September Star

I am thrilled to introduce my Septemeber Star! Lyn has a blog called Just Granny's. She is a lovely lady who has 8 children , 8 grandchildren, a wonderful husband and two dogs, and she resides in Montague, Michigan. Does it all sound idyllic? Well it is. She is a lucky lady indeed to have such a wonderful family! I was so happy that Lyn agreed to be my Star, as she is such a talented and lovely person.
Here is her interview, and enjoy reading it and getting to know her.

Interview for September
A Bit About Me:
I am a wife, a mother of 8, and a grandmother of 9. I was blessed with a patient grandmother who taught me to crochet scarves and sew doll clothes.

What Inspires Me:
I am constantly inspired by all of my blogging friends. I have learned so much, and I feel so lucky to have all of these wonderfully talented women to show their stitching. All I have to do is click on a blog, and I have all the inspiration in the whole world.
What I Love to Do the Most Creatively:
I like to crochet, embroider, and just generally putze craftwise,,,but the whole process of quilting is my true love. Everything from the fabric selection, to the hand stitching of the binding, is my favorite.
My Favorite Fabric and Designer:
I am not really a "Fabric Line" sort of person. I love the Thimbleberries line from Lynnette Jensen, and the richness of Kaffe Fassett, but I mostly love scraps. The scrappier, the better.

UFO I Intend to Finish First:
I started a memory quilt for my brother out of our mother's velvets a few years ago, and I got lost, so I put it away for a while. Now that I know more, maybe I will take that out and work with it.

What’s on the Design Wall Now:
I am hoping to finish up a "leaders and enders" pin wheel. I have all the HST's, now I have to find the right pattern to put them together. Backwards, isn't it?
Who Would I Love to Meet:
Well, I could fly over to Ireland and meet Micki and Joe,,,tee hee

If I Had One Wish:
I would wish for all children to know the warmth and security of a quilt made by a granny.

Plans for the Future:
That is what I'm missing...I have no plans for the future, so I better get busy and set some goals, right?

I have a few of Lyn's works below, so enjoy all the eye candy!

Please visit Lyn's blog and get to know her! Thanks so much Lyn for being my friend and for doing the interview!

Giveaways

Lena at Leka Quilt is having a wonderful giveaway...go check it out. The prizes are homemade purses.

Also, Ryan's giveaway is so nice too, so take a look at his blog. He is giving a sewing calendar as a prize.
Finally, I am feeling a bit more achey, but better as I don't feel shaky anymore. I was in a bit of a shock yesterday. Thanks for all the well wishes. The Baileys did help (LOL), as did the Rooster Party.

Show Us Your Roosters Blog Party

Barb from Bella Vista is having her Rooster Party today. Some of you saw my rooster potholder which was all machine applique, but I am putting it up for the party again, and this morning, I made a Rooster Pincushion for my friend Dawn which is all embroidered in the front, and I included that too for all of you to see. Welcome to all the guests who come to visit and see the roosters!!!!! The rooster in the potholder is named Harry, and the one in the pincushion is named Foghorn. They are both sending their " cockadoodledoos" to you and big hugs from Ireland.I will have many blogs to visit to see all the roosters doing their appropriate and very unique "cockadoodledoos" for the party. Thanks Barb for a fun party!!!!!!!

I need a bit of a celebration...I can't believe what I did, but my dog Rufus came in from the rain, and wet the floor, and guess who had a fall like Humpty Dumpty...Me, of course! Well, every bone in my body is hurting. I injured my arm, leg and hip, and boy do I ache! Well, Joe said I missed this fancy chest we have by a mere few inches, so he was relieved that I did not hit my head on that. Well, I am ready for a Rooster Party for sure.

Joe took me out to McColgans's Pub at around 11:30 AM to have some drinks and forget about my aches and pains. This is the usual look of an Irish Pub, and the ambience inside is just so nice too. I had two Baileys and boy did I need that. We sat in a really cool area called a snug. I will be resting the rest of the afternoon with my feet up, feeling sorry for myself, and waiting for the party tonight.

The Winner of the Rose of Tralee 2009

Carole Ann ( who by the way is from Philadelphia, PA), wanted to know who the winner of the Rose of Tralee was. I totally forgot to tell you all, in the midst of the excitement of successfully taking a pic of the Stars and Stripes quilt. It wasn't the Rose from Philadelphia, ... boo hoo... nor was it the Rose of Dublin, where Joe was born. It turned out to be Charmaine Kenny who was the Rose of London. Anyways, you get to see her pic, and it was a fun two day event on tv.

