If you can recall, I had already posted Hptmn Stransky, posing as a villain. Well, it was obvious Sgt Steiner would be a hero. And indeed he is one of my favourite movie characters: a battle-hardened veteran, who doesn't expect anything from anyone. Just doing his job to survive the atrocities and stupidity of the war on the Eastern Front. Betrayed, survived, and finally went into battle laughing... But at what? Stransky or the war?




Honestly, when you're 9, you're fascinated. And indeed James Coburn is one of my favourite actors. The mini is a former Chiltern miniatures, now SHQ. I had told Stransky was bad, but this Steiner doesn't look like Steiner at all. What's with the head? Ah well, I did my best, especially with the vest, which has 4 different layers. I'm trying more blending when painting 28mm.

What a strange weather we have here. Today it's pouring, but yesterday, we had a wooping 17°C and lots of of sun. Geese, ducks and cranes are flying north again... in February... Anyway. Back to the brushes. And today we have some Franco-Indian wars stuff, what we French call the Wars in Canada.Hence the beaver (I know, I know, cliché...) But in France it's either that or the lumberjack. Now wait a minute...

Nous avons vraiment un temps étrange. Il pleut aujourd'hui (normal), mais hier nous avions un magnifique soleil et 17°C. Les oies, canards et autres grues sont déjà en train de regagner le nord. En février... Bon, retournons à nos pinceaux, avec, rien que pour vous, des figs guerres du Canada. Avec un castor. Je sais que ça fait cliché, mais ça ou les bucherons... En parlant de ça...

Here is my second bonus entry for the painting challenge, a 25mm mini from SHQ representing Hauptmann Stransky from Cross of Iron. We had to paint something related to a villain. Therefore I chose him.


Voici ma seconde entree bonus pour le challenge organise par Curt, une fig 25mm de SHQ representant Hauptmann Stransky, dans Cross of Iron. Il nous fallait peindre quelque chose en rapport avec un "villain". Et je l'ai naturellement choisi.

I had finished painting those British paratroopers just before the Christmas holidays, but didn't have time to flock them. It was done yesterday evening and I can now show them to you. Remember it was a commission job for Feodalfig, as he had won the prize draw. Now I'll be able to send them to him.


J'avais termine ces paras Warlord games juste avant les vacances. Cependant, je n'avais pu les floquer. C'est chose faite depuis hier soir, et je peux donc vous les montrer. Il s'agissait d'une "commande" de la part de Feodalfig. En effet, il avait gagne le droit de se faire peindre quelques figs lors de ma petite loterie. Je vais donc pouvoir lui envoyer.

Slightly more than 24 hours before Santa's coming. Everything is going to be pretty frantic, without a lot of painting. I have to relax a bit because I have an otitis and the medication is really strong for me (I'm not used to antibiotics). But on a lighter note, my in-laws are here to celebrate so it should be ok.



Un peu moins de 24h avant la venue de Papa Nowel. Je suppose que tout le monde va etre bien occupe, delaissant les pinceaux. De mon cote, je dois me reposer, car j'ai ecope d'une otite et le traitement est brutal pour mon systeme, car je n'ai pas l'habitude des antibios. Heureusement, ma belle-famille est la et devrait passer un bon moment.

Hi everyone. The painting challenge is finally on, and I was surprised to see entries published on the very first day. My goodness, some of you are fast. Some time ago, I had received from BigLee a parcel full of goodies I had won during his giveaway. I had chosen some medieval 28mm from PErry miniatures, carefully planning to use them during this challenge. I think it might pay off.


Salut a tous. Le challenge est enfin commence. J'ai astique mes pinceaux et je suis parti. J'ai ete tres surpris de voir des participants publier des oeuvres des le premier. Rien de dramatique, c'est juste que certains sont vraiment partis fort. Tiendront-ils la route? Il y a quelque temps, j'avais gagne des figs suite au giveaway organise par BigLee. J'avais opte pour des civils Perry, pensant qu'ils me serviraient pour ce challenge. Bien m'en prit.

