugar (“Steven Universe”), Pendleton Ward and J.G. Quintel (“Regular Show”) and “Adventure Time” executive producer and showrunner Adam Muto opened up about the origins of their work, a new era of creation and what it means to still be pushing boundaries after decades in the business.

The conversation ranged from nostalgic memories of Cartoon Network Studio’s golden era – Annecy hosted a celebratory 25th anniversary panel for the studio on Tuesday afternoon – to bold speculation about the future of animation. At its core was the recognition that while technology, audience behavior and corporate structures have transformed dramatically,...

Interview: Iyanu’s Roye Okupe Talks About Becoming the #1 Animated Series on Cartoon Network

Patience. That was the biggest lesson that creator Roye Okupe learned as the adaptation of his Dark Horse Comics series Iyanu: Child of Wonder was turned into an animated series. “For me, personally, development for the project started in 2020, so I’ve been on this for the last five years,” Okupe said. “So, I think patience is what you learn very quickly, because it’s one thing to tell people, ‘Hey, it’s coming,’ for five years. But, as a creator, you always want to share things with people. But it wasn’t until this year that the show came out, that people could actually see what we’ve been working on for a very long time.” Okupe and the team’s patience were rewarded, though, as Iyanu turned into a hit animated show, establishing itself in the top 10 kids shows on Max and as the number one show on Cartoon Network.

Genndy Tartakovsky has been renowned for his work in animation for a long time. Be it children’s hits like Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack, or mature and violent shows like Primal, Tartakovsky has a masterful filmography, being behind some of the greatest animated hits of the past decade.

Among these is, of course, Star Wars: Clone Wars, the short-lived 2D animated shorts, which had minimal dialogue and were chock-full of action, something that Tartakovsky has revealed time and time again that he is brilliant at. The animator revealed that this is something he has honed over his career, stretching back to some of his first works.

Genndy Tartakovsky: The Way We Did ‘Clone Wars’ Is the Best Way to Do It Because “We didn’t get stuck in our own fandom”
Image
Genndy Tartakovsky is a certified genius in the animation space, having delivered some of the most memorable cartoons in the past few decades. From the spunky Powerpuff Girls to the incredibly introspective Samurai Jack, Tartakovsky has shown his brilliance in a variety of genres.

One of the less discussed titles in Tartakovsky’s filmography is the animated Star Wars: Clone Wars. The short-lived series was set between the second and third installments of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Tartakovsky admitted that the only way to get the series right was not to get tied into the fandom, and here is what he had to say about the approach to making Clone Wars.

Genndy Tartakovsky believes there was no better way to do Star Wars: Clone Wars

When Is ‘Dexter’ Leaving Netflix? Showtime Makes Its Plan Clear Right Before ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Release Date
Image
Dexter has remained one of Showtime’s biggest hits and continues to be a fan favorite, with its universe expanding through the upcoming series Dexter: Resurrection and a Trinity Killer spinoff. In light of this, Showtime appears to be consolidating its content, as recent reports suggest that the crime drama will soon leave Netflix.

The move comes ahead of the new series’ release and seems to signal Showtime’s intent to keep the franchise exclusive to its own platform, a strategic decision that hints at the upcoming series’ importance.

Dexter is set to leave Netflix ahead of the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection

A year after Netflix added the full Dexter series to its catalog, the crime drama is now set to leave the platform. All 96 episodes across 8 seasons joined the streamer in June 2024.

Genndy Tartakovsky’s Original Idea for Dexter’s Laboratory Was a Ballerina Dancer: “I was just doodling this girl”
Image
In the ‘90s golden era of animation, Dexter’s Laboratory surfaced as a far-reaching force: quirky, smart, and different from anything viewers had seen before. But behind the cartoon’ futuristic setting and sibling anarchy lies a much daintier, almost poetic origin story. Genndy Tartakovsky, the maker of the show, did not begin this journey with a boy genius and secrets devices.

