Much like the mysterious characters’ laborious attempts to create living beings from dead flesh, “The Frankenstein Chronicles” had a long journey to American audiences. Acquired by A&E in 2015 to bolster its fledgling scripted originals programming, the Sean Bean-starring period drama never made it to the Arts & Entertainment network. Despite success with “Bates Motel,” the cable network couldn’t break through the peak TV pack with anything other than reality television (long live “Storage Wars”), so it scrapped the written word and moved on from such “Chronicles.”

But “Frankenstein” refused to die. The first season was met with strong reviews in the United Kingdom, airing on ITV’s Encore station, and was renewed for a second six-episode run. That much content cannot be ignored in today’s buyer’s market, especially with Bean’s internationally known mug leading both seasons. A&E will offer a Stateside home to The Frankenstein Chronicles, a six-episode period mystery/crime drama commissioned by the UK’s ITV and produced by Rainmark Films.

Set in 1827 London, the miniseries follows Inspector John Marlott (Legends‘ Sean Bean) as he makes the horrific discovery that a child’s corpse is actually a grotesque assembly of human body parts.

Marlott commences a hunt for the person behind this abomination, taking him into the dark corners of Georgian London, an underworld of prostitution, drug smuggling, body-snatching, murder for profit and other vices.

Who doesn't adore Julianne Moore?

Especially in Still Alice, the film for which bookmakers are betting she'll take home the Best Actress Oscar, Moore's portrayal of a linguistics professor battling early onset Alzheimer's is letter perfect. Myself having a sibling now encased in a memory care facility in Florida after being ravaged by the same affliction, every step of Alice's deterioration is recognizable: the random loss of memories, the awareness she's losing her identity, the outbursts of anger, the inability to control bodily functions, and the short-lived moments when the person you have always loved reemerges out of a fog of despair.

Sadly, Moore's performance and that of her peers in Seventh Son capture a forgetfulness, too, although not one symptomatic of an infirmity, but one characteristic of creative bankruptcy. "The Wolf of Wall Street" actress Margot Robbie is poised to play Marisa Lankester in the upcoming "Dangerous Odds" which Andrea Berloff is adapting the script for.

Ben-Hur

Moises Arias ("The Kings of Summer") has joined the cast of Timur Bekmambetov's historical epic "Ben-Hur" at MGM and Paramount Pictures. Jack Huston, Morgan Freeman, and Toby Kebbell also star in the film which begins shooting shortly in Europe.

Arias will play Gestas, a teenage Jewish zealot whose family has been murdered by the Romans, who is desperate to fight for his people’s freedom. [Source: THR]

The cast of ITV's The Frankenstein Chronicles has been announced.

Sean Bean will star as Inspector John Marlott, who will pursue a terrifying foe through 1827 London, in what is described as a mix of the investigative and horror genres.

Joining Bean is Game of Thrones star Kate Dickie, who played Lysa Arryn on the HBO show.

The six-part period drama sees Marlott recruited by Home Secretary Robert Peel after an assembly of body parts is discovered, arranged in a bizarre attempt at a human form.

He soon finds himself tracking down a dangerous and unhinged killer.

Also appearing in the series will be Snatch star Robbie Gee, Cilla's Ed Stoppard, Anna Maxwell Martin, Charlie Creed-Miles, Elliot Cowan, Hugh O'Conor, Joe Tucker, Lalor Roddy, Patrick Fitzsymons, Richie Campbell, Ryan Sampson, Samuel West, Shaun Mason, Steve Wilson, Steven Berkoff, Stuart Graham, Tom Ward and Vanessa Kirby.

PBS is to air BBC One's upcoming drama Death Comes to Pemberley.

Doctor Who actress Jenna Coleman will star in the adaptation of Pd James's novel, which brings back characters from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

In three one-hour episodes, the drama will be a combination of Austen's story and a murder mystery.

Matthew Rhys will play Mr Darcy, while Matthew Goode portrays Mr Wickham. Coleman stars as Lydia Wickham.

A broadcast date has yet to be revealed, but it will air as part of PBS's Masterpiece lineup. Downton Abbey has previously aired on the network.

Penelope Keith, Matthew Goode, Tom Ward, Joanna Scanlan, Trevor Eve and James Fleet are also in the cast, which is currently filming in Yorkshire.

Matthew Rhys stars as Mr Darcy in the drama, while Anna Maxwell Martin is cast as Elizabeth.

The all-star casting of BBC One's "Death Comes to Pemberley" mini-series continues. Jenna-Louise Coleman, best known to American audiences as Clara, the Doctor's most recent companion on "Doctor Who."

According to Deadline, Coleman will play the part of Lydia Wickham, the youngest sister of "Pride and Prejudice" heroine Elizabeth Bennet (played by Anna Maxwell Martin in this adaptation). The story of this three-part suspense serial is based on a P.D. James novel, which in turn derives from the Jane Austen classic novel. Set six years after the end of "Pride and Prejudice," the action begins when Lydia and her husband George Wickham (Matthew Goode) arrive at the Pemberley estate owned by Elizabeth and her husband, Fitzwilliam Darcy (Matthew Rhys, "The Americans").

Instead of the planned annual ball, a murder investigation -- with Lydia at the center of it -- unfolds.

This mini-series will be filmed in Yorkshire (all the better to resemble "Downton Abbey!

Doctor Who's Jenna-Louise Coleman is among the list of stars who have been added to BBC One's new period drama Death Comes To Pemberley.

Coleman will star as Lydia Wickham in Juliette Towhidi's Pd James adaptation, joining last week's lead cast announcements of Anna Maxwell Martin (Elizabeth), Matthew Rhys (Darcy) and Matthew Goode (Wickham).

The three-part series is set six years after the events of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and centres around a murder mystery plot.

Other additions to the cast include Trevor Eve as Sir Selwyn Hardcastle, Rebecca Front as Mrs Bennett, James Fleet as Mr Bennett and Penelope Keith as Lady Catherine de Burgh.

Joanna Scanlan (Mrs Reynolds), Tom Ward (Colonel Fitzwilliam), Eleanor Tomlinson (Georgiana Darcy) and James Norton (Mr Alveston) have also signed up.

Shooting starts later this month in Yorkshire and the series will be directed by Daniel Percival.

13 year Ellie Darcey-Alden (represented by A&J Management) is joined by her younger brother Joe as they both star in this year's Doctor Who Christmas Special, The Snowmen.

They play Francesca and Digby, the two charges of a young governess, Clara, played by the soon-to-be new Doctor Who companion Jenna Louise Coleman.