5 down, 6 more to finish. Feodalfig had sent me 11 Warlord games British paras to paint. I've finally managed to paint some more, and finish the 5 of them who were wearing a beret. The other 6 wear helmets, and they should be soon finished, hopefully. I took the pictures a bit earlier and the varnish wasn't quite dry. But strangely enough, it is still a bit shiney, although I'm using a matte one. Hmm. All in all, I like them, they were easy enough to paint. But so far, I prefer the Crusader and Foundry minis. Now for the basing ...

5 de faits, plus que 6 a terminer. Feodalfig m'avait envoye 11 Paras anglais de chez Warlord. J'ai enfin reussi a en terminer 5, et les 6 autres ( qui portent un casque) sont en passe d'etre finis egalement. J'ai pris les photos un peu auparavant, et le vernis n'etait pas completement sec. il est toujours encore un peu brillant, alors que j'utilise du mat. Etrange. Les peindre fut satisfaisant. Elles sont agreables et ps trop compliquees, meme si je prefere de loin les Foundry et Crusader. Il me reste encore le soclage a faire...

I often read bloggers saying they would paint more than usual because they're on holidays. How true I would like that to be. My holidays are at the same time as my daughter's, who is 3 1/2... So, while convenient because I won't have to pay someone to take care of her, it also means I won't have time for myself, except when she's asleep from 8.45PM. And by then I'll be exhausted; she's so energetic.

Je lis souvent que les bloggueurs vont avoir le temps de peindre maintenant qu'ils sont en vacances. J'ainerais que cela soit vrai. Les miennes tombent en meme temps que ma petite, qui est une vraie pile Duracel de 3 1/2 ans. Bref, si c'est economique, c'est crevant et surtout je ne peux prendre le pinceau qu'a partir de 20.45, une fois qu'elle dort, et donc je suis un chouia mort de fatigue. Donc on verra.

I managed to finish painting my test mini for Feodalfig. I quite like the way I did it. I listened to your advices and looked on the internet too. To be honest, it was quite easy. As soon as I have enough time, I'll post the recipe/ colours I used: I've started writing down my combinations in a file simply called " Seb's cookbook". If you like this mini, tell me and I'll post my palette. Hmm, after having seen those pics, I've found a few mistakes. Damned!

The week-end is almost there, and with it the prospect of evening painting sessions. Hmmmm. But before that, Imanaged to finish painting two more bowmen for my 28mm army. So, why did I write "uninspiring" then? Well, to be honest, I've been slightly disappointed by this Foundry pack. The minis look almost identical, which is a shame. On the other hand, I got it on a discount, so... They still look good to me, but I didn't have any inspiration for the shield, so, sorry about that. On the left one, I tried to paint a squinting eye. After all, you need to close one of your eye to adjust your sight.

Le week-end approche, et avec lui la promesse de soirees de peinture. Miam. Mais en attendant, j'ai reussi a peindre mes deux archers pour en faire des tirailleurs. J'ai ete assez peu inspire sur ce coup, je ne savais pas trop quoi faire pour les boucliers. Desole. De plus, les poses sont quasi-identiques. Dommage, surtout pour des tirailleurs, mais je ne vais pas faire mon difficile vu que je les ai eus en soldes. J'ai egalement essaye de peindre l'un d'entre eux avec un oeil clos, plus facile pour viser ;)

The week doesn't seem to have started well. I had an interview last week, the first one in 10 months. They told me I would get an answer this week-end. Well, we're halfway through the new week, and still no answer. F****. Am I going to stand 10 more months without any proper job?

Ah well. After having primed some 28mm minis, I started with the four skirmishers, and I managed to finish two of them, two slingers from Foundry. They had some flash, especially one, and despite my efforts, I found new molding lines after the primer. Sh**!

