This is Nick Fury Jr for Marvel Crisis Protocol. He’s only affiliated in S.H.I.E.L.D, where he’s the leader, but he has some other good homes due mainly to the Extraction plays that the Agents enable. Leaving the Agents aside, Fury has some pretty good attacks and can gain power very smoothly during his activation. The main ’trick’ that he enables alone is the use of the Eye In The Sky tactics card which has confounded my plans many times by pulling a victim out of my attack range before I can attack them. Like most (perhaps all) of the characters with Grunts, Fury feels a little lacklustre without them so getting good use out of both pieces here is key to success with them.
I really enjoyed the two contrasting styles in Fury – one the one hand he has the snazzy modern looking coat but underneath it he’s wearing a 70s jump suit just like his Agents. I painted the jumpsuit in the same style as the agents – initially blue but with a heavy black wash to darken it a bit. The coat got a brown ink wash as I like the shiny effect which gives the overall impression of leather. Fury was a lot of fun to paint; my only critique is that there is a bit of an oddity where his famous eyepatch is sculpted that makes it look as if he has an extremely strangely shaped skull.
Next on the painting table: Sin.
