Fortune Cookies

I went out to lunch yesterday, with two very sweet ladies. We went to Anne's favorite Chinese restaurant - King Buffet. We ate, talked, laughed, and enjoyed each others company. My fortune cookie had the most wonderful fortune in it, and it was so fitting after spending an hour reminiscing about our dear friend "Even a small gift could mean so much to someone today." That was Anne "in a nutshell".

I'm determined to continue her legacy, with just one small gift a day. A note in the mail, a phone call, a meal when needed. If we all tried to follow in her footsteps, what a nicer world it would be!

Not Teaching Today

It's 7:03 and the High School hasn't called, so I guess that I'm not going to teach today. The elementary school may call in about 35 minutes, but I think that I will just let the phone ring. I want to connect with some friends here in Denham - two special ladies who miss Anne, "The Card Lady", as much as I do.

We mades plans for today, should I not have to work. We are going to go eat chinese, and drink diet lemonade, and talk about Anne. Other subjects will come up, but Anne will take up the bulk of our time. We miss her, and still can't quite believe that she is gone from us. We will need each other now, more than ever. Maybe I'll call Angie and ask her if she would like to come too...

...For those of you who are LDS, you will appreciate Angie's plight. She was called as the Relief Society President Easter morning. Anne died that evening. Talk about "Baptism by Fire"! I think that she could use a little "down time" herself!!!

Some great news - They have just opened a Sephora in Baton Rouge. I thought that I would have to order my makeup online for the rest of my life, but now it's just a 30 minute ride away. Hey, when you live a dull life, it doesn't take much to float your boat!!!

New Granddaughters and a Trip Out West

Look at this adorable face!!! This is Evelyn Elizabeth. She was born in October to her proud parents, Suzanne and Barry. More about my trips to Alabama in a new post coming soon, to a computer near you!!! On the left, Andy opening the door and seeing Nonnie and Grandpa. He was shocked and pleased to see us. He thought that I had already gone back home, and the boys didn't know that Steve was coming out for Carson's 8th birthday!

Sariah-Lynn and Dave had a beautiful baby girl in January. They flew me out to stay with them for a couple of weeks. It was great!!! - The family picture on the right ,of Sariah-Lynn, Dave, Peyton and Avery-Lynn, was taken at the Celestial Seasonings Plant, located. Dave and Peyton are doing their "say cheese" smiles. The picture above, was taken in Sariah-Lynn and Dave's living room. Earlier in the day, Steve was honored to be able to Bless Avery-Lynn. The picture on the left is Carson and Steve at Sarah's house. Carson said that all he wanted for his birthday was to see his grandpa (and get an electric guitar). He got both. Out trip was a total surprize for both Andy and Carson.

While out west, I also got to visit Sarah, Carson, Andy and Katelyn. I had a wonderful time!

This is Katelyn, Sarah's youngest. She is the happiest little girl! She will be a year old in July. Her smile lights up a room. Big brothers,Carson and Andy, adore her.

Aren't my girls beautiful? Sariah-Lynn and Sarah are standing in front of the Temple. We had a wonderful day. After seeing the Temple we went shopping at the Deseret Bookstore.

My Dear Friend Anne - The Card Lady

Here is a great picture of my friend Anne. This picture was taken in January, on a replica of the Nina. She was so excited that Steve and I took her to see it.
Anne was a godsend to me, when we moved here. I felt so lost and alone. I was so very glad to have Steve home every night, but, oh how I missed my kids, grandkids, and wonderful friends. Anne White was assigned as my visiting teacher and she took me under her wings. She drove me all over. We rode in her bright yellow Prius named Daisy (often with her dogs, Mr. Sam and Sweetie Lea, in the back seat). She showed me the back way to church. She took me out to lots of restaurants and great stores. She brought me her newspapers after she had read them - and did the jumble on a seperate sheet of paper, because she knew I like to do it too. She got me hooked on diet lemonade from Chick Filet. She introduced me to Judy and Mary. She talked me into becoming a substitute teacher, and we taught together at the High School and the Elementary School. She helped me to look forward to each new day. We shared books with one another, talked politics, and laughed at ourselves until we cried. She called me often, sent me cards and notes, and she made sure, that I KNEW that she LOVED ME.
Anne died, unexpectedly, on Easter evening. Her death has been a real loss for me, BUT I am so glad that I had her in my life. She taught me, by her example, what a true friend is. I no longer want to take for granted all the special people in my life. I want to cherish every moment that I get to spend with family and friends. I want to make more of an effort to stay in contact with all those whom I love and care for. I want to try to become a positive example to others, as Anne was to me.
To all of those who are reading this - know that you are in my thoughts, my prayers and my heart.