My Stars and Stripes Quilt Finally, Well Wishes and Congratulations to Kylie, and Farewell to Ted Kennedy

I came up with a brilliant idea this morning! So many people were asking to see the Stars and Stripes top, so I finally thought of how to take a pic of it. DUH!!!! Joe would hold it! Why didn't I think of it before? It sort of makes the story about Joe climbing on ladders even funnier. Joe held the quilt for me, and I took the pic, and though it had a few wrinkles, because it is impossible to hold it up completely straight, I am proud to show you the quilt, and Joe's feet of course.LOL

It really did turn out beautifully, and I will be thrilled when it is hanging up! Joe laughed and said that he looked like the Headless Horseman...Yes, you can't see his cute face in the pic, but boy did he do a good job of holding it! Thanks Joe so much!!!!! The light from the back of the window and camera showed up on two points on the border, but you will excuse that I am sure.LOL

Also, a friend of mine named Kylie, whom I introduced to you a while back, is getting married, so if you have the time, send her some well wishes and congratulations at her blog. She is going through a bit of a hard time, but I am thrilled to bits that she is getting married, and I am so happy for her. She is thinking of her mom not being there at her wedding, as she died two years ago, and it got me thinking of my dad. Funny enough, I saw an episode of Beauty and the Beast today, and the story was so much like mine and it did remind me of Kylie also. I do try to just remember the good times that my dad and I had. The best memory was my dad reading the story The Velveteen Rabbit to me. I loved that story, and told Kylie today that I read a portion of that story at his funeral. Here is what I read:

What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"
"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."
"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.
"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."
"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"
"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

I sometimes reread that story, and it is lovely. It has gotten me through many a bad time, and I sent it to Kylie today. Here is the complete story of The Velveteen Rabbit, if you want to read it.

Kylie, congratulations on your wedding, and as I told you today, your mom will be smiling, as I am sure my dad did also when Joe and I got married.

Finally, I heard that Ted Kennedy died, and I was very saddened. I really loved all of the Kennedys, and I was so unhappy to hear it. I remember that I was in my French class the day that John F. Kennedy died, remember how I felt when I heard that Robert Kennedy was assasinated, and it seems that there was always sad news associated with the Kennedy family. Ted Kennedy was a Lion in the Senate, and I am sure that he will be missed greatly. All I can say is "Thank you and goodbye!"

A Big Surprise, a Funny Event, and the Rose of Tralee

Let me tell you about the surprise first...Mel celebrated the anniversary of her first post, and she did a drawing of the names of the people who commented, and I won. You can see it here. Congrats to Mel for her anniversary. She is going to have a party at her blog on the 28th and 29th, so stop by as she will be having some giveway prizes, a free pattern and I am sure lots of fun events. Thanks so much Mel.... I don't know what I won, but I love surprises!

The funny event involved my finishing the Stars and Stripes quilt top. I was so excited, so I wanted a pic of it to show you all, but the quilt turned out rather larger than I thought it would be. Joe couldn't get the entire quilt in the shot, so you will all have to wait till I quilt it and finish it so that we can hang it up on the wall and get a proper shot. The funny part was that Joe brought a ladder from the shed, and tried all kinds of maneuvers with the camera... You should have seen him standing on the highest rung of the ladder to hold the camera real high to try to get a pic of the whole quilt Well, we had the quilt on the floor and on the bed, and it was just impossible to get a direct shot of the whole quilt. Well, Joe was sweet to try, but tomorrow, I will start the machine quilting, and should have it done in a few days, so you can see it hanging on the wall. It has turned out beautifully, so I was thrilled with that!

Oh, The Rose of Tralee is on tv today and tomorrow. This festival is an international event whereby Roses are chosen in various countries, and come to Tralee, which is in County Kerry, for the selection of the Rose of Tralee. All of the women have to be of Irish heritage or from Ireland. Needless to say, I am cheering for the Rose of Philadelphia, and I have included her pic. Cross your fingers for the Philly girl.

