‘Pack a snack!’ Jessica Williams gives advice to first-time Emmy nominee Harrison Ford, teases ‘Shrinking’ Season 3 guest stars
Image
Jessica Williams is an Emmy veteran, having attended the ceremony with The Daily Show and as a nominee for Shrinking. So, what advice would she give to her 83-year-old costar Harrison Ford, a first-time nominee this year?

"Pack a snack!"

As she tells Gold Derby, "I'm always hungry," and the three-hour ceremony tends to make her "a bit peckish." The Best Comedy Supporting Actress nominee is "really looking forward to seeing him and hopefully [his wife] Calista Flockhart" at the Emmys this year. Williams and Ford number among Shrinking's seven nominations, with the others being Best Comedy Series, Jason Segel in lead, Michael Urie in supporting, casting, and sound mixing.

Williams plays Gaby Evans, a therapist working with Segel's Jimmy and Ford's Paul, in the Apple TV+ comedy series. "There's so much I like about playing her," the actress explains about her character. "She's very warm. She keeps me on my toes.

‘Shrinking’ Boss Reveals What It’s Like Writing Lines for Harrison Ford
Image
When Bill Lawrence and his Shrinking co-creators were writing the show’s second season, they knew that casting the part of Louis — the drunk driver who killed the wife of Jason Segel’s Jimmy — was going to be extremely difficult. Segel suggested tapping Brett Goldstein, but Lawrence was resistant. “I kept thinking, ‘He’s known as [Ted Lasso’s] Roy Kent, and he’s too gruff,’ ” says the showrunner. He eventually agreed to let Goldstein take on the role on one condition: that he shave his signature facial hair to make the character, a pivotal element of the season-two plotline, more vulnerable. “I called Brett up

and said, ‘If you think you can do this, you should, but if you screw it up, you’re going to ruin the show and it’s going to get canceled,’ ” Lawrence recalls with a laugh. “In the end I thought he just killed it, and I was so proud of him,...

5 Sitcoms on Which the Same Actor Played Multiple Roles
Image
Some sitcom producers play favorites. How else to explain why they would hire the same actor two, three or four times to play multiple parts on their TV comedies?

For reasons the world can’t quite fathom, here are five sitcoms that cast the same actor to play different parts on the same show. As If We Wouldn’T Notice.

1 Two and a Half Men

The hilarious Judy Greer played three different characters on the show: Walden’s ex-wife Bridget; Herb Melnick’s little sister Myra; and Danny, a lesbian who Walden tries to pick up. At least the physical resemblance explains both his attraction and the duplicate roles.

But Chuck Lorre wasn’t done with his lazy casting. I like Jennifer Taylor as much as the next guy, but Lorre cast her in four different parts —Charlie’s ex-fiancee Chelsea; Suzanne, who flirts with Charlie in a grocery store; Tina,...

'Shrinking' Star, 44, Reveals Season 3 Is Closer Than You Think
Image
The cast of AppleTV+'s comedy show Shrinking had plenty to celebrate recently as the show scored a whopping seven Emmy nominations, with four recognizing its stellar performers. As it turns out, those celebrations were even merrier as the Emmy announcements coincided with the final days of filming for Season 3, as revealed by one of the nominees, Michael Urie (who plays Brian), via a social media post. Filming began in mid-February, and in May, a new set of cast additions were revealed, which, surprisingly, included the legendary Michael J. Fox in what will be his first role in five years. The new cast additions also include Isabella Gomez, Sherry Cola, Jeff Daniels, and more. With filming now wrapped, it won't be long before fans get to see the old and new cast in action when Shrinking returns for its third season.

15 TV Shows to Watch If You Loved “The Bear” on Hulu
Image
Season 4 of The Bear just dropped, and whew, Carmy might finally be learning that running a restaurant isn’t a solo sport (or a daily anxiety spiral). Sydney’s cooking up more than just potential, Ebra’s turning the takeout window into a one-man empire, and the guest stars are less “look who we booked!” and more “oh hey, that really works.”

Sure, the show’s still yelling, stressing, and moodily slicing herbs in silence, but at least it’s making progress. There’s still trauma, tension, and timers ticking, but The Bear might be inching toward a kitchen that runs on collaboration instead of Carmy’s emotional damage.

