Anthony Mackie Spills the Real Reason He Almost Lost a Film With Jeremy Renner That Wasn’t of MCU
Image
Anthony Mackie has broken his silence on nearly losing The Hurt Locker for a project, which didn’t see the light of day until a decade later. In an episode of Variety’s Know Your Lines, the actor elaborated that his commitment to the ill-fated movie forced him to pull out of the Jeremy Renner-led war thriller at the beginning. Fortunately for Mackie, the next actor who was offered the gig turned it down for budget concerns, leaving the door open for him once again.

Because of that, the movie went over and I had to pull out of ‘Hurt Locker.’ They offered it to somebody else, and he said no because it wasn’t enough money.

And the experience between the two projects couldn’t have been more different for Mackie, as the Kathryn Bigelow movie propelled him to the limelight, while the doomed project didn’t see...

The Peripheral is not returning for a second season on Prime Video after all. Amazon has reversed its renewal due to the work stoppage stemming from the current writers and actors strikes in the industry. Prime Video Cancels The Peripheral and A League of Their Own
Image
Amazon Prime Video has decided to cancel the renewal of The Peripheral and A League of Their Own due to ongoing strikes in Hollywood, causing major production delays. The Peripheral, based on the novel by William Gibson, was a popular series with a 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. The cancelation comes as a surprise. A League of Their Own, based on the movie and a true story, was renewed for a final season with only four episodes for closure, but it has also been canceled. The cancelation may be confusing for fans.

Amazon Prime Video has decided to revert their decision of renewing both of The Peripheral and A League of Their Own due to the current strikes in Hollywood, which would have brought major delays in the production of both series.

Based on the novel by the same name written by William Gibson, The Peripheral premiered on the...

The Peripheral & A League of Their Own Cancelled at Prime video, Reversing Season 2 Renewals
Peripherie (2022)
Despite doing well in its first season, Prime Video has sadly reversed its renewal of The Peripheral.

The change of heart likely stemmed from the dual strikes occurring across the industry.

The series starred Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fischer, a woman who discovered a secret connection to an alternate reality as well as a dark future of her own.

What is one of the first of likely many strike-related cancellations, The Peripheral seemed to fare well on the streamer.

Each week, Twitter would be abuzz with theories and praise for the show, especially for the performances from Moretz and one of the lead antagonists, played by T'Nia Miller.

With the WGA on strike for over 100 days and SAG-AFTRA on strike for over a month, we expect there to be many similar cases of reversals when it comes to renewed series that hadn't already begun production.

There are still...

The Peripheral Season 2 Cancelled 6 Months After Initially Being Renewed By Prime Video
Image
Prime Video has cancelled The Peripheral season 2 despite positive reviews. The cancellation comes just six months after the show was renewed for another season, and sources state it's tied to the ongoing Writer's Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The show's cancellation marks a devastating trend for producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy after Westworld suffered a similar fate.

Despite garnering strong reviews in its debut outing, Prime Video has cancelled The Peripheral season 2. Loosely based on William Gibson's novel of the same name, the sci-fi show centered on a young woman presented with a seemingly new form of virtual reality, only to learn of its dangerous ties to reality and putting her and her family in danger. Chloë Grace Moretz led the star-studded The Peripheral cast alongside Gary Carr, Jack Reynor, JJ Feild, T'Nia Miller, Louis Herthum and Katie Leung.

‘The Peripheral’ Canceled at Prime Video Despite Season 2 Renewal
Peripherie (2022)
Prime Video has canceled “The Peripheral,” despite the Chloë Grace Moretz-led sci-fi series receiving a renewal for a second season in February.

An individual with knowledge of the matter tells TheWrap that the cancelation stems from delays caused by the ongoing Writers’ Guild of America strike, which began on May 2, and SAG-AFTRA strike, which began on July 14. The individual noted that the series was originally intended to go into production this year for a release in 2024.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by William Gibson, the series hailed from “Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s Kilter Films banner, who are under an overall deal at Amazon Studios. “The Peripheral” follows Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. ‘The Peripheral’ Canceled at Amazon Despite Season 2 Renewal
Image
“The Peripheral” has been canceled at Amazon’s Prime Video, Variety has learned.

The news comes despite the fact that Amazon renewed the show for a second season back in February. The series, based on the William Gibson novel of the same name, debuted on Amazon on Oct. 21, 2022.

It starred Chloë Grace Moretz and hailed from executive producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan under their rich overall deal with Amazon. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the decision to not move forward with the second season was heavily influenced by the ongoing writers and actors strikes. In essence, even if the show was to go back into production soon, Season 2 would not be available until close to if not into 2025.

Per the official logline, the series “centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America.

‘The Peripheral’ Canceled; Prime Video Not Proceeding With Season 2 Amid Lengthy Strikes
Image
Exclusive: Prime Video will not be going forward with the previously ordered second season of its sci-fi drama series The Peripheral, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Deadline has learned.

I hear The Peripheral is not the only Amazon scripted series whose renewal has been rescinded and there is at least one other series that won’t go to a second season.

According to sources, the cancellation stems from the length of the work stoppage due to the ongoing WGA strike, now in its 109th day, and the SAG-AFTRA strike, in Day 36, which have delayed production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.

While this is the first known case of a renewal reversal amid the current strike, as Deadline reported earlier this week, there may be more series whose renewals could be rescinded or pending pickups not happen if the work stoppage stretches past Labor Day,...

