My Blue Blog....for now

So I changed the color of my blog to BLUE.
Perhaps I too have my blue days, but not in a sad way-just colorful. Have a bluetiful day.

And So It Begins Again......

Today I feel like singing with the help of Gene Kelly

and his Singing In The Rain.
I'll be singing in the rain not this coming Thursday, but the coming Thursday on the 11th because it will be finals and I am out of there. Well my esposo goes back to work and now I return to my usual stuff like classes and other home duties. I can really do my stuff. What kind of stuff you say? Well lets see.....cooking stuff, cleaning stuff, painting stuff, dog playing stuff, friends stuff, reading stuff, and just singing and singing in the rain because I feel so good that the time is almost here. So now I will tap dance my way out the door with Gene Kelly and his music and never mind if it gives my age away, just don't tell anyone Sssssssh..... Listen to Gene and you can probably hear me in the background somewhere just singing and singing in the rain. Excuse me....I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain....what a glorious feeling, I'm happy again...I walk down the lane, with a happy refrain, I'm singing and singing in the rain.

The Chocolatte Line Dance

I ran across this dance and since it is for a CHO CO LATTE line dance, I thought I would dedicate it to my doggie Chocolatte. It's a pretty neat line dance. It's a good way to work off those turkey calories. I actually made some turkey soup tonight with the leftover turkey.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Really A Very Nice Day

It was a great day. Lots of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, biscuits, medley of vegetables, pies, and just all sorts of goodies. The usual traditional dinner. I am still full. We spend our Thanksgivings with my mom and family. Next year it will be a my home. I hope everyone had a great day. I am still full, although......well you know how it is with turkey, it gets you full very quick...but then your hungry again. I am tired and really don't have much to post today, so take care and have a great weekend.

Frijoles Con Queso Y Tortillas

WHEN YOU WANT TO CUT BACK ON COSTS, THIS IS IT. YOU CAN'T BEAT IT. CHEAP AS CHEAP CAN BE. VIVA LA TORTILLA!!

Fall In My BackYard

Salsa, hot salsa

Turkey Salt Shakers

Sorry about the pix being all over the place. I tried laying them out and then I got confused. My orange tree and my lemon tree are overflowing. There would have been more oranges, but my neighbor had a fire in the summer that burnt our trees. They survived, barely. Big yellow grapefruits and there are about 4 on the tree. They have no taste though. Our little greenhouse where we pot everything is up there as well. Just wanted to share some of the orchard backyard in the fall, and of course my little turkey salt shakers. Hope you are having a great weekend. Now I am off to make tortillas and some refried beans with lots of cheese.

My Thrifty Day

So on this Friday I decided to give the thrift shops another try and look what I found. The pictures aren't that good but one is a chalkboard with clock. I used plenty of soap and water and cleaned it really good. The light you see is my overhead light.

So now I need to get some chalk and leave memo's on it. Is that not cool. I don't even have to paint it.

Then there iwas this spice rack that doesn't need to be painted. I ran the containers through the dishwasher and cleaned the shelf really well and WALLA! I won't use them, they are mainly for kitchen decorations, but they are so cute. Little chickens.

This pie plate was beautiful so I had to bring it home as well.

I have some tiles on my kitchen walls with berries and lemons, etc. So this will be great.

I ran it through the dishwasher as well and I love it. Okay the cost you say? I got everything for ................................

ONLY FIVE DOLLARS AS IN $5.00

So I think I did pretty good. Viva La Vida!! Next time it will have pie in it. I love it because it was once used by someone else and there are stories there.

Take care my blogger friends and be well.

Lulu, hope this answers your question.

Lulu, I'm not from Mexico, but am of Mexican/American descent and born in the USA.
As far as my family, we celebrate pretty much the way most Mexican's do in the USA- good tamales, rice, beans, family, tree, celebrations, cakes, pies, cookies, enchiladas, tostadas, tacos, you name it. Everyone brings something or helps make something

I checked around and found this on Mexico Connect on the representations of certains things. It was posted by Jenny McGill and done in 2007. Hope this helps.

.

The partridge in the pear tree was Jesus Christ.
Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
Three French hens represented faith, hope and love.
Four calling birds were the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Five golden rings were reminders of the first five books of the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
Six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
Seven swans a-swimming represented the seven gifts from the Holy Spirit: Prophecy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership and Mercy.
Eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control.
Ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.
Eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
Twelve drummers drumming represented the twelve points of belief of the Apostles' Creed.
May this be a joyful time for all of you wherever you might be

LAZY DAY FRIDAY/PLUS THRIFT STORE DAY

The Sky is Blue and Beautiful.

