Joshua Odjick, Cooper Hoffman, Ben Wang, Charlie Plummer, and David Jonsson in The Long Walk (2025)
The Long Walk is one of Stephen King‘s most harrowing books, and the upcoming film adaptation doesn’t seem to be shying away from the intensity with its “R” rating from the MPA.

The Long Walk is rated “R” for “strong bloody violence, grisly images, suicide, pervasive language, and sexual references.”

Based on King’s 1979 dystopian novel of the same name, the film arrives in theaters on September 12 from Lionsgate.

The story follows Raymond Garraty, a 16-year old who takes part in an annual contest in which 100 teens must journey, nonstop and under strict rules, until only one is left alive.

Francis Lawrence directs from a script by Jt Mollner (Strange Darling).

Darren Aronofsky at an event for 2009 Golden Globe Awards (2009)
Darren Aronofsky’s crime caper Caught Stealing is set to reach theatres on August 29th, with Francis Lawrence’s intense Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk following on September 12th and Scott Derrickson’s sequel to his Joe Hill adaptation The Black Phone (a sequel simply titled Black Phone 2) dropping on October 17th – and today, we have learned that the Motion Picture Association ratings board has given all three of these movies R ratings!

Directed by Aronofsky from a screenplay by Charlie Huston, who is also the author of the book that the movie is based on, Caught Stealing has the following synopsis: Hank Thompson (Austin Butler) was a high-school baseball phenom who can’t play anymore, but everything else is going okay. He’s got a great girl (Zoë Kravitz), tends bar at a New York dive, and his favorite team is making an underdog run at the pennant.

‘Hunger Games’ Star Josh Hutcherson Talks Possible ‘Sunrise on the Reaping' Role
Image
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence last played the fan-favorite characters Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen, respectively, in 2015’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 2. Seriously, where does the time go? Anyway, since then, The Hunger Games movie franchise has only expanded, spawning two prequels: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023), which centers on a young President Snow before he rose to power, and now, Sunrise of the Reaping, which will follow a 16-year-old Haymitch as he prepares to fight in the second Quarter Quell. With a star-studded cast confirmed for Sunrise of the Reaping, which is set to hit theaters in November 2026, rumors of a certain Hunger Games alum returning to make a surprise cameo in the upcoming sequel have been circulating online for quite a while now. But could there be some truth to these rumors?...

Mark Hamill Plays His Most Evil Character Yet in New Stephen King Film: 'Unlike Anything I've Done'
Image
Mark Hamill rose to fame with his performance as the heroic Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but his newest role takes the actor to the other end of the spectrum. He plays the villain in The Long Walk, a new dystopian horror film based on a Stephen King story that's coming to theaters on Sept. 12.

Per DiscussingFilm, Hamill was present at San Diego Comic-Con to help promote the film. He spoke about the dark nature of his "sadistic character," referred to in the story as the Major. While Hamill has voiced the Joker for many DC projects, he still feels like playing the Major was very dark in its own way, and that even attracted the actor to the role in the first place.

Mark Hamill tells us about playing potentially the most villainous character of his career in ‘The Long WALK’:“He’s sadistic and all those terrible things.

One of the Best Stephen King Adaptations of the Decade Is Finally on Digital
Image
Mike Flanagan has reshaped Stephen King adaptations over the past decade withGerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep — and The Life of Chuck may be his most profound achievement yet. The film is now landing on digital platforms starting July 29.

It’s a genre-bending drama that isn't your typical King horror tale. Instead, it’s a deeply human story about love, loss, memory, and what it takes to live a meaningful life. Told in reverse, the film starts at the end of Chuck Krantz’s existence as the world collapses around him, and works its way back to his childhood. It's meditative, surreal, and emotionally shattering in all the right ways. The Life of Chuck will be available to rent or own on digital platforms starting July 29, 2025, with a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release following on September 30. The home release comes packed with exclusive extras: a behind-the-scenes featurette, interviews with starsTom Hiddleston,...

‘The Long Walk’ Marches Into Comic-Con With New Trailer, Harrowing Footage
Image
Lionsgate’s The Long Walk marched into Hall H with a mission: to make a tough subject matter too enticing to resist.

The Comic-Con panel not only revealed the newest trailer for the adaptation of the Stephen King novel, that has at its heart a downer of a conceit, but it also showed the first 22 minutes of the movie. The story focuses on an annual contest in which 100 teen boys set out on the titular journey under the watchful eye of hard-driving army commander played by Mark Hamill. The walk ends with just a single survivor.

