For sale! A new page

Still on holidays with my parents. I've finished painting my British unit for the BfC project, and I'll send the pictures to Curt in a moment. Meanwhile, I've been rumaging through stuff I had accumulated since I started wargaming in 2001.
It really is amazing the amount of lead you can accumulate. And yes the lead moutain is a reality for me. I discovered that I wouldn't be able to paint everything, especially when you interest in some eras/scales... you know what I mean. Therefore, I've created a dedicated page where I will list all the stuff I don't want anymore. Most of the time, it will be unpainted, but I know somme painted miis will appear. Should you be interested, just contact me and make me an offer.  And yes, the categories will all be full of goodies.

Go over there: http://backtotheminis.blogspot.fr/p/painted-in-2013.html

Just for fun: this appeared when I googled "throwing stuff away". WtF!?!

Tick Tick- Final days before Curt's challenge

Am I ready for the challenge? Oh yeah! I've been prepping a lot these days ( as most of the challengers in fact). I still haven't finished priming everything, but it should be done shortly, at least I hope so. I intend to reach my 800 points goal this year, since I almost got it last year. So, what will I do? It's now time to write down a list:

There's only part of the primed stuff here.

- some medieval civilians in 28mm, From Perry. They were sent by Big Lee when I had won his giveaway draw. They will be perfect for the first themed bonus entry.

- Some Gladiators from Foundry

- The Franco-Indian war minis Loki sent me for the charity.

- A lot of 15mm ACW, for my Longstreet army. The guys at the club would like to start in January. Well they might not be entirely painted by then, but at least they will be based and therefore playable ;)

- the camp for my Carthaginian army. And it will be used as a bonus entry too.

- some Slaves in 15mm. I still haven't finished my Spartacus' army!!!!!

- the entry fee for the challenge. It could count as two bonus entries, if I do it well;)

- some biblical suff in 15mm, since I'd like to enter an Art de la guerre competition later in 2014.

On the gaming front, I played another game of Longstreet last week, and it was a blast. I played in 6mm and took some pictures. So, you can expect a battle report quite soon.

Of wall (again) and umpiring

-Sir, with all due respect to the Roman ingenuity, I don't think this two feet high wall will stop a foul-smelling rampaging horde of barbarians.
-Come on centurion, look at the size of my skirt, and I tell you this:  we were right to do this and trust me they will be so scared they'll grow hair everywhere.
-You mean they will turn into Scots?

Yesterday evening, I went to the club to host a game of Art de la guerre between two people who were interested by the rules, Richard and Jay. i brought my Chinese and Carthaginian armies, ready to play with. We really started at around 7.40PM and the game was over with a clear Chinese victory at 10.20PM. Yes, this is a fast game, even for beginners. And they were satisfied by the game. Though it's a I go you go system, and you use some pips, still the game runs smoothly. And the pics? Well, When en route to club I discovered I had forgotten it, sorry... But don't be mad at me, I'll give you some. Before leaving, I had time to do the highlights on the Roman wall. Now, I need to wash the wood, and I think it'll be done.

Of Adder, Romans and Impetus

I'm back, you lunatic freakazoids! How dare you think I could have been useless? And now, thanks to my shiny costume, I will submit you all. Baldrick, have you changed your thong?

What? Three days of week-end and no post? Well, to be honest, I can't really go near the computer on the week-ends and besides, both my wife and daughter were sick... So, no real blogging for me. But then, things were looking better yesterday evening, so I managed to go the club to participate in a game of Impetus. Interesting rules, and quite complementary to Art de la Guerre: they're both fun and fast ( though AdlG might be faster), and Impetus is brutal and chaotic, whereas AdlG seems more manoeuvre oriented. So, complementary rulesets, yay.

Did I do anything part from this last week-end? I certainly did. I finished, at last painting the Roman cavalry, and started prepping the fortifications for the camp, from Baueda.
And yes, thanks to your support, Blackadder is back!

After one year of hard work...

Indeed people. Today is my blog's birthday! Hurray! 1 year of blogging on Blogspot, where I discovered lots of charming, funny, interesting bloggers, got hooked by many good projects and of course where I posted my humble musings and painting.

Happy barfday!

Thanks to you, I was always motivated enough to keep painting and blogging, and consequently, my painting level improved quite substantially. I dare say I'm not a bad one now, and it's thanks to you.
In fact, I might consider taking more painting commissions now, once the Romans and one or two other things are finished.
Now, without being as posting efficient as Tamsin, I'll try to post as many times as possible, and I wanted to ask you all: For about 3 weeks, I posted a comment loosely based on Blackadder. Do you think I should continue?

