ᰔ tl;dr: managed to keep my tears (mostly) in check this time around. i have no notes on the perfection that is the joeyaoife duology. the shannon and johnny crumbs made me unreasonably happy.

huge announcement here, guys: i did not sob during the majority of this book. if you read my review for Saving 6, you will appreciate my character development, because that book set me off like a firehose. i am pleased to report that i only sobbed through the last 10% of this one!
i can’t tell if i’m giving this six stars because it was a genuinely good book, or because it invoked such strong emotions in me that i simply couldn’t give it anything less. i think this and S6 may just be a perfect duology in this series.
side note, but the more i read about shannon and johnny in this, the more i missed the absolute hell out of them. i literally had to fight the urge to go back and reread their books. i am so glad we got a cute little insight into their life post-K13.

you cannot tell me this quote is not ‘medicine’ coded. and on the topic of songs… joey relapsing to ‘fade into you’ genuinely made me go into shock. i mean that with absolute sincerity; i had to step away and resist the urge to bawl, because, and excuse my language, what the actual fuck?
this boy got me feeling angry, tired, heartbroken, and completely helpless. his pov got me ripping at my hair follicles, staring at the walls, curling up into a ball… all the usual shenanigans. that mazzy star scene will be engraved into my mind for the foreseeable future, though.

aoife is a stronger woman than i, because i do not think i could put myself through this. she is genuinely such a tank, i love her and feel so horrible for her. joeyaoife till the day i die, but i sincerely hope my love story is not like theirs. these babies got put through the absolute wringer.

shannon & johnny: i did not realise how much i missed my angels until i started reading about them again in these last two books. also, just need to point it out, but shannon’s newfound confidence? i feel like such a proud mama, it’s insane.
gibsie: we know how i feel about my husband. the favour? i cannot deal, bro, i’m so in love. his book is going to demolish me in the worst ways possible.
