it was amazing
bookshelves: novels

** spoiler alert ** I loved this novel.
Over the years, I take it off my bookshelf for a re-read.

It showed the stark clash of the 17th century European Christian culture and the Japanese Bushido.

Bushido, meaning "way of the warrior," is a Japanese code of conduct for the samurai warrior class, emphasizing honor, courage, loyalty, and self-control. It's a moral and ethical framework that guided their lives, particularly in feudal Japan.

Englishman Captain John Blackwell learns to accept that It is unbelievably brutal yet ethereal and beautiful.

He becomes Samurai.
An excellent book by James Clavell.

Ian A nice companion to this would be "Samurai William" by Giles Milton, which tells the story of the English sailor who inspired this novel. It's entertaining!
