I Spent Time with My Dad Last Night

I spent time with my dad last night. It was his sixtieth birthday, and the entire family was gathered at the Crescent Beach Hotel in Rochester, New York, where I grew up. It had always been the site of our biggest celebrations, my engagement party, everything.

“Grown-ups don't look like grown-ups on the inside either. Outside, they're big and thoughtless and they always know what they're doing. Inside, they look just like they always have. Like they did when they were your age. Truth is, there aren't any grown-ups. Not one, in the whole wide world.”

“Words have a magical power. They can bring either the greatest happiness or deepest despair; they can transfer knowledge from teacher to student; words enable the orator to sway his audience and dictate its decisions. Words are capable of arousing the strongest emotions and prompting all men's actions.”

Nick Iuppa GRANEO wrote: "Hi Nick. Thank you for the friendship! I hope you are having a beautiful bookish day! Take care."

Thanks, Graneo... you too. Should be great. I'm reading Cujo, listening to The Night Circus, and writing an extreme horror novel.

It's pretty strong stuff and sometimes a little repellant, but even so, it's beautifully written and may be instructive for anyone wanting to write erotic passages or graphic love scenes.