Tree of Life and Some Interesting Wedding Tidbits

Today, I was reading Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati in bed. Yes, I went back to bed after breakfast again...it is becoming a recurring luxury. I am almost on page 600, but there are 876 pages in the book. I just love it! I already ordered the next two books in the series from Amazon, and they are supposed to arrive this week, so I am trying to finish the first book, so that I can immediately continue the series. Anyways, while I was in bed reading, I got a package in the mail from Deborah Bridle who lives in Australia. I ordered a lovely Tree of Life necklace from her website called Unique Dichroic Glass Creations, and it arrived today. It was more beautiful than I had imagined. Well, it is going to be my signature piece, and I can well imagine myself ordering some more items for Deborah. Joe loves it. He said, "The pendant is dimensional, and there are beautiful lights and colours reflecting from the dichroic glass." I looked it up and dichroic glass dates back to the 4th century A.D. The Tree of Life is a many- branched tree that illustrates the idea of the interconnectedness of life I do love it so much! Check her site, and I think you will be as enamored with her works of art as I was. Thanks Deborah for designing such wonderful pieces of art, and I will cherish it forever!
PS: Some people emailed me and asked me about our wedding when they read yesterday's post and saw our wedding picture. We got married in Philadelphia, which is where I grew up. There was a funny story surrounding our wedding. We were trying to arrange the ceremony. You know how family can be...discussions arose as to how and where the ceremony should be, etc, etc. I was pretty frazzled by it all, and Joe asked me what I wanted to do. I said sort of jokingly that if it were up to me, I would elope, so guess what we did?...We eloped. We had our ceremony privately at a justice of peace with a huge sheep dog watching our ceremony, had a lovely dinner at a Chinese Restaurant by the Delaware River in Philadelphia, and then honeymooned in my favorite spot in the Pa. Dutch Country. We then had another symbolic ceremony for my family, and a third one for Joe's family in Dublin. We landed up having three ceremonies. What a hoot that was, and the rest was history. Two soulmates found each other to stay together forever. Anyways, thanks for all of the questions and for your kind comments about our wedding pic!

Tour Ireland with Pat Sloan and Going Down Memory Lane

A friend of mine told me that I was living a dream by living here in Ireland. I have to agree with that.
Some of you have told me that you have always wanted to visit Ireland, because you have Irish heritage or just because you love the country. If you can't make the trip, I want to recommend a great book that Pat Sloan wrote called Tour Ireland with Pat Sloan. You can get the book at Amazon here.

Also on You Tube, Pat made two videos showing highlights of her book's projects as well as her trip to Ireland. I thought you might like to see them. So here is Tour Ireland With Pat Sloan Part One and Tour Ireland with Pat Sloan Part Two.I got this book for a friend of mine, and she loved it. You will see some of the projects on the videos, and also you will love the scenic pics of this wonderful country.
I remember when I came here many years ago after I married Joe, and I had never been to Ireland before. Joe took me camping all over the country, and I got to see most of Ireland that way. It was such fun, and we have wonderful photos as memories of that time. Here are two of them. One is me standing next to our tent with our dog Corey, who is no longer with us, and the second one is from a scapbook that I made of our wedding pictures. I also love scrapbooking, and I have made several albums. Aren't we just the greatest couple?

I enjoyed looking at all our albums this morning and thinking of all our times together. It is nice to know that I met my soulmate, my anam cara, as they say here in Ireland.

Tour of Ireland with Lance Armstrong, Some Wonderful Free Patterns, and Swap Projects

Lance Armstrong is in the Tour of Ireland. It has been exciting to watch all the bicylists racing here in Ireland, especially since Lance Armstrong is one of them. Joe wears his Live Strong bracelet all the time, and we both really admire him. It is a shame that they are not coming up as far north as Donegal, as we would have loved to see the race.

I also found some wonderful free patterns, and some of them are patriotic and Civil War patterns, so I thought you might like to see them. I will be definitely doing one of them. Washington's Legacy is just gorgeous, as is the Dear Jane pattern. There are so many beautiful patterns there, that it is hard to decide which one I would like to do in the future. I am sure that you will like one of them!

I made two felted projects for the Angels Swap and the Advent Swap...one in red and one in purple. I can't post them, as I don't want to spoil the surprise, but they turned out so cute. I did send a pic to Dzintra to show her, and I was so pleased with how they came out. I can't even tell you what they are, but as I love felting, they were such fun to make.

Blazing Star

I finished another block for the Stars and Stripes wallhanging. This one is a 12 inch block called The Blazing Star. Here is what they said about this block in the book: "In a flash of inspiration, Francis Scott Key wrote the words to our national anthem in 1814. Held aboard a British ship during the bombardment of Baltimore's Ft. McHenry, Key spied the broad stripes and bright blazing stars of the flag throuh a haze of gunsmoke. The song, performed in public a few days later, became popular immediately." Well, this star is named appropriately. It is like a blazing star, and what I love about it is that it has incredible dimension to it. The gold part seems to pop out. It is all paper pieced, and it was hard to match all the points, but it is now one of my favorites.