While you're thinking about it, I recommend you to visit Ian's blog, with lots of interesting stuff about ECW and obscure battles, amongst other things. And there is a give away.

Do you want proof?

A few days ago, I dared say I was using a headtorch when painting. And some of you wanted a proof. Well, yesterday evening, while inking and washing my unit, I took my tablet and here is the picture:

So, my third unit is almost complete now. I just need to do some touch-ups and highlights, and then varnish and voila.

you an see a real difference

Tata.

Another one? Change of plans again

You know, if the Queen hears about it, She might be so furious you'll lose your head...

Right. I should never have moved to London... Indeed, my club is also about to start a medieval comp. And after having resisted the urge for some time, I finally let my guard down and entered it... So I've checked what I had in stock, and ordered some more minis... Which means I'll have to redo my painting planning:

1/ finish the Roman army, to get some cash and some space
2/ Paint some horse I'm about to receive ( painting commission, yes i think I'll take some if you're interested)
3/ Paint my medieval army
4/ Paint my SAGA warband
5/ Paint my French 30Ywar army
6/ Paint my modern French.

Gosh, I'll be busy

And the winners are...

No Blackadder pic today, sorry lads, unless you really miss it. Do you?

Ok, I've done the draw, and here is how I proceeded. There were three contestants for the Stalingrad book: CdtK, Ray and Justin. So I rolled a d6 and 1-2 CdtK, 3-4 Ray, 5-6 Justin.

Berlin was more popular with 6 contestants, so, once again one d6 : 1 CdtK, 2 Ray, 3 Ian, 4 Justin, 5 Cpt Miller, 6 fougniouf.

And the dice rolled...

So Baldrick, what do you see? Dice mylord... You stupid git!

Ray is the winner of the Stalingrad Book. Hurray!
Fougniouf gets the Berlin book. Hourrah!

Congratulations to you both

Could you send me your adress at:
sebastien.gimeno at  gmail-dot-com

Thanks again for your participation everyone.

And maybe I'll see you at Salute.

Back to Nappy

Should we give him a pardon, Milord? Hmm we could, but we're the Church. We'll sell it for some shiny coins.

A few posts ago, I posted a first review of FOG-Nappy. Well, to be honest, it wasn't as much a review as a simple observation from a game played by my fellow gamers. It sounded horrible. But I discovered a real review yesterday, made by John de Terre Neuve here.  I must say I'm impressed by the amount of work he put to write this down, including a batrep as well, describing the mechanisms. His review is very thorough and well written, worth a look if you want my opinion. What are now my conclusions? Well, apparently the rules are still too wordy, but seem to be interesting, at least much more interesting than during the game I watched. In fact, you have to unlearn what you have learned during your FOG experience, to misquote Master Yoda. Still, will I buy them? I don't know. I like points based game because they allow quick/ unplanned and balanced games, I like Nappy too, and I'm craving to play some Poles or Late Prussians, but I've too many projects on the workbench, and I prefer waiting a bit, to see if these rules are good or not.

Now, jacket's on, I'm on my way to the club, I'll play a game of Hail Ceasar for Salute. Tata.

You are wise, young one, even though a strange accent you have.

Ouch!

Lord Percy, this is the retailer...

Yes, ouch. Unfortunately, yesterday, in the early evening, my trusty computer just passed away... Apparently every USB port just died and when I tried to touch it, it just went off... So, up early this morning ( with a toddler though , it's easy to be up early on Sundays) and then off to get a new PC. Saddly, I lost quite a lot of things, mostly wargame related, including pics from games, but nothing major's gone. Phewww. Still, it hurts to spend more money on this, especially three weeks before Salute...

Aieeeuuuh.

Another celebration and a give away

And then Squirry the Squirrel went Ni, Ni, Ni and they went home for tea...
Now, how much for a good hard... Party!

Thanks to Alex Mayer (blog?), I now have reached the 100 followers milestone, a couple of days after Tamsin, but not that fast. Congratulations and celebrations are in order I suppose. But, to thank you all, I 'll keep to the newly established tradition of a prize draw.

The first give away will be Anthony Beevor's Stalingrad:

And the second one will also be from AB, Berlin:

Both are excellent books, very well written. So, if you're interested, just say it in the comments. I'll leave this draw pending for one week, until April, 5th. Good luck everyone.

Bonne chance a tous.

In the FOG- a spectator view about FOG napoleonic

You know Baldrick, as a great philosopher said, Gordon to be more precise, there must be some great rules hidden beneath this... Baldrick, stop chasing that rat, I'm not that hungry!

Ok, instead of painting, I went to the club, partly to chat and drink, yes, my pub night is on Thursday, not Friday, sorry people, and also partly to watch a game of the newly published Osprey rules system: FOG Napoleonic. Erm, what can I say... I've been extremey impressed... by the... Erm... Ok, to be honest, and I'll quote Gordon again, "these rules have set a new standard for badly written rules" Enough said I suppose. It might be good, but honestly, I was there for about 2h30 and all they achieved was three turns, including one assault. Yes, I'm impressed. Yes, they were discovering the rules, but they had already read them and have some previous FOG experience, so they should have been in a rather known gaming area, shouldn't they?  From the little I could see, it seems to be "PIP-based but we're not saying it is PIP based", and the tests seem to be easier to pass. Cavalry go around squares and arty can evade. That's all I could remember...

Ottomans Vs Prussians...

white squares= command points

apparently, things went wrong for the Ottomans

Happy 20,000

I just wanted to thank you all for this: When I looked at my stats this morning, I saw I just reached the 20,000 hits milestone. I' m impressed, that was fater than I expected. So thank you again, your visits keep me motivated, especially because I'm still desperately trying to find a job...

The golden ticket

I just love chocolate. I can eat a whole tab for a snack. So today I just had a craving for chocolate, and I took my favourite brand, Willie Wonka. Yum. And to my astonishment, there it was, behind the wrapping... the golden ticket! Yay! I can go to... Salute! Ok, let's be serious, my ticket arrived in the mail ;) See you there then.

Yes! e peux aller a ... Salute!

Medic! and some horses

Hi everyone. Well, I think my week-end will be somewhat busy doing something else: My daughter is sick, so first I've had to postpone my game against Tamsin, and then I think my painting speed will be slowed down. Oh well, my sweet and loving daughter first.

Then, I still managed to have enough spare time to prep another unit for my Chinese army: nomadic light horses, but this time fromn Old Glory.

Whepeeeee

Sorry people, slightly out of topic, but I've just received my TOEFL results. Out of 120 points ( internet based test), I've got:

- 30/30 in reading ( yeah man)
- 27/30 in listening ( Yeahhhh)
- 26/30 in speaking ( what the heck?)
- 28/30 in writing ( come on!!!!!)

Am I good or what?  Ok, now I can fairly assume I'm proficient in English, and Ican prouve it. See ya!

Good news on the painting front?

Well, I should say  2012 could be a very good year for me, at least on the painting/gaming front. I learned my local would be hosting an other internal comp, with FOG-Renaissance. Couldn't that be a better idea, could it? I was about to start painting one myself, so, up the motivation to climb the lead hill ( no moutain for me) ;P Expect some TYW stuff quite soon.

Some explanations... and an apology

Some of you have thanked me for the background info I provided about the last unt I painted, the Turtles (see previous post). I had developped a background for this particular unit, with some battle record. The thing is... It was only my imagination at work. Indeed, I don't know if there was nay unit called the turtles, and if there was a battle at the Red River. The problem comes from the Chinese sources. From what I gathered, from second hand I don't read ancient Chinese, most of what we know about the period is quite bureaucracy-centered. So we have names, numbers, sometimes names of battles, but that's it.

But, to my defense, this is what we know for sure:
- Chinese units had names,
- Rewarding units after a battle, even with a new flag, or a slight change in name, was a comman practice.

So, with this scarce info at hand, I wrote a small background for my new unit...

I hope you don't mind fellow reader, but I felt compelled to do it.

Just a quickie

As I told you a couple of days ago, I've received a parcel from Museum Miniatures. The minis looked ok to me, so I was wondering if I should order more while the sales were still going on. Needless to say I'm weak, so I ordered enough troups to paint more options. And I received the parcel today, while sipping a cup of coffee:

oohhh crossbows

yum, spearsssss ( with armour)

and chariots of course

Ach Teufel! No, TOEFL

Not much painting yesterday, simply because today I'm passing the TOEFL, a certifiacte to see if  I'm proficient enough in English... It'll be the internet version, with a final mark which could be up to 120 points. This far I managed to get 110 points. Which is good, my main weakness being the speaking test, of course. But then, I'm a slow speaker, and having only 60 seconds to answer is short...
