Disney “10 Things I Hate About You”

only Adapting William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” in a 1990s schoolyard setting, the Julia Stiles/Heath Ledger-starring “10 Things I Hate About You” is a gold standard for teenage rom coms. Only four years in the wake of “Clueless” — a megahit modern-day update of Jane Austen’s “Emma” — it would be easy for a movie like this to feel like derivative old news.

Yet the film carries an infectious energy from moment one, mixing bursts of Shakespeare-like language with more modern parlance.

Action films, like horror movies, run the risk of becoming weary, predictable, and hollow. Both genres are popular among mainstream audiences, leading to saturated markets and orders to follow strict formulas that executives know will guarantee ticket sales. Instead of the jump-scares, teen protagonists, and haunted houses, we find in horror, action flicks are required to feature fight sequences, weapons, and quick-cut editing that speeds the pace along.

On surface level, the John Wick franchise looks like another run-of-the-mill action series that blends into the background: fights, guns, explosions, and arrogant baddies reeling off long speeches before defeat. A retired hit-man returns to take revenge? It’s not a new plot-line, but director Chad Stahelski makes it feel like it with his singular revitalization of the worn-out genre.

It appears Hulu is ready to go out with a bang, days after a Disney merger announcement confirmed the streaming service will soon be no more. The platform shoots for increased viewership thanks to the beloved action franchise, John Wick, which is set for an imminent debut.

Collider is thrilled to partner with WellGO USA Entertainment to exclusively preview the first official trailer for Prisoner of War, the upcoming period action film that will be released in limited theaters and on VOD on September 19. This trailer helps kick off San Diego Comic-Con as part of the Kung-Fu Extravaganza panel. Louis Mandylor (Rambo: Last Blood) directed Prisoner of War with a script from Peter Shinkoda, Michael Copon, and star Scott Adkins. Shinkoda is known for his work on Marvel’s Daredevil, and Copon previously wrote episodes of One Tree Hill.

Although John Wick fans may have a bit of time to wait until the fifth installment of the gun-fu movie makes its way to the big screen, there is hope on the horizon. As fans of the franchise, we know how difficult it can be to have your very own binge-a-thon at home from one streamer alone, as — typically speaking — the four installments are usually spread out over a variety of platforms. However, that won’t be the case come August when all four chapters of the Keanu Reeves-led films punch and kick their way onto Hulu. Beginning on August 15, first-timers and rewatchers alike can lock themselves in a room and watch the movies from top to bottom when they land on the streamer.

Drawn back into the world of contract killing after his retirement when someone kills his puppy, John Wick is almost a superhero in his abilities to absolutely decimate the competition. Back in 2014, the character debuted in his first movie, which introduced Keanu Reeves as an aggrieved former hitman who sets out on a blood-drenched quest for revenge after the son of a crime boss breaks into his home and kills John's new puppy. That's enough to send anyone into a blind rage, but Reeves' character took his time, unearthing his weapons from beneath concrete in a sledgehammer scene that saw the actor take a surprisingly method approach, before tracking down everyone responsible for the poor pup's death. Only after this did he let his aggression out, laying waste to 77 people across the film's runtime, before finally offing Michael Nyqvist's Russian crime lord Viggo Tarasov in a satisfying conclusion that underlined the myth of John Wick in the public consciousness.

Kyle Loftus has been named President of Independent Artist Group, the agency announced on Wednesday.

After a tremendously difficult production that reportedly saw a significant chunk of it being retooled, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina debuted theatrically last week, only to go from the frying pan into the fire. The movie opened in the wake of two major releases, Disney's Lilo & Stitch remake and Paramount's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which certainly took the wind out of its sails. Ballerina underperformed in its first weekend of release, both domestically and worldwide. However, the action movie has already outperformed several comparable titles, such as three major Jason Statham films — Crank, The Transporter, and Expend4bles. More recently, the movie surpassed the lifetime global box office haul of Statham's largely forgotten 2013 release, Homefront.

Directed by Gary Fleder, the movie also featured James Franco, Winona Ryder, and Kate Bosworth. Homefront ended its run with $51 million at the worldwide box office, and earned a so-so 42% Rotten Tomatoes score.

The summer movie season of 2025 has been fruitful thus far, with movies like "Final Destination Bloodlines," "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning," and "Lilo & Stitch" bringing out patrons en masse to multiplexes all around the world. Just because a movie or show is spun off from a hit doesn’t mean it will stand on its own. This is the case with pretty much everything that is linked to John Wick. We saw it over the weekend with Ballerina – which seriously underperformed at the box office – and we saw it with TV series The Continental. And while John Wick franchise head Chad Stahelski still has faith in Ballerina as a producer, he continues to look down upon The Continental.

Chad Stahelski recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter for an extensive interview in which he discussed not only the John Wick movies but the multiple spin-offs that have been out and are in the works. One of the key takeaways that that he says those who actually worked on The Continental just assumed that because it was a John Wick spin-off that it would be a hit.

Ballerina director Len Wiseman shared one of his original ideas for the John Wick spinoff’s ending sequences, which would have introduced another character. The filmmaker is no stranger to the action genre, after previously directing two Underworld movies, 2007’s Live Free or Die Hard, and 2012’s Total Recall.

During a recent interview with EW, Wiseman opened up about his alternate ending idea, which involves Eve’s supposedly dead mother. This scrapped ending’s surprising twist will not only reveal that Eve’s mother was alive all along, but it would have also shown Eve’s mother as the one who ordered the hit on her.