I wanted to thank Kath for her suggestion about making a label for the back of the quilt, where I would explain the history and story behind each block. What a great idea Kath, and thank you again!

Well, just one more block to go and I can put the top together...I am heading to the quilt shop to buy some more gold fabric, so I can complete the last block. YEAH!!!!!!!!

Two More Blocks for the Stars and Stripes Wallhanging

This morning, I made the Life block and Declaration Star Blocks. The Life Block is a 10 inch block, and it is so colourful and fun to make.
The Declaration Star Block is also 10 inches. I made a four patch and then fused the circle and star onto it. I am enjoying reading the history behind each block. The Life Block shows the different paths we take in our lives and how many of them cross each other. The Declaration Star Block
represents the independence of America from Great Britain, and the Declaration was of course officially adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. It has been amazing making this wall hanging for me, as I did come from Philadelphia originally, as I have mentioned so many times before.

Anyways, I have two more blocks to do , and then I will put the top together. It will be exciting to see the wall-size sampler put all together.

Two Siggies Arrive

I received two lovely siggies from a mother and daughter named Laura and Ambre Graham, who reside in Virginia. Both of them wrote me lovely, chatty letters, and I enjoyed reading both of them. Ambre mentioned that she loves animals, and she chose the panda as her logo for the block as it is one of her favorite animals. One of the things that Laura told me was about a pregnant female tabby that her husband rescued, and as a result, she has seven cats, thus the cat in the centre of the block. The two letters were just so friendly and informative, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the two of them.

Both are members of the International Siggy Group. I have been asked by some of you what siggies are. They are blocks that are signed with one's name, city, and country, and then something is in the middle of the block that is significant to the quilter. Many people use stamps for the centre, as it is so much quicker and easier. If you want to buy a stamp, look here for a great site to do just that. It is called Inkspirations. To join the International Siggy Group and exchange siggies, please contact Annelies van den Bergh who is in charge of the group. You can see her blog at http://quiltsandsiggies.web-log.nl/quilts_and_siggies/ and her contact information is there. I love the blocks, but I think that the letters which come with the blocks are the most enjoyable to read. I have kept all of the letters, and hope to one day make a lovely double quilt from the blocks.

Hope this answers your questions about siggies.

Giveaway Package Arrived, The Time Traveller's Wife, and a New Blog I Found Called Nikon Sniper

What a wonderful surprise when Lola's giveaway package arrived in the mail. We went to see a movie in Letterkenny, and lo and behold, the mailman had brought a surprise package for me. I am so thrilled with it all. Joe already hung up the flag on the wall next to the Stanley range, and it is lovely! The patterns are wonderful, and I am especially looking forward to making the Raggedy Annie doll. I got more patriotic fabric which I can use for my Stars and Stripes wallhanging that I am doing. In addition, I got a lovely card from Lola, which really did mean so much to me. Go visit Lola's blog here and thanks so much!

Joe and I also went to Letterkenny to see The Time Traveler's Wife at the movies. It is based on the book with the same title by Audrey Neffennegger, which you can see here. It is a charming love story between Henry and Clare, and of course involves time travel. It is one of the best romances that I read in a long time, but the movie unfortunately is not as good as the book, althrough movies rarely are as good as the books. It does make one appreciate those we love, and cherish each moment we are with them.

I also met anther blogger named Steve, who has a lovely blog called Nikon Sniper .Steve explains the title of his blog by saying, " Digital Photography is sort of like sniping with a machine gun. If you get up every day, turn on your camera and put your life on continuous fire....sooner or later, you're bound to hit something." That sort of sums up my philosophy of life. He takes gorgeous photos with a Nikon camera, and captures all that Joe and I love about nature. His pictures will enthrall you. Joe loves photography, so he has surely appreciated Steve's talent taking photos. Steve has ancestry from Ireland. Both his grandfather and father are from Belfast, so as our county is the northernmost county in the Republic of Ireland, we are closest to Northern Ireland. Stop by Steve's blog and enjoy a lot of candy for your eyes, and you will see why he has over 1,200 followers of his blog, and I am happy to say that I am one of them.
Thanks to everyone who wrote to me about my hearing problems. I am in a much more positive frame of mind. I did have a lot of inner ear infections, so it should be no surprise that I have this problem now. I do thank you all for your words of encouragement. I will hear those raindrops once again on our roof and write a post about it...That is something to look forward to.LOL

Siggies Arrived and Trip to the Audiology Centre

I received two siggies in the mail today. One was from Annette who is from Utah. She put a lovely daisy in the centre, as it is her favorite flower. She also wrote me that her husband gives her daisies all the time...How romantic is that! The other siggy was from Mary, who was from Pittsburg, Kansas...Well, I heard of Pittsburgh in my homestate of PA, but I will be honest and say that I never heard of Pittsburg in Kansas. Mary put Sunbonnet Sue in the centre, and I thought that was so cute! Thanks to both of you for beautiful siggies.

