Finally getting in some time at the shooting-range

Went shooting today at the indoor range in Winthrop Harbor.  I burned through a bit over 100-rounds of .45 ACP using my 1951 vintage Argentine 1911 clone in a bit less than an hour.  Not a single jam or problem with any of the mags I had preloaded at home for this session. 


I was the first shooter on the range and before I was finished all other lanes were occupied and there was a line of shooters upstairs awaiting their turns.  Heh!  It’s good to see so many gunslingers practicing their craft.

Kinda burned out on blogging

I've been blogging here and at other places since 2007. Before the internet came along I was online visiting BBS sites from the days of dialup 300-baud modems. Then CompuServe came along ...

Many folks had already abandoned blogging and went on to Twitter at around the same time I finally started blogging.  Frankly, I'm amazed that active blogs still exist.  

Twitter never attracted me; eventually I signed on to Elon's X for a while, found it to be very nice but I canceled my account in short order; blogging was (and still is) pretty much my "comfort zone." 

Anyhoo, I'm now old, gray, very tired, and very busy taking care of personal matters.

My first shooting range session for this year was April 23 (yeah, I'm off to a VERY slow / late start again this year)

I really like this old S&W 66-3 .357 Magnum.
The grips are oversized and fit my shooting hand perfectly.
It's a fun handgun.  A great shooter.

I spent an hour at the range and blasted two targets; the first was @ 30-feet and the second was @ 57-feet (the target-trolly decided that was as far as it would go)

I've got a huge overstock of .38 Special of all sorts and brands; standard pressure loads, +P loads, +P+ loads, round nose, lead, jacketed, hollow-point, hydra-shok, etc. etc. etc.  

It's time for me to lower the inventory; I'm definitely not getting any younger; there is no need for me to remain prepared for Armageddon.

Time to freshen the handgun sights

About 5-years ago I went to a blaze-red on the factory-black and the stainless steel front sights on most of my handguns.  I really liked it back then but over the years the paint dulled and it slowed down my sight acquisition during my routine drills.  



Sooooooo recently I decided to spend a couple of days cleaning the old red paint from the sights on all of the aforementioned handguns and go with a bright green.  The photo above shows the first coat.  This color is fine for now but I'm guessing that it also will dull over time.

I'M IN AND OUT OF CHICAGO REGULARY SO I DON'T HAVE LASER SIGHTS ON ANY OF MY HANDGUNS; THEY ARE BANNED IN CHICAGO AND POSSIBLY OTHER MUNICIPAL JURISDICTIONS.

ACCORDING TO AN AI SEARCH "In Illinois, possessing a laser sight accessory on a firearm is illegal in Chicago, but generally legal elsewhere in the state. Chicago's ban is enforced, and the city considers laser sights to be contraband. While state law doesn't explicitly prohibit them, Chicago's local ordinance does."

The best soft drink I ever had

Dunno why they quit making it.  Oprah did a thing about fave soft drinks back during her heyday and Kayo was resurrected for a very short time.  It's only available as a powder nowadays; too much trouble for me to give it a try.

It seemed (to me) that Pepsi and Coke started losing flavor decades ago so I lost my lust for all soft drinks.  I was unaware that those major producers were transitioning from cane sugar to the much cheaper high-fructose corn syrup crap.

I'm (hopefully) done with organizing / tabulating the calendar-year 2024 
income tax bullshit.

I'll drop it off at my tax-dude's office on Thursday and keep my fingers crossed that he finds nothing amiss and can officially file it with the gubmint.  

I may need to pay a bit more than what was withheld; I'll see what my taxpro has to say.