Today I am going to forget about every darn problem in this world , or at least temporarily....and go, just go do it. What am I gonna do?

First, duties. Like go pay off Home Depot...Yayyyyyyy Paid off and no more bills but the ususal stuff. We are debt free. We have been for a long time.

One year I said to my husband, give me your credit cards and he looked at me like I was ripping off his clothes and whippng him with a whip. Give me your credit cards, I repeated. "What for!"

I told him back in the year 2005, that there would be no credit cards. We would keep one for emergencies and pay off credit that we had. We did that then, and we paid off everything. I needed a stove so I paid for half of it and put the rest on charge at Home Depot. Now that is done. He was a good husband and said, you always take care of the bills so I'll let you handle that. He gave me his credit cards without further dismay. I ran them through the shredder, along with mine and just kept the one that is for emergencies only. My husband had a habit of seeing something and oh I like that and home it came with him. No more.

But how I got on that subject I don't know. It's my day today and I am going to go get some postcard printing paper so I can make some beautiful postcards. I then am going to buy some necessary items for Thanksgiving, go to thrift stores and yard sales to see what I can find.

Oh I'm exicted. It's 7:52 am and I need to get ready before the day is over. I'll be back and hopefully I can find some nice things. Have a great Friday everyone. Be well.

MY S and T-8 FRIDAY

Okay, so maybe I can start typing here. These cups, a total of 25 porcelain mug collection and distributed by Franklin in 1984 were a joy for me to order. This was the first real collection I had. As I was looking at them to take pictures, I noticed they needed cleaning and the shelf needs dusting. There's cups that say Bon Ami to Arm & Hammer, all products from the past, although some still linger. I remember ordering them, wondering where I was going to display them. I've been careful to not break any. There have been times when just for the fun of it, we have coffee in them, but not too often. I hope you like them and enjoy them. Tomorrow is Friday and I like to post my Show and Tell on Thursday evening. I wasn't sleepy yet. Starting tomorrow I have off till the 2nd of December. I am definitely going to take advantage of that time to do some painting, of which I miss a lot. I need to put my soul to work. It's a good feeling. Have a great rest of the evening and I hope you like the music I added to my blog. Something soothing, except for Chavela Vargas who really pours it on.
Gloria- Viva La Vida

Comments Section

I've been noticing that some people are changing their comments section and for some reason or other, the section won't take comments. It locks or just doesn't acknowledge your comment. Is anyone else getting this? I haven't changed mine, but a few blog sites I visit have and I can no longer leave comments.
Just wondering.

Mexico Bob, I tried your new post section and it isn't working. Thats why you have no comments. Report it to Blogger. I won't switch to a different one because there is always something wrong with the new stuff.

Wednesday Eve Poem

Here is a poem that I love, but did not write. The great poet Robert Frost wrote it in 1916. So long ago and the words still flow.
****************************************************
THE ROAD NOT TAKEN by Robert Frost (1874-1963)

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Tuesday Poem-Uh, Uh not today

I'm not really feeling poetic tonight, so instead I thought I'd share this dish. I have about 10 dishes that are from different states, but this one is a plate on covered bridges. As I mentioned on today's TeaCup Tuesday post, Alice's niece gave me dishes and other heirloom's that belonged to my friend Alice. Is this not a great dish?

So there you go, memories from a friend who once travelled and bought dishes from every state she went to. How cool is that! The camera does it no justice or my picture-taking.

So Have a great evening and enjoy the nice dish. Makes me wish I was walking across those bridges. Kind of like Meryl Streep in The Bridges of Madison County. Maybe Clint Eastwood is on the other side.

TEACUP TUESDAY

These two I have had since the 60's.

This one belonged to Alice who lived across the street. She is gone now. Her niece gave me a few of her dishes. I love it.

These two here, one and the same...I found at a thrift store and I have my green Chai tea in the cup at present to help with my cold. It belonged to someone and you wonder about them and when they used the cup.

Since I'm not sure if I am going to class tomorrow, I thought I would post TeaCup Tuesday on Monday evening. I was over at Amy's at her blog: http://homeacre.blogspot.com and
she had her beautiful teacups that she had inherited and I thought what a great idea. So she said anyone can join in on the fun and here are my teacups.

When you are sick, it's the pits!

Well for the past 2 or 3 days I have been struggling with this cough. I can't stand being sick and taking the medications required for colds only makes me drowsy and sleepy. It is 10 am and although I did get up at 6 am to make my husband lunch, I went back to bed and am just getting up. I have duties like feeding my dogs and my cat and other things here at home. I don't plan on leaving the house because I'm dizzy so that means I can't drive.