And if you’ve devoured this season like a perfectly toasted beef sandwich and still want more, more chaos, more found family, more characters barely holding it together, then congratulations, chef. These 15 TV shows are your next course. They’ve got the flavor,...

‘Shrinking’ EP Promises New & Returning Character Arcs Ahead of Season 3
Image
Only a day after the sophomore season of this Apple TV+ comedy hit, Shrinking, premiered, a third chapter was ordered, which began filming in mid-February of this year. Production has nearly wrapped, but unfortunately, no arrival date is set. Nevertheless, fans can expect their favorites to return to small screens soon, as co-creator Bill Lawrence recently shared details about Shrinking Season 3’s characters, both new and returning ones, including fellow creator Brett Goldstein's Louis.

Shrinking Season 3 will be centered on the characters’ moving forward, following previous runs focused on grief and forgiveness. As confirmed by Lawrence, Goldstein’s Louis will reappear in multiple episodes of the new chapter, showing him "moving forward" in his own life. The EP explained:

And the Emmy Nominations Should Go to…
Image
The key races for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards couldn’t be more different.

The comedy categories appear to be heading for another showdown between The Bear — once again prompting an obligatory “Is it a drama or a comedy?” debate — and Hacks, with several returning shows still in the mix while the drama fields, which Shōgun dominated last year, are wide open.

While voters can, and in many cases should, absolutely go back to prior favorites like The White Lotus, Severance and The Last of Us, the THR television critics have recommendations on some familiar and some quirky and offbeat ways to fill out ballots.

Voting for the nomination round closes on Monday, June 23, with nominations announced on Tuesday, July 15. The 2025 Emmys will air on CBS and Paramount+ on Sept. 14, with Nate Bargatze serving as host.

The Friends Cast Reunited Through This Hilarious Courteney Cox Sitcom
Image
The 2009 sitcom "Cougar Town" was never a massive ratings hit; it was constantly on the verge of cancellation, with ABC pulling the cord after season 3 and TBS picking up and then pulling the cord again in season 6. The show starred Courteney Cox of "Friends" fame as main character Jules, but it never came anywhere close to being the cultural phenomenon that "Friends' was. Still, it was a fun watch that offered a lot of fun cameos for "Friends" fans to enjoy.

For instance, halfway through season 1 Lisa Kudrow shows up as Jules' mean dermatologist. In the season 2 premiere Jennifer Aniston stops by to play Jules' therapist, and this character isn't that nice either. Finally there came Matthew Perry in season 5, who asks Jules out on a date after she crashes into his car; the storyline was extra sweet considering Perry and Cox had played lovers on "Friends" for its final five seasons.

Why ‘Shrinking’ is about to go big at the 2025 Emmys
Image
As therapist Jimmy Laird might tell one of his patients, "All good things come to those who wait."

Well, Shrinking has been waiting patiently ... for some major Emmy love. Apple TV+'s hit comedy series only received a pair of nominations for its first season in 2023: Best Comedy Actor for Jason Segel (as Jimmy) and Best Comedy Supporting Actress for Jessica Williams (as Gaby). That's right — even Hollywood heavyweight Harrison Ford (as Paul) was snubbed. But for Season 2, Gold Derby is predicting that Shrinking will be supersized at the 2025 Emmys.

Sometimes it takes a year for Television Academy members to discover a project, particularly in this era of Peak TV when there are so many shows vying for attention. Just look at historic examples like Will & Grace, Fleabag, and Succession — all were virtually ignored for their first at bats, but then exploded with noms and wins for their second cycles.

"The Dirtiest Thing That's Ever Been Put On Television": Shrinking Stars Tease What's To Come In Season 3
Image
Shrinking stars Jason Segel and Jessica Williams tease that the dirtiest joke ever said on television is coming up in the new season. Shrinking follows Segel's Jimmy, a therapist who, after losing his wife, starts telling his patients his honest opinion. While this method is helpful for some, his irresponsible ways do have consequences. Williams plays another therapist at the same practice, who has a brief fling with Jimmy. Also included in the cast are Harrison Ford, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Christa Miller. Shrinking season 3 is currently in production for Apple TV+.

