A History of Fear

Well that was certainly ONE way to address your religious trauma.
A wild and deeply unsettling journey told through the eyes of an unreliable narrator featuring the cornerstone of any good occult tale; a childhood of neglect, unhealthy obsession and The Devil.
His was a story that became more unbelievable at every turn yet somehow more undeniable—a story not just of devils and fiends, but of the darkness that nests within the human soul like a seed awaiting rain.
This is story within a story; Danielle, a news reporter, receives an anonymous email titled only “THE DEVIL IS BACK”, and within the email, a brief note regarding an Edinburgh university student, Grayson Hale, who had been arrested and charged with the murder of his classmate claiming the Devil made him do it. Following his apparent suicide, a manuscript was discovered within his cell and within it, Grayson had detailed a story of devolving madness and mania.
I don’t really know how to approach this review, other than to encourage readers to go in blind, so as to be able to feel the full impact of the mystery and the twists as they unfold. Im not going to lie, I got to the end and literally yelled at my kindle “ACTUALLY GET SO FUCKED”. It was great. I found it initially a little slow to start but the second half was a wild ride of sinister atmosphere and rising tensions.