In fact, the first spark for the show came from a completely different muse: a ballerina. Brainstorming ideas as a film student, Tartakovsky casually sketched up a lanky girl mid-dance. Little did he know that an unplanned doodle would one day evolve into Dee Dee, and eventually, one of Cartoon Network’s most legendary duos. What started as a mindless doodle of a whimsical ballerina ultimately redefined the direction of modern animation in the cartoon industry.

Ironically, Dee Dee paved the way for Dexter’s Laboratory

The creator of...

Creator Genndy Tartakovsky on Why ‘Dexter’s Laboratory’ Is a Hit: “None of us were married and we didn’t have kids”
Image
Dexter’s Laboratory creator Genndy Tartakovsky says his singlehood while working on the animated series was partly responsible for its success. Speaking in an interview, the ace animator shared his unorthodox point of view regarding relationships, as he implied that the show was successful because they were all single.

Almost three decades after the first episode of Dexter’s Laboratory aired on Cartoon Network, Tartakovsky shared the reason for the show’s success. The animated series narrated the story of a young science prodigy, Dexter, who did several science experiments in his laboratory. However, his experiments received challenges equally from his sister, Dee Dee, and his rival, Mandark.

While the storyline was intriguing enough to ensure Dexter’s Laboratory’s success, the 55-year-old Russian origin creator hints at something else. According to Tartakovsky, it was his and his team members’ marital status that played an important role.

Fixed First Look and Date Announcement From Netflix
Image
Netflix has shared a first look at Genndy Tartakovsky’s new adult animated comedy film, Fixed. The film will be available to stream on August 13, 2025.

Fixed is an adult animated comedy about Bull, an average, all-around good dog who discovers he’s going to be neutered in the morning!

As the gravity of this life-altering event sets in, Bull realizes he needs one last adventure with his pack of best friends, as these are the last 24 hours with his balls! What could go wrong…?

The voice cast includes Adam Devine, Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, Fred Armisen, Bobby Moynihan, Beck Bennett, Michelle Buteau, and River Gallo.

Genndy Tartakovsky, the creator and director behind Samurai Jack, Dexter’s Laboratory, Primal, and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal, told the Netflix blog Tudum, “I have been friends with the same group of four guys since high school. These guys make me laugh like nothing else, so I was thinking,...

Netflix releases new images of Genndy Tartakovsky’s adult animation film Fixed along with a release date
Image
Genndy Tartakovsky is one of Cartoon Network’s premiere contributors, with hits like Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, and Primal to his name. Tartakovsky is also one of the driving forces behind the Hotel Transylvania film series, which has done well for Sony with four films of varying success in the franchise. It was reported months ago that Tartakovsky’s newest mature audience fare, Fixed, fell victim to David Zaslav’s project jettison practice at Warner Bros. in order to save money at the studio. Sony regained the rights and Netflix has now picked it up to stream on August 13.

The official synopsis reads,

“From visionary director Genndy Tartakovsky comes Fixed, an adult animated comedy about Bull, an average, all-around good dog who discovers he’s going to be neutered in the morning! As the gravity of this life-altering event sets in, Bull realizes he needs one...

Metacritic's Highest-Rated Adventure-Horror Series Is An Animated Gem Streaming On Max
Image
"Primal" is many things. For starters, it's a thoughtful look at the unifying experiences of loss and grief, as well as one of the most accurate (and sensitive) depictions of what it's like to live with an animal companion put to screen. It's also the gnarliest animated "Conan the Barbarian" adaptation that's never been made and often plays like a Robert E. Howard fever dream.

Case in point: Over the course of Genndy Tartakovsky's rip-roaring blend of prehistoric fantasy, action-adventure, and horror, the show's heroes are forced to survive scraps with flash floods of blood-thirsty snakes, colossal bats, and even a dinosaur infected with what seems to be a nastier strain of the Rage virus from "28 Days Later." And that's before they cross paths with the human tribes residing in this extremely anachronistic (not to mention gleefully pulpy) vision of Earth's very distant past.

To put it another way,...

