Apparently the movie industry should be putting big warnings up on the screen saying:
WARNING: The following movie may contain scenes that are not 100% realistic. If this offends you please stop watching the movie and order the documentary channel.
Think about what you are saying when you complain that this movie is not realistic... do you bitch and whine because the Matrix isn't real? Sit down, shut up and enjoy the movie for what it is... fiction.
I really do like this movie. It makes me miss the 80's, when it was still considered acceptable to be a patriotic American, and movies that glorified America and the military could be made without the felt need to apologize left and right. And of course Clint Eastwood is clever and attractive as always, as the hardcore Marine lifer who's trying to discover his tender side in time to reunite with his ex when he retires.
I also found that his character is his most interesting. A hard, no-nonsense gunnery sergeant who looks for advice in women's magazine is a dream characterization. And the one-liners are perfectly attacked.
I did find Mario Van Peebles character a little annoying, but then I suppose that was the whole point, and it's always good to see Marsha Mason, who I think is totally underrated as a screen actress.
But this is Eastwood's movie, through and through and a real delight. See it, but don't take the ending too seriously.
Directed by and starring Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino), the film also features Marsha Mason (Nick of Time), Everett McGill (Twin Peaks), Moses Gunn (Shaft), Bo Svenson (Kill Bill), and Mario Van Peebles (Baadasssss!).
This film serves as the serious counterpart to Major Payne. Clint Eastwood delivers an outstanding performance with the perfect demeanor, one-liners, and mannerisms, showcasing his comedic prowess and authenticity. The hard demeanor and quick comebacks are tailor-made for Eastwood, establishing the characters brilliantly. Mario Van Peebles delivers a fantastic supporting character that easy to root for and against. The training scenes and fights are a lot of fun. While the war scenes may feel at times unrealistic and excessive, they add a fun dynamic to the storyline, leading to a worthwhile conclusion.
In conclusion, Heartbreak Ridge offers a compelling blend of character development, coming-of-age elements, and brilliant comedy. I'd give it a 7/10 and recommend watching it at least once.

- WissenswertesThe use of a credit card to place a long-distance landline fire support is based on an actual event in the Operation Urgent Fury Grenada action. A U.S. Navy S.E.A.L. rescuing the Governor General placed a calling card call to S.O.C.O.M., which brought an AC-130 gunship to bear on an A.P.C. that was firing on them.
- PatzerIn the beginning of the film, when Highway stands to attention as the colors are being lowered at sunset, the bugle call being played is "Taps". However, the correct call is "Colors". Taps is played later in the evening at Lights Out.

Jail Binger: I don't like soldier boys.
Highway: Say what?
Jail Binger: If you wanna pop that puppy's can you don't have to grease him so hard, jarhead.
Highway: Well, it sounds like you're a man of experience.
Jail Binger: What the hell's that supposed to mean, grunge shit.
Highway: It means: Be advised. I'm mean, nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I can put a round in a flea's ass at 200 meters. So why don't you go hump somebody else's leg, mutt face, before I push yours in.
Jail Binger: Ain't gonna be so smart with your balls stuffed in your mouth, jarhead!
Highway: [hands cigar to the young man] Hang on to this, boy. I think war's just been declared.
- Crazy CreditsThe opening Warner Bros. logo is black and white.
- Alternative VersionenTheatrical version included a scene where Gunny Highway stands in front of one of the Marines at the target practice, forcing him to shoot straight. Reportedly, this scene doesn't appear in the video release.