The assembled crowd of over 6,500 fans was given plenty of warning from the moderators that the some scenes may not be suited for all audiences, on top of the usual warnings of curse words. How intense was the open section? Well, the audience never truly found out because the scene showing the first death was blacked out.

Mark Hamill Almost Retired From Acting Before ‘The Long Walk’: ‘I Said to My Agent, “I’m Not Motivated Anymore”’
Image
The first 22 minutes of the Stephen King adaptation “The Long Walk” debuted at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, following the debut of the new red-band trailer and a panel featuring the cast, including Mark Hamill, David Jonsson (“Alien: Romulus”), Tut Nyuot and Garrett Wareing (“Manifest”).

The film is adapted from King’s 1979 novel (first written when he was 19!), set in an authoritarian America in which 50 young adult men join a televised contest to walk continuously at a pace of at least three miles per hour — or they’ll be killed. Hamill plays a man only known as the Major, the military commander who oversees the Walk and gives the walkers their literal marching orders. In the panel, Hamill said that when director Francis Lawrence approached him about playing the part, it immediately evoked his teenage years in Japan, where he went to school next to a U.S. military base.

"It Has Teeth:" New Stephen King Survival Thriller Didn't Tone Down The Book's Bleak Nature, Says Writer
Image
The movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk will reportedly not be toned down for the big screen, staying true to the King of Horror's bleak foray into dystopian fiction. Published in 1979 under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Long Walk has been in development for decades, and is finally making it to movie theaters on Sept. 11, 2025.

The Long Walk depicts a group of teenage boys who participate in the titular competition and must walk as long as they can, as they will be killed if they fail to keep pace; this goes on until there is only one left standing. Thus, it is certainly a dark and disturbing book, but this has not always remained the case with movies adapted from such source material.

However, while The Long Walk movie is not yet officially rated, it seems to be leaning towards an R rating. At the movie's panel...

Stephen King’s ‘The Long Walk’ Gets Tense New Trailer as the Game Begins
Image
The latest trailer for Stephen King’s “The Long Walk” has the 50 contestants struggling to find meaning for why they compete.

The film follows 50 boys from around the country who are selected (or volunteer) to compete in the annual Long Walk. The rules are simple: keep up a pace of 3 miles per hour and you’re good, slow down enough to get three warnings and you “punch your ticket” — aka, get killed. The killing happens right on the road as the rest of the contestants have to keep walking until there is only one left.

“I keep hoping that part gets easier,” Pete McVries (David Jonsson) says in Friday’s trailer after a kid is taken out. “That’s what I’m afraid of,” Ray Garraty (Cooper Hoffman) responds.

The Walk takes place in a vaguely dystopian version of America. Most things are as normal as expected, but the event...

Lionsgate Screens First 20 Minutes Of ‘The Long Walk’ And Debuts New Trailer At Comic-Con; “We Were Able To Keep The Teeth” Screenwriter Says
Image
It’s time for marching orders. Lionsgate dropped a new trailer for The Long Walk today during the pic’s Hall H San Diego Comic-Con presentation Friday. Author of the novel that inspired the film Stephen King introduced the clip via video message, alluding to the Vietnam War and drawing attention to how this story came out long before The Hunger Games and Squid Game.

“It’s got some hard bark on it,” King added of the adaptation.

Based on King’s 1979 dystopian horror novel of the same name, The Long Walk takes place in a disillusioned America that is entertained by a competition called The Long Walk— a challenge in which 50 teenage boys walk continuously without rest. As the journey continues, each competitor must keep walking faster than three miles per hour nonstop or risk being killed. The last boy remaining will earn a prize of their choosing.

Stephen King Was Very Involved In The Casting For New Survival Thriller After 3 Failed Attempts
Image
At San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that Stephen King was very involved in the casting behind The Long Walk. The story is a dystopian novel that King originally published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. It focuses on the story of a group of boys made to participate in a competition called The Long Walk, where they must continuously walk or risk being shot.

Over the years, The Long Walk has gone through multiple adaptation attempts. First, Night of the Living Deaddirector George A. Romero was approached to direct a version of the book, but that never came to fruition. Over 15 years went by before the rights were secured by Frank Darabont in 2007.

Darabont's rights eventually lapsed when his project never came to fruition, and control over the story went to New Line Cinema in 2018. New Line even announced a director in 2019, marking the third attempt to make the film.