Metacritic's Highest-Rated Animated TV Show Is A Cartoon Network Classic
Image
Only one cartoon is on the list of the five best TV shows of all time, according to IMDb. On Metacritic, however, things are different. Rather than being based on user scores (which are notoriously vulnerable and prone to review bombing and other forms of bias), Metacritic bases its ratings mostly on review scores — but not just an arbitrary fresh/rotten, an actual score. This means these are actually the cartoons that have the highest review scores, the ones considered close to perfect.

Granted, there are still many problems with any sort of list coming from a review aggregator, starting with the limited number of reviews for older titles from before the era of movie and TV blogs. If there are only a handful of reviews, but they are all rated highly, does that weigh more than a modern show with a slightly lower score but exponentially more reviews?

In any case,...

Tyreak Told You Talks Anime Hair, Villains and Confidence

Ever-loquacious, Tyreak Told You is a content creator who talks about any and everything with a Brooklyn-cut candidness and creativity that leaves you rapt. Fearless, blunt, unapologetic, and absolutely hilarious, he’s amassed over 100K followers on TikTok and nearly 90K followers on Instagram. He talks about any and everything: pop culture mess, birthday cake etiquette, the weather, a chicken sandwich. If Tyreak is telling you about it, you’re going to listen. And now, he’s taking his raw insight to the anime community. I caught up with him for an interview and talked about anime, viral fame, villainy, audacity, and confidence — him dropping gems along the way that'll leave you sipping tea and reflecting. So your response to the Twitter question, “Whose bob ate more: Android 17’s or Android 18’s?” went viral.. Tyreak : Yeah, that was a huge surprise for me. So a little background: I just...

Netflix’s Narnia Reboot: Meryl Streep as Aslan? The Controversy of Gender and Race Swaps
Meryl Streep
Netflix’s Narnia Reboot: Meryl Streep in Talks to Play Aslan? When news broke that Meryl Streep is in talks to join Greta Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia reboot for Netflix, fans immediately assumed she would play the White Witch. Streep’s commanding presence and elegance seemed a perfect fit, much like Tilda Swinton’s portrayal in the 2005 film adaptation. However, reports now suggest that Streep may actually voice Aslan. Female voice actors have portrayed many iconic male characters in animation, such as: Nancy Cartwright as Bart Simpson (The Simpsons) Christine Cavanaugh as Dexter (Dexter’s Laboratory) June Foray as Rocky (Rocky and Bullwinkle) Kath Soucie as Phil and Lil (Rugrats) The Cautionary Tale of Controversial Character Changes This situation brings to mind other controversies surrounding character changes that led to significant backlash. Warner Bros. Once Rejected A Battle Between The Powerpuff Girls And Batman's Arch-Nemesis
Image
Early Cartoon Network was a wild time for imagination in animation. After being created mostly to just air classic Warner Bros., Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Hanna-Barbera cartoons, the mid-'90s saw Cartoon Network get into original programming with the introduction of Cartoon Cartoons. These were animated shorts that later got turned into full animated series like "Dexter's Laboratory," "Johnny Bravo," "Cow and Chicken," "Courage the Cowardly Dog," and "The Powerpuff Girls" -- shows that remain some of the best of the past 30 years. It was a time of great experimentation without a house style or a formula that allows for a series of cartoons that pushed the medium forward in visual style, tone, kineticism, and characters.

Many of these shows shared a lot of the same crew, with the very first Cartoon Cartoon, "Dexter's Laboratory," staffing future legends of the medium like Rob Renzetti, Seth MacFarlane, Butch Hartman, and "The Powerpuff Girls...

Before Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane Wrote For One Of Cartoon Network's Best Shows
Image
"Family Guy" is one of the most successful adult animated comedies of all time, following the suburban Griffin family through all kinds of wacky misadventures, and its creator Seth MacFarlane has ended up with an extensive career in comedy as a result. Once upon a time, however, he was just a writer working his way up through the ranks, learning how to put together a good cartoon comedy script. While on his way up, he worked on a beloved Cartoon Network series that would have an impact on not only MacFarlane's career but also affect how he made "Family Guy," and it was all about a lady-crazed himbo with a penchant for talking like an Elvis impersonator. That's right, before MacFarlane created hits like "Family Guy" and "American Dad!," he was a writer on the Cartoon Network classic "Johnny Bravo."

