If it has a cat, then it must be good.

One of his finest. I just realized there is an old movie of that one, now I have to watch it xD

Tina (I can now make 20 comments! Better!) Sounds like this might be good for the upcoming season 🎃 Great review!

I guess a little horror never hurt anybody lol. Thank you Tina !

A Mac I loved the Cask of Amontillado, though it wasn't necessarily scary - why did you dislike it? This review has inspired me to revisit Poe this fall!

Oh I don't know Mac, I found it devious and cruel enough to spike my attention to a 2.5 rounded up, but I didn't really enjoyed it. And didn't feel horror-like :p

Rosh "If it has a cat, then it must be good."
If it has a dog, then it must be fabulous. :P

Seriously though, thanks for the clear feedback on which stories are worth it, Federico. I'll definitely try out the Best ones! :)

Diane Wallace Persuasive review, Federico! ;)

message 11: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra Cool. It's been ages and ages since I read anything by Poe. I still remember some of the details though, so these stories made an impression :)

C I like how you reviewed the collection of short stories. But I must disagree with your score of “The Black Cat”. 5★, it is non negotiable 🐈‍⬛🔥

Poe certainly knows how carve an impression. Berenice certainly did a big one on mine xD

Lol. Maybe it's a 4.5? I know it's really good but Berenice is still unmatched for me. I occasionally have nightmares about my teeth and I still don't know if it's because of all the dental problems I had during my life or because of Poe xD.

Vicky "phenkos" Poe, one of my favourite writers! I liked the Cask of Amontillado, though, I think enough to put in in the 'Good' category.

Oh fine. You and Mac win xD. Moving it to 'Good', maybe I was a bit too hard on it. It is after all 3 stars, rounded up. But that is as far as it will go lol.

You and Vicky made perfectly valid points, and I had to reconsider. It's not because I'm a pushover at all xD

Zain I’m reading a book called Terrifying Tales by Edgar Allen Poe. It has seven stories which includes The Casque of Amontillado and The Mask of the Red Death. Most of the stories are very scary. 😱

Awesome Zain! Looking forward to your review and seeing your thoughts on all of them :)

Chantel Sounds like it would be right up my alley - we love a good short story collection :) x

Hope you like it Chantel! It's a bit dated but Poe's legendary fame is well deserved.

Thank you Fiza! I've always marveled at what is considered the best of literature, so naturally the classics strongly attract me. Sadly can't say I always enjoy them; I'm reading the full short bibliography by Poe, and although he has some wildly famous acclaimed stories, also finding a staggering amount of duds too.