Jonathan Nolan in Person of Interest (2011)
Researching Time Travel for ‘Interstellar’ Helped Prepare Jonathan Nolan for Prime Video Series ‘The Peripheral’
Jonathan Nolan in Person of Interest (2011)
When it comes to tackling time travel on the big screen, one could say Jonathan Nolan is something of an expert. The “Dark Knight” screenwriter spent years researching the practicalities of time travel for his 2014 film “Interstellar” (directed by his brother Christopher Nolan), to the point that he became something of an expert on the subject through the project’s lengthy development.

Which is why, when he read William Gibson’s 2014 book “The Peripheral,” Nolan was both excited and annoyed.

The story, which is now a Prime Video series produced by Nolan, concerns a young woman living in near-future America named Flynne Fisher (Chloe Grace Moretz) who, when plugged into an Ar device that looks like a video game, is able to transfer the data of her mind to a distant post-apocalyptic future and pilot a host robot body.

“It was galling, because I spent a lot of time for [‘Interstellar’] thinking about time travel,...

Flynne's Illness In The Peripheral Could Be Aelita's Fault
Image
Warning: spoilers ahead for The Peripheral episodes 5 and 6.

Amazon's The Peripheral episodes 5 and 6 set up Flynne Fisher's (Chloë Grace Moretz) illness to be Aelita's (Charlotte Riley) fault after their heist at Dr. Cherise Nuland's (T'Nia Miller) Research Institute. Aelita forces Flynne to steal data from the Research Institute by having the Peripheral she is piloting interface with the God Font. Unfortunately for Flynne, Dr. Nuland's right-hand man, Daniel (David Hoflin), arrives and destroys the Peripheral as Aelita makes her getaway.

While at first it seems Flynne's use of the headset to travel to the future is causing her illness, not only is Flynne's illness determined to be an infection of her occipital lobe, the part of the eye used for seeing, but also Gary Carr's Wilf Netherton assures Flynne that Peripheral usage could not induce the sort of side effects that Flynne is experiencing. Wilf and his employer, Lev...

The Peripheral Creates A Flynne Fisher Love Triangle (But Is It Real?)
Image
Warning: spoilers ahead for The Peripheral episode 6.

In typical The Peripheral style, Flynne Fisher's love triangle is more complex than a standard three-way love story, with question marks over whether her emotions are even real. From the very beginning, The Peripheral made little attempt to hide how Chloë Grace Moretz's Flynne Fisher felt about local police officer and former schoolmate Tommy Constantine, played by Alex Hernandez. Quietly pining from afar, Flynne blurred the lines of creepiness by picking Tommy's wedding cake figurine out of a trash can. Since visiting the future, however, Flynne has rapidly developed feelings for Gary Carr's Wilf Netherton - a handsome and mysterious stranger with a kind heart.

Any ordinary love triangle is complicated enough, but with The Peripheral introducing dual timelines and mind-altering technology into the mix, Flynne's situation becomes even more devilish to navigate. Flynne has fallen for Wilf very quickly, leading...

Where to Watch The Peripheral
Image
If you're at all interested in sci-fi or, say, the future of humanity, you'll want to find out where to watch The Peripheral. We’ve all heard the expression “the future is now,” but when a young woman in the year 2032 plays a prototype "Sim" virtual reality game, her glimpse into a future world may be more reality than virtual. Based on the 2014 novel by William Gibson, The Peripheral came to uncanny life with its first season on October 21st. Pop some popcorn and get ready for a different type of eerie seasonal thriller, where the spine-chilling shivers don’t come from witches and ghosts, but from a peek into what could very well be our own future, where advancing technology profoundly affects daily life and human nature itself.

The new SciFi series comes to fans of the dystopian future genre from the executive producers of Westworld and stars Chloë Grace Mortez as Flynne Fisher,...

Why Flynne Gets Side Effects In The Peripheral (But No One Else)
Image
Warning! Spoilers for The Peripheral season 1.

Amazon Prime's The Peripheral is a new sci-fi series starring Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fisher, a young woman who travels to Earth's dark future by inhabiting a robot, the titular Peripheral - though only she appears to get side effects from this. In London circa 2100, Flynne becomes embroiled in the conflicting interests of Lev Zubov, (JJ Feild), Wilf Netherton (Gary Carr), Dr. Nuland (T'Nia Miller), and the Research Institute, all of whom are searching for a mysterious woman named Aelita West (Charlotte Riley). Aelita, who had been working for Lev, provides Flynne with the means to travel to the future via Peripheral and was collecting information from the Research Institute prior to her disappearance.

Because Aelita went back in time to make contact with Flynne, The Peripheral is split between Aelita's timeline and the "stub" - Flynne's timeline, which was created due to Aelita's interference.

The Peripheral Episode 3’s Clock Twist Was Hidden In Plain Sight
Image
The Peripheral episode 3's grandfather clock password leaps from left field, but the twist is cleverly foreshadowed. The final sequence of The Peripheral episode 3, "Haptic Drift," sees Chloë Grace Moretz's Flynne Fisher and Gary Carr's Wolf/Wilf Netherton explore the missing Aelita's abandoned hideout. Flynne notices an anachronistic stopped grandfather clock exactly the same as her own back in 2032, except the Fisher house's clock is stuck at 2:15. When Wilf turns the hands of Aelita's version to the same time, a hidden doorway opens. If only all passwords of far-future revolutionaries were so easy to decipher, the Research Institute may not be chasing Flynne all across 2100 London.

While Aelita using Flynne's broken clock as her super-secret code may seem an overly convenient way for The Peripheral to maneuver its protagonists into position for episode 3's final battle, "Haptic Drift" sets up this twist far in advance. As Wilf...