"Johnny Bravo" was just one of the best shows during...

Cartoon Network, in its prime, was the king of animated programming. Whether it be Dexter's Lab, Teen Titans, Courage the Cowardly Dog, or Johnny Bravo, everyone had their favorite Cn show growing up. However, one of the riskier shows the network ever made was Ed, Edd n’ Eddy. The series lasted for almost a decade, from 1999 to 2008. Since then, the complete series has been immortalized on DVD. Why A Dexter's Laboratory Segment Was Banned For Nearly Two Decades
Image
The 1990s was a golden age for cartoons. Following the creatively bankrupt string of toy commercials disguised as TV shows of the '80s, we got one phenomenally written, visually inventive, boundary-pushing cartoon after the other in the 1990s. One of the best shows of that decade was "Dexter's Laboratory." Created by maestro Genndy Tartakovsky, the show was the very first Cartoon Cartoons show to be made into a series. It follows the titular Dexter, a boy genius with a skill for engineering who is at constant odds with his older sister Dee Dee, who keeps entering Dexter's secret lab without his permission and interfering with his experiments.

The show was a huge hit, responsible for starting the careers of plenty of veteran animators like Craig McCracken, Rob Renzetti, Seth MacFarlane, and Butch Hartman, who each went on to create successful animated shows of their own. You can see the...

SNL: Timothée Chalamet reprised his rap character (you just didn't see it)
Image
Timothée Chalamet returned to host Saturday Night Live for the third time this weekend, delivering his most impressive performance to date. The show was so jam-packed, his recurring character ended up on the cutting room floor.

Chalamet is in the rare group of SNL hosts that has their own recurring character. In fact, there were two different charactersfChalamet could have revived during his episode. It ended up not being the case as the Oscar-nominated actor had completely new sketches throughout the night.

However, insider info indicates that Chalamet's rap character, SmokeCheddaDaAssGetta, appeared in a dress rehearsal sketch. SNL Fanatic reports a third sketch featuring the SoundCloud rapper was cut for time.

According to the source, "Grammys Roundtable" featured "[Ego] Nwodim as moderator, [Kenan] Thompson as Lionel Richie, [James Austin] Johnson as Bob Dylan, Chalamet as Smokecheda the Assgetta, and [Marcello] Hernandez as a 9-year-old rapper who looks up to Chalamet. Why So Many Cartoon Characters Only Have 4 Fingers
Image
What do Mickey Mouse, Homer Simpson, and SpongeBob SquarePants have in common? Not much, apart from the fact that they're all beloved, easily recognizable cartoon characters. But they also share one design aspect: All of these characters sport four fingers instead of five. Once you notice, you'll never be able to un-see it. This four-fingered cartoon design isn't solely limited to the aforementioned examples, as you'll notice this quirk on most of your favorite animated characters, from everyone in "Dexter's Laboratory" to all humans in "Futurama." In most cases, fewer fingers are generally attributed to anthropomorphic creatures or those who are considered alien to a fictional story's setting.

Why has this design choice become a semi-standard animation practice? Is it simply a by-product of the whimsy that these cartoons embrace, where everything is exaggerated to suit its limitless essence? Let's look at Mickey Mouse as an example, who sports a round,...

The Best Cartoon Network Shows of the 2020s, Ranked
Image
During the latter part of the 20th century, Cartoon Network delivered some amazing kids' shows, including Courage the Cowardly Dog and Dexter's Laboratory. Yet, as the next generation showcased different interests, cartoons seemed to fade into the background. Plus, with the advent of sites like YouTube and TikTok, children can gain access to their favorite content whenever they please.

Yet, Cartoon Network has still managed to remain at the forefront of children's entertainment. While the broadcaster now has a lot more to compete with, it's still able to impress audiences with its assorted collection of animated shows. Thus, it could be argued that Cartoon Network is still as popular in the 2020s as it was in the 1990s.
