Juliet Marillier was born in Dunedin, New Zealand and grew up surrounded by Celtic music and stories. Her own Celtic-Gaelic roots inspired her to write her first series, the Sevenwaters Trilogy. Juliet was educated at the University of Otago, where she majored in music and languages, graduating BA and Bachelor of Music (Hons). Her lifelong interest in history, folklore and mythology has had a major influence on her writing.

Juliet is the author of twenty-one historical fantasy novels for adults and young adults, as well as a book of short fiction. Juliet's novels and short stories have won many awards.

Juliet lives in a 110 year old cottage in a riverside suburb of Perth, Western Australia. When not writing, she tends to her small pack of re

It really depends on the publishers more than on me - I did intend to write that third book, but my US publisher didn't want to go on with the series. They asked me to start a new series instead, which was Shadowfell. I haven't ruled out writing Stela's story some time in the future, but right now I'm working on an adult series, Blackthorn & Grim, so the decision is a year or two in the future. Sorry I can't give a more definite answer. I do have the story for Wildwood book 3 all worked out!(less)

I think the question about a third Wildwood book must be my most frequently asked question. I did intend to write a third instalment with Stela as the narrator. But when I submitted the proposal to my US publisher, she asked me to write a new series instead (the Shadowfell series, now complete in three books.) I think the publisher made that decision based on sales of Cybele's Secret not being as good as sales for Wildwood Dancing. It would be hard for me to get Wildwood 3 published now, so I am going ahead with other projects, in particular my current series for adults, Blackthorn & Grim. But I still haven't entirely given up the idea of Wildwood 3 - I know how much readers would like me to write that book. :)(less)

I'm Still Here!

Hi all,

I'm embarrased to see that I last posted here nearly 6 yeears ago ... Just wanted you to know I am still around and still writing, but I disengaged from Goodreads for a while for various reasons. I have kept on adding books as I read them. I do find the star system for rating books a bit inadequate. You'll notice most of my ratings are a 4 or 5. That's because, if I really don't enjoy a boo Read more of this blog post »

Juliet answered Margot's question: Juliet Marillier
Hi Margot,

My agent did not believe the publishers would be interested in a third Wildwood book when I suggested it. It all has to do with sales - if the numbers drop for the second book, the publishers don't want a follow-up. And a new publisher, suc See Full Answer

“If a man has to say trust me, Gogu conveyed, it's a sure sign you cannot. Trust him, that is. Trust is a thing you know without words.”
Juliet Marillier, Wildwood Dancing

“He would have told her - he would have said, it matters not if you are here or there, for I see you before me every moment. I see you in the light of the water, in the swaying of the young trees in the spring wind. I see you in the shadows of the great oaks, I hear your voice in the cry of the owl at night. You are the blood in my veins, and the beating of my heart. You are my first waking thought, and my last sigh before sleeping. You are - you are bone of my bone, and breath of my breath.”
Juliet Marillier, Daughter of the Forest

So you do believe in... true love? she whispered.
I took a deep breath, I think I have to, I said, blinking back tears. Without it, we're all going nowhere.
Juliet Marillier, Wildwood Dancing