In an interview with EW, Segel and Williams tease a wild joke in the new season. While Segel is one of the co-creators of the show, along with Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, Williams is an established comedian. The pair share that while filming season 3, Williams added a "lewd" joke that Lawrence thought went further...

‘Shrinking,’ ‘The Bear’ Stars on How Today’s TV Comedy Is Less Sitcom, More Character-Driven: ‘Just About Being Human’ | Video
Image
“Shrinking” star Christa Miller and “The Bear” star Abby Elliott agree that their “mugging” for the camera days are behind them.

Speaking on TheWrap’s “Leading With Laughter: Crafting Unforgettable Characters” panel at Wednesday’s inaugural Women of Comedy Emmy Showcase in Beverly Hills, the two TV comedy actresses shared that as the small screen has evolved towards highly produced limited series and shifted away from the multi-cam sitcom, their style has adapted, too.

“I started in sketch comedy, I really thought that comedy was, when I was starting out, pushing for a laugh,” Elliott said. “I had never really done anything as serious as ‘The Bear,’ and in that, you know, I really had to kind of act.”

Moderated by Whitney Cummings, the panel also included Wendi McLendon-Covey of “St. Denis Medical” and Brenda Song of “Running Point.” McLendon-Covey echoed the “Saturday Night Live” star-turned-sitcom actress, saying the industry...

Image
Add Candice Bergen to the list of icons appearing on Apple TV+’s “Shrinking,” co-creator Bill Lawrence revealed Saturday night during a panel at Austin’s Atx TV Festival. Lawrence let Bergen’s casting slip while talking about working again with Fox, the star of Lawrence’s first-ever sitcom, “Spin City.”

Jason Segel Confirms More 'How I Met Your Mother' Reunions in 'Shrinking' Season 3
Image
Season 2 of Shrinking delivered some big laughs, a lot of tears, and a surprising How I Met Your Mother reunion. Jason Segel (who played Marshall Erikson in Himym) stars in Apple TV+'s hit series as Jimmy Laird, a therapist who can't get his own life together after the unexpected death of his wife. Season 2 included a very surprising cameo from his former Himym co-star, Cobie Smulders, as Sofi, whom Jimmy buys a car from for his daughter. While some thought the cameo would be a one-off, it appears that Shrinking has grander plans for Sofi in the upcoming third season.

During a recent panel with the cast of Shrinking, Christa Miller (Liz in Shrinking) and Segel revealed that Cobie Smulders will be back in the show's third season, and what it meant for Segel to have another Himym reunion. "I got to work with Cobie today, who I'm obsessed with,...

‘Shrinking’ executive producer Bill Lawrence on teaming up again with Michael J. Fox: ‘His comedic timing is just bananas’
Image
Michael J. Fox’s highly anticipated return to television after a five-year acting hiatus marks a reunion with longtime friend, colleague, and Shrinking executive producer Bill Lawrence, who tells Gold Derby that Fox was “a huge mentor” during their days together on Spin City.

Lawrence hints that we may get a classic Fox performance for more than one episode of Shrinking: “[Fox] made the mistake of saying he had so much fun. So I'm like, ‘Oh, you got to come again and again!’" says Lawrence.

“I loved seeing everybody still flabbergasted by Fox's timing, because his comedic timing is just bananas to this day,” added Lawrence, who said he was especially touched by watching Harrison Ford and Fox together: “Watching Harrison not only as a scene partner with Mike, but the respect he gave Mike was so amazing.”

“Michael is not playing Michael J. Fox on the show,” Ford revealed...

The Shrinking Actor Who Played Two Wildly Different Roles On Seinfeld
Image
"Shrinking" star Christa Miller, who plays rock-collecting empty nester Liz on the brilliant Apple TV+ series, can portray an incredibly diverse range of women. Even just as Liz, the next-door neighbor to Jason Segel's grieving therapist character Jimmy, she shows her ability to be truly complex, balancing maternal warmth and venomous vitriol all within herself in a single scene. But long before she played the astonishingly great Liz or even snark queen Jordan on "Scrubs," Miller played two wildly different roles on the hit NBC sitcom "Seinfeld." What's even funnier is that both characters interacted almost entirely with Jason Alexander's character George Constanza, first as his potential employer, whom he ends up offending in a major way, and then later as his girlfriend, though it doesn't last long.

