Why, Why, Why

Why, Why, Why do we press harder on the remote control when we know the batteries are getting weak?

Why do banks charge a fee due to insufficient funds; when they already know you're broke?

Why is it that when someone tells you that there are one billion stars in the universe you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint you have to touch it to check?

Why do they use sterilized needles for lethal injections?

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?

Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Whose cruel idea was it to put an "s" in the word "lisp"?

If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?

Why is it that, no matter what color bubble bath you use, the bubbles are always white?

Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?

Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

Why do people run over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it and then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance?

Why is it that no plastic bag will ever open from the first end you try?

How do those dead bugs get into the enclosed light fixtures?

When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart, then apologizes for doing so; why do we say, "It's all right"? Well, it isn't all right so why don't we say, "That really hurt you dumb #%&@, why don't you watch where you're going?"

Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?

Why, in winter, do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?

How come you never hear father-in-law jokes?

I Believe!

A Birth Certificate shows that we were born
A Death Certificate shows that we died
Pictures show that we live!
Have a seat.  Relax . . .
And read this slowly.
I Believe...
That just because two people argue,

It doesn't mean they don't love each other.
And just because they don't argue,
It doesn't mean they do love each other.
I Believe...
That we don't have to change friends if
We understand that friends change.
I Believe...
That no matter how good a friend is,
they're going to hurt you
every once in a while,
and you must forgive them for that.
I Believe...
That true friendship continues to grow,
even over the longest distance.

Same goes for true love.
I Believe...
That you can do something in an instant
That will give you heartache for life.
I Believe...
That it's taking me a long time
To become the person I want to be.
I Believe...
That you should always leave loved ones with Loving words.
It may be the last time you see them.
I Believe...
That you can keep going long after you think you can't.
I Believe...
That we are responsible for what
We do, no matter how we feel.
I Believe...
That either you control your attitude or it controls you.
I Believe...
That heroes are the people
who do what has to be done,
when it needs to be done,

regardless of the consequences.
I Believe...
That my best friend and I
can do anything or nothing
and have the best time
.
I Believe...
That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones to help you get back up
.
I Believe...
That sometimes, when I'm angry,
I have the right to be angry, but that
doesn't give me the right to be cruel.
I Believe...
That maturity has more to do
with what types of experiences you've had
And what you've learned from them,
and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.
I Believe...
That it isn't always enough
to be forgiven by others.

Sometimes you have to learn
to forgive yourself.
I Believe...
That no matter how bad
your heart is broken,

the world doesn't stop for your grief.
I Believe...
That our background and circumstances
may have influenced who we are, but,
we are responsible for who we become.
I Believe...
That you shouldn't be
so eager to find out a secret.
It could change your life forever.
I Believe...
Two people can look at the exact same thing
And see something totally different.
I Believe...
That your life can be changed
in a matter of hours
by people who don't even know you.
I Believe...
That even when you think
you have no more to give,
When a friend cries out to you,
you will find the strength to help.
I Believe...
That credentials on the wall
do not make you a decent human being.
I Believe...
That the people you care about
most in life
are taken from you too soon.
I Believe...
That you should send this to
all of the people that you believe in.
I just did.
'The happiest of people don't necessarily have
the best of everything;
They just make the most of everything they have.

Welcome to the return of the Seeking Virtue Sunday monthly meme!
This meme occurs once a month on the first Sunday of the month

and August, 2011's goes from August 7-31
To participate, all you need is a Christian lady-related post
(it doesn't have to be about being a Virtuous Woman unless you want it to)!
Find some ideas and the rules towards the bottom of this post.*

Matthew 7:7
Judge not, lest ye be judged.
This is a concept that I continually strive, yet struggle to master.
I truly want to be an empathetic woman.
A woman who looks foremost,  for the good in others.

How often, I wonder, do we misjudge a persons true character,
when we forget to look beyond appearance, or circumstance?

I know that I have been guilty.

~I've seen a mother yelling at her whining kids,
in the aisle of the grocery store... and at once thought
"What is wrong with her?  How can she be so cruel?
Can't she see the those children are tired?
It's ridiculous to be taking your kids to the grocery store this late at night
and not expect them to be cranky!

*Instead I should have looked at the circles under her eyes,
and the weariness in her face, and seen the types of items that she had in her cart.
The bare basics. Bread, peanut butter, jelly, and canned pastas.
No meats, or fresh fruits, vegetables, or milk.
She is probably a single mother, working two jobs at minimum wage.
Struggling just to keep a roof over their heads, and their stomachs as full as possible.

This works both ways.

~ I know that I have seen women strolling through Whole Foods.
Diamonds on their fingers and earlobes, hair done perfectly,
with meticulously applied make-up, and wearing designer clothes.
I've thought to myself , "Oh how I would like to be in her shoes.
It must really be nice to have money to spend on myself like that!"

*Instead, I should have seen that the hand that sported those diamond rings,
were much older than appearance of her face. Aaahh - a face that had
undergone plastic surgery.  A body that probably been sculpted too.
Sculpted by surgery and relentless exercise.
I should have seen that her cart was filled with groceries for  just one.
I should have seen the strained smile as she passed a happy couple,
choosing the perfect apples, and peaches.
I wonder.. " Had her husband left her for a younger woman?
Did she spend her days trying to be someone that she wasn't,
thinking that looks were the only thing of importance?
Was she so lonely beyond belief?"

How often, I wonder, has someone misjudged me,
and therefor, missed out on knowing who I really am...
That I am creative, and musical.
That I love animals, and the color green.
That I. a voracious reader, and take I photos of the silliest things.
That I'm a wife, and mother, and grandmother.
The I have experienced joy beyond measure...
but have also been so down,
that I never thought that I could crawl out of the deep pit
of heart break and sorrow?
*
Oh yes, my dear sisters.
Judge not, lest ye be judged.
Look for the good in others.
Be filled with kindness and empathy,
for it will serve you well.
Strive to be like Christ.