Stephen King at an event for Der Manchurian Kandidat (2004)
The first 22 minutes of The Long Walk were screened at Comic-Con, plus a new trailer has dropped online
Stephen King at an event for Der Manchurian Kandidat (2004)
Last year, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Long Walk (which was, like The Running Man and Thinner, published under the pen name Richard Bachman) went into production, with director Francis Lawrence, whose previous credits include Constantine, I Am Legend, Water for Elephants, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2, Red Sparrow, Slumberland, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, at the helm. Lionsgate will be releasing the film on September 12th – and today, the film was promoted with a panel at San Diego Comic-Con! Although a trailer was just recently released , Sdcc attendees got to see a new trailer, which was introduced by a video of Stephen King (he’s not at Sdcc). JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said it’s a “very cool trailer, has the shocking image of seeing Mark Hamill use the F-word. Does a good job...

The Karate Kid is an ’80s icon. It was an underdog story which used the burgeoning martial arts movement in the US to capture the fight to survive adolescence and enchant the imagination of a generation.

We love The Karate Kid here on HeyUGuys, and recently looked back at the franchise as it endured through the decades, with sequels, a reboot and a stunningly successful TV show in Cobra Kai. With this year’s release of Karate Kid: Legends the stage has been set for a new generation. Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han teams up with the original Karate Kid Daniel Larusso (a welcome return to the big screen for Ralph Macchio) to blend their distinctive styles to guide Ben Wang’s Li Fong in a combative, coming of age blockbuster.

As the Home Premiere of Karate Kid: Legends has arrived there has never been a better time to dive...

How To Watch Karate Kid: Legends At Home
Image
"Karate Kid: Legends" is a legacy sequel that bridges the gap between the most disparate corners of the franchise. The film follows O.G. star Daniel LuRusso (Ralph Macchio) and the sensei from the 2010 "Karate Kid" reboot, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), as they combine their veteran expertise in kung fu and karate to prepare young Li Fong (Ben Wang) for the ultimate martial arts competition. The film offers a prototypical "Karate Kid" story about a young underdog having to overcome the odds, and it's entertaining viewing if you're a fan of flicks of this ilk.

Unfortunately, "Karate Kid: Legends" wasn't a mammoth box office success, earning just $104 million on the back of a $45 million budget. This suggests that the millions of fans who discovered the property through Netflix's hugely successful "Cobra Kai" spin-off series weren't as excited about a new movie set in this universe. However, some viewers will...

‘Karate Kid: Legends’ Crosses Global Box Office Milestone After Serious Struggles Connecting With Audiences
Image
It's probably not a great sign when a franchise movie grosses less than a third at the box office than its predecessor, but that's unfortunately the fate that has befallen Sony's Karate Kid: Legends. Even as the studio enjoys the success of Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later, which is only a week old and already the highest-grossing installment of the series, Karate Kid: Legends is hobbling towards the finish line with a smaller haul. The movie didn't even come close to challenging the 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. But ahead of its digital debut, the film passed its first (and what will likely be its final) global box office milestone.

With around $51 million each domestically and from overseas markets, the movie's cumulative global haul now stands at $102 million. The good news is that it costs only around $45 million to produce, which means that it's probably already profitable,...

Cobra Kai Fans React To Mr. Miyagi Spinoff
Image
Netflix’s Cobra Kai might have ended after 6 seasons, but that doesn’t mean the dojo doors are closed for good, especially not when there’s still so much untapped potential in the Karate Kid universe. We’re bound to see Daniel Larusso, Johnny Lawrence and, maybe even, Mr. Miyagi again somewhere down the line. Now, a new poster for a Netflix spin-off based on Mr Miyagi is making the rounds on social media, and fans are super hyped for the origin story. Now, before you get too hyped, let’s clear something up. No, Netflix hasn’t officially greenlit a Mr. Miyagi spinoff. The viral poster doing the rounds is total fan-made fakery. Yet that hasn’t stopped Cobra Kai fans from begging Netflix to make it. And maybe the idea isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds. Just a few weeks ago, actor Shiro Nobunaga revealed on social...

Ralph Macchio Had One Big Request For Karate Kid: Legends
Image
"Karate Kid: Legends" is a whole lot of movie. More specifically , this "Karate Kid" legacy sequel is two different movies awkwardly stitched together. Directed by John Entwistle, "Legends" serves as a sequel to both the 1984 "The Karate Kid" and the 2010 reboot/remake of the same name starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

In "Legends," the new "karate kid" is not actually a complete underdog; in fact, he has a lot of experience in kung fu. Ben Wang stars as Li Fong, who moves from the big city to a smaller place, gets a crush on a girl, and makes an enemy out of her violent karate-enthusiast ex-boyfriend. Except, there's more to this movie than that, and that includes a bizarre subplot about Li coaching his new girlfriend's dad to utilize kung fu in a boxing match.

Of course, Li also enters a karate tournament himself because it wouldn't be a "Karate Kid" movie without one.
