    What’s changing
Similar to the functionality in Google Sheets that helps you easily convert data to dropdown chips, you can now use bulk chip conversion for people chips. If you have a column of data that includes a variety of emails, Sheets will show a “Convert to people chips” suggestion when you click into your data range. By hovering over that indicator, you can preview the suggestion and then convert your data to people chips in one click.

    What’s changing
Last year, we announced that we’ve doubled the calculation speed in Google Sheets, which improves the speed of actions like formulas, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and more, regardless of your file size.

Today, we’re excited to announce additional improvements available for everyday actions in Sheets:
    • Pasting data is now up to 50% faster when you’re pasting from one spreadsheet to another
    • Filter conditions can now be set up to 50% faster than before
    • Spreadsheets now load existing data up to 30% faster
    Who’s impacted
    End users

    Why it matters
These changes help various users work faster and more efficiently in a variety of scenarios. For example:
    • A data analyst can paste small or large quantities of data from an existing spreadsheet to a new one in a quicker manner.
    • A campaign manager can add filtering conditions to better understand the performance of a campaign at a certain time faster.
    • A small business owner can quickly see their data load.

    What’s changing
Building data visualizations and identifying trends in data is a critical business function, however it can be time consuming and oftentimes overwhelming. To improve upon this experience, we’re making it easier for Sheets users, ranging from small business owners to marketing analysts, to visualize and analyze data using Gemini in Sheets.

Starting today, Gemini in Sheets can perform actions or answer questions to address a wide variety of scenarios. Specifically, you can ask Gemini questions about your data and Gemini can provide valuable insights, such as contextual trends, patterns, and correlations between different variables in your data. Gemini will also generate charts based on your data that you can insert as static images over cells in your spreadsheet. For example:
    • A marketing manager analyzing campaign performance can ask "Provide some insights on my top 3 performing channels by conversion rate" and can receive a detailed breakdown with supporting visualizations.
    • A small business owner managing cash flow can ask "Predict my net income for the next quarter based on historical data" to proactively identify potential shortfalls.
    • A financial analyst investigating inventory trends can ask "Identify any anomalies in inventory levels for Product X" to uncover potential supply chain issues or unusual demand patterns.
Ask Gemini in Sheets to share insights and trends from the data.

Ask Gemini in Sheets to visualize data with a chart or bar graph.
Ask Gemini in Sheets to visualize data with a chart or bar graph.

    Who’s impacted
    End users

    Why you’d use it
This update reflects Gemini in Sheets’ enhanced intelligence as it now yields valuable outputs by transforming your requests into Python code, executing on them and then analyzing the results to perform multi-layered analysis. As a result, you’re able to do things like identify top-performing products and then instantly dive into their sales trends — all without writing a single line of code.

    Additional details
    • For the most accurate results, ensure your data is in a consistent format, with clear headers and no missing values.
    • When asking Gemini in Sheets to analyze your data, be as specific as possible in your prompts to ensure Gemini understands your request.
    • For complex analysis, Gemini in Sheet's performance is most consistent in files below 1 million cells.
    • For some simpler questions about your data, Gemini in Sheets may still provide answers using formulas instead of Python code.
    • Charts are generated as static images and can be easily inserted into your sheet.
    • Charts are not linked to your sheet data, so they won't update automatically if your data changes.
    • Once inserted, charts cannot be modified. If you need to make changes, you'll need to generate a new chart.

    What’s changing
Earlier this year, we introduced a beta for policy visualization across Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. Today, we’re excited to announce this is now generally available, and as a result, users who are interacting with policy-protected content, such as those with data loss prevention (DLP) rules or trust rules, will now be informed about what actions are prevented by those policies.

For example, if a user is interacting with a document affected by DLP-enforced information rights management (IRM) and a trust rule, they will see a shield icon and side panel that informs them of the restricted actions.

    Why it matters
With this update, users will be made aware of which actions they are taking that are disabled on a document, spreadsheet, slides or file due to data protection controls.

    Getting started
    • Admins: There is no admin control for this feature.

    What’s changing

Since introducing tables in Google Sheets, we’ve made numerous improvements to ensure users are equipped with the tools they need to accelerate spreadsheet building. Table references, a way to refer to a table or parts of a table in a formula, are just one example of how tables reduce time spent manually formatting data.