Two days I have spent in bed and I kind of thought I would enjoy it, but being idle is no fun. I will get better soon, I have to. I have an essay tomorrow and my husband said no, I can't go. But it is an in-class essay and the professor won't take it any other way. I am going to email her again, but she doesn't answer. I'm going on and on about nothing so I will have to file this post under "nada stuff" or something to that effect.

Don't worry, you can't catch my cold. There are only 6 classes left to go before the final and darn if I don't get sickly.

AnnnnnnnyWay, I'm going now to drink water, lots of water and tea, like my blogger friend yaya suggested. Tea sounds good, come to think of it. Take care.

Classical music to relax with

Moonlight Sonata, the beauty of it just engulfs you. I am making homemade hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes, white cheese, red onion, and of course homemade fries for dinner that is. It doesn't go with the music but hey, I'm home. Have a great Saturday.

My S and T 07

I picked these album up at a thrift store many moons ago and you can see, they do go way back. I still have my stereo and once in a blue moon I may listen to some of them. This is just a few of the lucky finds. Get a load of 3 sailors and a girl, I think that movie was from the 50's.

Look at Elvis the King. Oh la la.

In any event this is my show and tell for Friday. I was running late today because of having to go in to the doctor's for a blood test. I seem to be dehydrated, so I am drinking lots of fluids. My house is a mess and they drained the blood out of me, but as Arnold says, "I'll be back." Enjoy my albums and sorry its not laid out right. Have a great rest of the day. Now I need to answer comments before I start my housework.

Learning How To Apply You Tube To Post

I finally learned how to post from You Tube with the help of this beautiful lady called http://paintedskywoman.blogspot.com/ and I really appreciated the help. I am testing now and hopefully I did it right. It is Lila Downs singing one of her hits, Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps. She sings it in English and of course Spanish. I have to go check and see if this worked by posting it. Be back later.

Really nothing to report

Walmart is Walmart. We have 3 Walmart's. One in Ceres, about 10-15 minutes from where I am at, and another one on Sisk Road, about the same amount of time and both of them are not Super Centers. The new one on McHenry Avenue, home of the American Graffiti and George Lucas movie, is the same. The only difference is the produce department and meat department. It is a little further for me so I won't be patronizing that Walmart. If I am in the area, I will stop and have a look. I took my camera but there were so many people pushing and shoving and saying the lines in the back, waaaaaaay out there. I decided not to take pictures.

I just said, hey I'm not in line, but when they opened the door I was there along with a lot of other cheaters. I'm not ashamed, I have bad knees. I can only stand so long and I tire easily from standing. Besides one lady yelled to the lady that said that the line was in the back, "Hey, there is no line, we are where we are." She winked at me. So I don't feel bad about "cutting in," so to speak.

Hahaha, I cheated today and I like it. I mean what are they going to do, spank me? I don't think so. As you can tell by now, I am tired and I sound tired. Its back to class tomorrow, but I finished my "Homeless" essay. I titled it "Homelessness Hurts." It's not due for another week or so, but I got it done early and I can relax a little. I'm still waiting for hubby to get home. He commutes and doesn't get home till about 6pm. It makes for a long day and a late dinner. I don't like eating late, because I like to go to bed early and with a full tummy....well thats not good.

SuperCenter Walmart

I've been looking forward to the grand opening of the supercenter, although we already have a Walmart, but not a supercenter. Its suppposed to open tomorrow on Wednesday and so I woke this morning thinking it was Wednesday. For some reason I lost a day somewhere. I started to get ready early this morning and then I looked at the day in the calendar and practically kicked myself. It wasn't Wednesday. Oh well, we all make mistakes.

So this evening I decided to post my Wednesday evening poem. I did. I then remembered it was not Wednesday. Am I losing it or what. Maybe I am rushing for Wednesday to be here so that I can go and spend money. Or maybe I'm just plain old and feeble-minded now. Which is it. I've recently started to misspell words as well. I don't like that, as I have always been a great speiller...I mean speller. In any event, that mumbo jumbo I posted as a poem was meant for Wednesday. Maybe for some of you it is Wednesday and hooray for that. I'm off now, till tomorrow when I post the Walmart event.

Wednesday Evening Poem....or NOT. Maybe just Mumbo Jumbo

COFFEE BEANS, KENYA AA from Africa
These beans hop
These beans have that kick
Though I've never been to Africa
I sure am taken there,
When I sip that sip
Of hot Kenya coffee
Hippity Hop I go
(I love coffee and when I smelled and tasted this coffee, I knew I would always buy it. Of course we only have it on Sunday because it is so expensive. Rest of the time it's Folgers. Have a great evening.)