Miller is amazing when she's playing someone sweet and even more incredible when she's emotionally eviscerating someone with just a...

‘Shrinking’ Season 3 spoilers exposed during set visit, including Harrison Ford’s ‘extraordinary’ time with Michael J. Fox
Image
"The doctor will see you now," Harrison Ford told a group of Emmy voters as he opened the door to his character's therapy office during a one-of-a-kind set visit for Apple TV+'s Shrinking, held Friday at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank.

Ford and the rest of the cast — Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, Ted McGinley, and Brett Goldstein — had been filming since 6 a.m., but they stayed overtime until late in the evening to shake hands with Television Academy members and answer their burning questions. The whole ensemble then joined moderator Yvette Nicole Brown and showrunner Bill Lawrence at the Steven J. Ross Theater for a hilarious Q&a (in which some Season 3 spoilers were exposed), followed by a screening of the Season 2 finale.

Ford was excited to "dish the dirt" about the comedy series, revealing to Gold Derby that he had...

Shrinking: Michael J. Fox joins season 3 of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series
Michael J. Fox
According to Deadline, Michael J. Fox is set to return to television with a major guest-starring role in the upcoming third season of Shrinking. The appearance marks something of a reunion, as the comedy-drama was co-created by Bill Lawrence — who also co-created Spin City, the series that Fox led for four seasons before stepping away due to his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

The acclaimed comedy/drama follows grieving therapist Jimmy (Jason Segel), who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives, including his own. Harrison Ford stars alongside Jason Segel as Dr. Paul Rhoades, one of Jimmy’s colleagues at the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Center.

It’s unknown who Fox might be playing, but Deadline wonders if it will be connected to Ford’s character, who is revealed to have Parkinson’s disease.

Michael J. Fox and “Spin City” fans — you’re in for a treat. After not appearing in an on-screen role since his 2020 appearance on “The Good Fight,” Fox will return to acting as a guest star in the upcoming Season 3 of “Shrinking,” Apple TV+ announced Thursday.

In that time, Fox through his organization The Michael J. Fox Foundation has raised over $2 billion for Parkinson’s research and has been a vocal advocate for how the disease is perceived. Though the actor was diagnosed in 1991, he first revealed his diagnosis in 1998 while a part of “Spin City.” By Season...

How ‘Shrinking’ Composer Tom Howe Expanded The Music For Season 2 And Scored That Final Brett Goldstein Scene – Sound & Screen TV
Image
The last time Tom Howe spoke with Deadline about his musical compositions for the Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking, the composer expressed the hope he would be able to further unpack the opening theme song, “Frightening Fishes” in a Season 2.

Season 2 arrived on the streamer in October 2024, and Howe got his chance to do that unpacking at Deadline’s Sound & Screen Television.

“The nice thing was about going into Season 2, you can do a lot of variations on the theme and also introduce new themes with different characters and things like that,” Howe said on the show’s panel. “And there also was an opportunity for some longer cues. So that also gives more chance of that kind of, you know, up picking of things and trying different variations and things in different modes here, and things like that.”

5 Reasons Why ‘Carême’ on Apple TV+ Fell Flat Despite Great Promise
Image
Apple TV+ has released another binge-watchable show, Carême, this time in the French language. Based on the book Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Carême, The First Celebrity Chef, the show’s story explores a fictionalized version of historical chef Antonin Carême.

Benjamin Voisin plays the expert baker who hesitantly becomes part of Napoleon’s consulate as a spy. He initially turns down the job at Tulleries. However, Napoleon holds his father captive, and he seeks help from the nobleman Talleyrand, who has revolutionary tendencies.

Martin Bourboulon’s series is a visual treat, however, it fails to go all the way to become the promised groundbreaking period drama. Food and s*x are the driving force behind this show. When all of that is presented in a visually appealing manner, a show lacking real substance can easily earn a spot on many people’s must-watch lists without much effort.