Today, we’re excited to announce updates to table references that enhance discoverability and usability. Specifically, users will now see:
    • Improved table reference availability, which allows users to reference the items below across both single (e.g., =Table2[[#ALL],[Column 1]]) and multiple columns (e.g., =Table2[[#ALL],[Column 1]:[Column 2]] ):
      • Full table columns, including column headers, data, and footers (#ALL)
      • Table headers (#HEADERS)
      • Table footers (#TOTALS)
      • Table data, excluding headers and footers (#DATA)
        Improved table reference availability
    • Formula suggestions, which help you identify formulas that could be more robust. For example, if a user types a working formula that overlaps with a table range, a table reference suggestion will show.

Launching to beta: Import sensitive Microsoft Word documents as client-side encrypted Google Docs.
Beginning this week, eligible customers can import and convert sensitive Microsoft Word files into Google Docs with client-side encryption. When collaborating with external and internal stakeholders, you may find yourself working across both Google Docs and Microsoft Word. This update keeps your work moving by layering interoperability on top of the confidentiality benefits of client-side encryption: customers are in direct control of their encryption keys and the identity service that they choose to authenticate for those keys. Eligible Google Workspace admins can use this form to request access to the beta. | Available to Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and Education Standard customers. | Visit the Help Center to learn more about client-side encryption. While these settings can also be configured at the Organizational Unit (OU) level, this update provides more granular control for admins. This is critical for our customers, who frequently request more flexibility in how they apply settings, giving them more flexibility on how to configure settings based on the various needs of their users. | Roll out to Rapid Release domains and Scheduled Release domains is complete. | Available to all Google Workspace customers.

Classification labels are used to classify and audit content according to organizational guidelines (“Sensitive”, “Confidential”, etc.) and apply policies, such as data loss prevention (DLP) rules, to protect sensitive information in email messages. Classification labels will be available when using Gmail on the web – support for Gmail on mobile devices will be introduced in the coming months. | Learn more about the beta for data classifications labels for Gmail.

      What’s changing

Earlier this year, we introduced a new comments experience in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides on web. Today, we’re announcing a similar update to Android tablets for viewing, navigating, and replying to comments, especially on-the-go. In addition to improved design and filtering functionality to match the web experience, you’ll now be able to easily:

      • Keep a pulse on the latest updates: now you’ll see the first comment and the two most recent replies from a comment thread, with the option to show all comments within a discussion.
      • Review comments with full context: enjoy familiar, in-context commenting, similar to the web experience, while taking advantage of larger screen real estate on tablets.
      • Navigate and filter comments: navigation tabs and filters within the comments panel help you easily find relevant comments, without having to switch to a separate view.

      What’s changing
Last year, we introduced the ability to pull rich data from apps directly into Google Docs with third-party smart chips. Since then, many users have embedded content from partner apps, including Asana, Jira & Confluence, Canva, Lucid, Loom, Whimsical, and Zoho Projects, and now we’re expanding the capability to Google Sheets.

Starting today, users can add smart chips that pull information from third party apps into Sheets. Users can also paste third-party chips inserted in Docs directly into a spreadsheet.

To access third-party smart chips, an admin or user must first install a partner’s add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace. After that, simply paste a link from the third-party source into your spreadsheet and click “tab”. You will then see a smart chip populate in your sheet that previews critical information from the app, right in the flow of your work.

      Getting started
      • Admins: You can only create and use a third-party smart chip if a developer has enabled it for that application. You will also need to install or allowlist the specific add-on for that application to ensure end users have access. Visit the Help Center to learn how to install Marketplace apps in your domain and managing Google Workspace Marketplace apps.
      • Developers: Visit the Help Center to learn more about how to make third-party smart chips.
      • End users:
        • Specific add-ons for third-party applications must be installed by your admin or allowlisted for you to use this feature. Visit the Help Center to learn more about inserting third-party smart chips from other applications
        • To convert a link to a third-party into a smart chip, you can either:
          • Paste a link from the third-party source into your spreadsheet and select “tab”
          • Replace the link with a chip within the hover card that appears when you place your cursor over the link.
Users who have installed a third-party add-on will see a hovercard of information defined by the third-party upon hovering over the chip:
