| An interesting scientific paper expanded to book length for commercial purposes. The central points are highly valuable but don’t take 50 pages to make. | |

Stunning work I’ve read several times. So elegiac and melancholic I find it. I feel almost accused of never having mustered the kind of attention it so exhorts. I looked up this CPA accountant exam and though my standard belief is that one can achieve ...more |

How is this guy still alive?! A visceral and disheartening and sometimes heartening account of one man’s struggles through endless, needless, senseless tragedy. |

“Fuck you motherfucker
I hate to watch you try
Fuck you motherfucker
Why don't you fucking die?
If I woke up as you
I'd gas myself and fry
But you don't have the guts
To even watch my suicide”

“Because to exist meant making copies and copies of your own DNA with less and less accuracy with time, to lose the spring in your skin, to inhale a poisonous gas that both allowed your next breath and exploded you from the inside at an insidiously slow pace. To exist was to give way to entropy. To live, in no uncertain terms, was to die.”

“Read, read, read. Read everything -- trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it.
Then write. If it's good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window.”

Glad to meet you :)
Thanks for the friend request and I look forward to future book chat!
Cheers,
Leo :)"
Hi there! After I sent the request, I realized that there was a follow option. I was about to cancel and just start following you for a while, so I wouldn't appear impertinent, but you accepted! Oh thank you so much! I'm really happy to be friends with you and I too am looking forward to our future interactions. Vessey :)

It must've been a sign. Saxual Healing reading will resume soon.
Great! I've been looking for a new sitcommy bright coloured thing so OITNB it is!!
I loved Silicon Valley if you haven't seen that :)
I chose The White Ribbon for me and the family to watch- biggest waste of time ever! Haneke not for me, haha!
But generally I like more the odd films oout from a late night going through imdb lists than following "The Directors" and the occasional dark comedy GAAHH .. now this convo has gone too smart for me to be in it- I'll go watch some Mindy Project :D
oh and have you seen Orange is the new black? YOU NEEEED TO if you haven't :D

Got it, Aya :)
Yeah I agree! The funny thing is they're both good books! Like Animal Collective is a great band and Spike Jonze a great director. They (all hipsters) got Lynch wrong though, only about half of the first season of Twin Peaks was any good, and maybe Blue Velvet- everything else though?? Have you seen Mulholland Drive? Eraserhead? Eugh those films suck, haha!!
Hipsters are usually spotted reading IJ and Gravity's Rainbow while drinking coffee (starbucks).
PS: Call me Aya :D
Thanks for thinking of me binnudeya!!
I really love these choices- just goes to show DFW remains the people's least popular writer for the people haha!!
Easy to see why he's been surrounded by pretention- you can usually spot the hipsters by how much they claim to "enjoy" reading DFW, but maybe you'd agree that there's not much "enjoyable" about it :P
Great share! :)
Thanks! And totally agreed!

Looks like I scanned the requirements a little too quickly and didn't realize it was limited to the U.S.

"Billy Sims"
I spit coffee out my nose over that one! Love that image, and the line. I'm up to chapter 3, obv., and having a great time.
Glad to have made you laugh! :D
As I'm going to study in England starting this September, most of the books on that shelf are required reading material. I still have so much to catch up on! Best wishes, Sam.