Joe and I also went to Stranolar as I had an appointment with the Audiology Clinic there. I have been losing my hearing in both of my ears, and I have noticed a real problem especially the last two years. I especially have a problem with understanding conversations in a room full of people, if there are background noises and particularily with high frequency sounds. Well, the news was that I have moderate/severe hearing loss in both ears...not an age related problem. She referred me to a hearing specialist, and she said that he might give me a MRI, and further tests to determine why I am having the hearing problems in both ears.Well, needless to say, this wasn't the best of days. The good news was that I would be getting digital hearing aids, but we are waiting to hear what the specialist says.

It will be nice to hear the movement of the grass blades...that's what Joe says that I will hear once I get my hearing aids...I tend to doubt that, but you never know.LOL I would like to hear again the sound of rain on the roof of our cottage. That would be so nice! Gee, I hope that I didn't give you all too much of an earful...look what happened to Harry Potter!!!!!

We are home now...I wasn't in the mood to sew, but I watched Oprah and the Ellen Degeneres Show....I always get a good laugh especially from Ellen, and boy was I laughing!

We decided that we would have a fun day in Letterkenny on Saturday....a movie is just what we need. We will have to check out what is playing, but I will post what we finally decided to see. I think I need a day out.

Off to read my book...I am enjoying Into The Wilderness so much by Sara Donati...I really do highly recommend the book once again!

Bunker Hill Block and a Good Read

Right after breakfast, Joe suggested that I go back to bed and read my book...He heated up the bed, and I really enjoyed a lovely, comfy two hours of reading in bed....I was terribly spoiled. I am reading the first in a series of books called Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati. It is 876 pages, and it is really a good read. You can see the book at Amazon here.

After lunch I made another block for the Stars and Stripes Sampler wallhanging. This one is a 12 inch block called Bunker Hill, and it is all machine pieced.
I now have four more blocks to sew in order to finish the wallhanging. I can't wait to put all of the blocks together!

I am off to put dinner on, and then Joe and I will take a nice long walk.

Boy, the weekend flew, and another new week has begun. Time is really flying!

Rooster Party, Harry Potter, and Some Siggies

I joined a Rooster Party that is being hosted by Barb at her blog called Bella Vista. I decided to make a Rooster Pot holder. There is something about Roosters....They are just so cute. This one is made from various colours of felt fabric...Not functional at all, just decorative!

Joe and I also saw Harry Potter this weekend, and it was magical. If you haven't seen it yet, go see it, as you will love it. The actors have all grown up so much since the first movie, and it just made me realize how quickly time was flying by.

I was also busily making four siggies to post tomorrow in the mail, as I got requests to swap siggies from various countries around the world.
Happy Sunday to all!
PS: Sharon from Daffycat and Laurie from Indulge Yourself asked me what a siggy was. It is a block that you sign in the middle with your name, city, and country, and really you can put anything in the centre that represents you.... I have a stamp that I use for the centre of the block which has the map of Ireland, and my name, city and country on it with a shamrock on the map showing where I live. I joined the International Siggy Group, and I have exchanged siggies from all over the world. I love reading the letters that come with the blocks, and I have kept all of them. I now have over 110 blocks, but I need more siggies to make a double sized quilt. Anyways, Annelies van den Bergh is in charge of the group and you can see her blog here.
There are also siggies on that page, so anyone interested in seeing some, I have posted mine on my blog, but Annelies has tons for you to see. If you want to join the group, you can email her and ask to join....It is great fun!

Schoolhouse Block

This is the third block that I completed in the Stars and Stripes Wallhanging that I am doing. If you look at the August 3rd post, you will see where this block will go in the wallhanging. It is 12 inches, and it was a lot of work. They didn't give me a paper pieced pattern for the roof, so I had to draw the pattern onto foundation paper based on the measurements that they gave in the roof section diagram. I now have 5 more blocks to complete. I will have to get some more fabric, and since my quilt shop is having a big sale, now is the time to do it.

