Unsichtbare Bedrohung - In the Quarry

This movie is one of my favourites. it explores very deep issues in our societies and the actors did an amazing work! highly recommendable :)

(2019) En el Ozo/ In The Quarry (In Spanish with English subtitles) DRAMA/ PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER

Written and directed by Bernardo Antonaccio and Rafael Antonaccio who was also credited as cinematography. It opens with Martin Tinco (Rafael Beltrán) making out with Alicia/ Ali (Paula Silva) inside of a car, before they return back to their group barbecuing n the desert. And as it turns out, Alicia was two timing her current boyfriend, Bruno (Augusto Gordillo Lisboa) as he was sitting on a folding chair, he decides to get up and take a swim on the lake nearby, she follows right behind him. Viewers then become more accustomed with each of the characters as we know little more about them, as nothing much happens for the entire hour. With the least offensive character throughout the entire movie is Tola (Luis Pazos) he has a girlfriend too, her name was Pao who is at the city and was inticed to join them. Talo also cooks the food and at times acts a medium between Martin Tincho and Bruno the one who shows signs of jealous rage. Leaving with viewers on an ambiguous note.

In the Quarry (2019) is a Uruguay thriller that I recently watched on Prime. The storyline follows a couple that go on a trip to a quarry camping out with some friends. A strange tension forms between the couples until someone snaps and things get out of hand...

This movie is co-written and directed by Rafael and Bernardo Antonaccio in their major motion picture debut. This stars Paula Silva (Ghosting Gloria), Rafael Beltrán (Milonga) and Augusto Gordillo Lisboa.

This is a movie that takes way too long to get going. There storyline just drags and the ending was a let down. The entire film is shot at one location. The first hour of the movie is just swimming and talking; however, when things start happening I was entertained. There are some good scenes with a knife and a solid fishing hook sequence 🎣. Those elements were done well. This does have subtitles.

Overall, this movie drags and takes too long before anything happens. I would score this a 3/10 and recommend skipping it.

So, a woman who is dating a controlling abusive man, and she is having an affair with an old friend. The couple, this man, and a another male who is an old friend of the woman spend the day at a quarry. She shuns her boyfriend. The lover is agitated. Boyfriend seethes. Violence occurs. The woman is helpless. The abuser is insecure. The lover wants to ride in as a White Knight savior. The other friend is texting to get a "hot woman" he wants to have sex with to come to the quarry.

Whew! That's a lot of nothing. I'm not dismissing the need to understand domestic violence and be available to be supportive, take action, protect, etc. This movie unfortunately doesn't add anything new or serious; it simply depicts this dynamic and then creates drama for the sake of the movie. And it takes forever to get there.

Oh and there is some analogy related to turtles that doesn't make any sense I could find. Or maybe it was just a piece of random information that was added to the film. I don't know.

The film is from Uruguay with subtitles, so one can expect to see a film different from most films. Set around a quarry, with a woman and three men out for an afternoon barbecue. The quarry is 10.8 Km from a small town, and is abandoned. All of them used to go to the quarry as children, even if forbidden. Under the surface, there not only is history between them, there are some simmering undercurrents. Things get tense when one dives off a high point into the water, narrowly missing some rebars in the water. The second jumps in, and gets a scrape from the metal rods, which causes some arguments about whether the first person should have known about the hazard. Two of them decide to leave, but the car battery is dead and they can't get it started even pushing it. This is about where the tension and arguments start, but it take almost an hour to get there. One has to wonder if the wait is worth the payoff? Because things start to really explode but do you really care?