I was busy with the block for a few hours in the afternoon, and now Joe and I will be heading out for our long walk, and we are definitely into fall weather now. We had about a week's worth of summer weather, and most of the summer has been like fall. Off for our hike...hope your day has been a good one!

I'm in the Irish Quilting Magazine

Anne Marie Hobbs is a quilt teacher and designer who live in Ferns, Co. Wexford. This September, she is opening a quilt shop at her home in Kilbora. I am so excited for her, and I do plan on seeing the shop, even though it is about 5 and a half hours on two buses. You can see her blog here.Anne wrote an article in The Irish Quilting Magazine called "Blogging As Addictive as My Quilting", and she chose three designers and three quilters/bloggers to highlight, and I was one of them. I was thrilled to bits! It was an honour that she put my blog in Issue 4 of the magazine, and I do thank her for including Joe and for all her kind words. As you can see,Quilter Going Bananas and Kim's Big Qulting Adventure were the other two quilters/bloggers highlighted in the article. By the way, Kim is having a wonderful giveaway, which you can see here.

Sherry Nugent, the publisher of the magazine, just mailed me my copy of the magazine issue that I was in, and she was kind enough to send me a free copy of the next issue. I will be subscribing to the magazine. If you want to subscribe to the magazine, go to http://www.irishquilting.ie/.

Well, this was a very happy day for me. Besides, reading Anne's article, I really enjoyed reading the two issues of the magazines and getting inspired by all the wonderful patterns and quilts.

Eagle Block

I finished the Eagle block and sewed it to the American flag block. It actually has a light beige homespun fabric as a background, but the camera did not catch that colour very well. it looks grey, and don't ask me why.LOL I laid it on the floor, and Joe stood on a chair to take the pic. You can, however, see how I machine appliqued the pieces. it was a tricky block, but it was fun to do. I love the Steam-A-Seam 2, but I have used the Heat and Bond too. Luckily, all the pieces were already reversed for me, so I didn't have to worry about that. I can see that I will have to do a lot of stippling in the background of the eagle block, but I enjoy doing that, and it will give it a really rich look.

Tomorrow, I will start the Americana house. which is a 12 inch block, and I have already picked the patriotic fabtics for it.
I am still thrilled that I won the giveaway, and that the package was all Americana items. I feel like they were destined for me. It's turned out to be a lovely day, and I hope all of you had the same great day.

I Won an Americana Giveaway

I found out today that I won a Folk Art Americana Giveaway package in Lola's giveaway at her blog And Sew on. This is just perfect as I am adding a touch of Americana to our cottage. It came exactly at the right moment! My goodness, I was thrilled!!!!!

I have included pics of the package that I won, and a closeup of the Folk Art Hanger. All of it is lovely!
Thanks so much Lola for the opportunity of winning the giveaway!

Stars and Stripes Forever

I started the wall-sized Sampler Quilt from the Stars and Stripes Sampler book by Liz Porter and Marianne Fons. I decided on the wall-size which is 44"x50". I will hang it up in the living room, as I wanted to have something of my home country, America. Being from Philly, one of my favorite areas of the city was Historical Philadelphia. I finished the top of the wall quilt called the Old Glory Flag Block, which is 10"X18", as you can see by the pic. Today, I will start cutting out the pieces for the larger Eagle Block which is 20"x26". I will be using Steam-A-Seam 2 fusible web to do the applique. I went to a big sale at my local quilt shop to get the fabric that I will need for the blocks. I am so looking forward to making it, as I have wanted something patriotic representing America for a long time.
I will post the pic of the eagle soon, as it will take me a day or two to complete it.
Joe is feeling a bit better, and thank you so much for asking.

I am off to start working on the Eagle Block. Happy Monday to everyone!

A Quick Thank You

Joe and I didn't go to Harry Potter, as Joe woke up with a chest cold. As the weather was rainy, windy, and cool, I thought it better that we do not go. He had a nice hot Lemsip, and he is taking a nap. Harry Potter will have to wait till next weekend.

I wanted to thank Kylie for a lovely pair of leg warmers that came in the mail. She crocheted them for me. I made her a knitted scarf in her favorite colours, so I do hope that she likes it when it arrives. Thanks so much! The leg warmers are in my favorite colour of pink, and as our weather can get very cold in the winter, they will be used often. Thank you again...they are beautiful!