Anyway, here they are. I tried a new recipe for the flesh, and I quite like it, so I'll keep it. Cheers.

Right. First of all, Johnny Rosbif has reached the 100k milestone, and is doing a book giveaway. The 4 books he's offering look interesting enough for you to drop by and give it a try.

Now, onto business. I've decided to continue painting my 28mm army, and this time, I've primed enough minis to paint a phalanx unit. I've also added 4 skirmishers, and I think I'll start with them. In the background, you can see the first based minis. it's not completely finished, but should be done this week.

If I find enough time to paint a bit, blogging hasn't been on my priority list lately, as you can imagine. I've been busy giving last minute lessons to pupils right before their exams, and with my IT evening lessons, well, let's just say I rather going to bed, reading a book, or paint a layer or two on my minis.

I've managed to finish, a few days ago, two more Mounted companions for my Hellenic army. As usual now, they're from Foundry. Now, all I need to do is base them, and then, onto my next batch: 28mm pikemen, or 15mm slaves. Don't know yet.

I've spent the last few days painting new 28mm for my Successor army. I really like the idea of the 100 Ancients painting club at the lead adventure forum. Nothing like a comman project to keep you motivated. So, after my four skirmishers, it was time to go mounted. And here is the first one from a group of three which will be mounted on a base, to represent a unit of heavy cavalry for Art de la guerre.

 J'ai passe les derniers jours a continuer la peinture de mon armee 28mm. Franchement, rien de mieux qu'un projet commun, comme celui du LAF ou du forum jeuxdeguerre pour entretenir les pinceaux. Cette fois j'ai decide de faire des montes, et voici donc le premier compagnon d'un groupe de trois pour faire ma petite plaquette.

I'm in a good mood. My painting mojo seems to be back. And indeed I've finished another Foundry miniature. It's a javelinman from the same blister. Once again, I've tried a free hand on the shield. I think I'm getting there. Painting 28mm is very different to what I'm used to. I know I've painted some Gripping Beast stuff, but it's not the same. This time, I really enjoy it, and want to try some experiments.


J'ai l'impression que mon envie de peindre revient. J'ai en effet termine une nouvelle fig de chez Foundry, un nouveau javelinier. La encore, le bouclier est peint de mes blanches mimines, et je vous avoue y prendre vraiment du plaisir. Certes j'ai deja peint des Gripping Beast, mais bof. La par contre, c'est completement different. J'ai meme envie de faire des experiences de peinture, c'est vous dire. Bref le voici, et a venir, de la cavalerie:

Now, yesterday evening, I went to the club because Tamsin was hosting a game of X-Wing. I liked it. It's fun, quite fast, and I also managed to play with the Millenium Falcon. Dear me, it's huge. I also gave her her prize and received mine too. My Spartans... I can't say "shiny" because theyre' plastics, but... Shinyyyyyyyy

Enfin, hier, j'ai pu aller au club profiter un peu de mon temps libre, j'ai pu jouer a X-Wing. C'est un jeu plaisant, rapide et j'ai pu jouer avec le Faucon pilote par Chewbacca rhhhhhhh. Tamsin organisant les parties, j'ai pu lui donner son cadeau et j'ai recu le mien. Ben franchement, je sena que je vais m'amuser. Et si vous continuez a lire ce billet, vous remarquerez que j'ai egalement peint une autre fig Foundry ;)

I learned a few hours ago that there is a gas leak in our building. So National grid has shut everything off, meaninf we don't have any heating, hot water nor cooking fire... Hopefully it will be resolved fast.

This is the second minis from a batch of four. I intend to paint a few skirmishers first, before starting the heavies. So far, I enjoy it, but I must remember to finish my Spartacus army first, or... Anyway. For this second mini, I wanted to add something extra. And if you look closely, you'll see that the slinger has shaved for a few days ;)

Hi everyone.

As you know, I'm tempted to paint 28mm stuff. So, as I've been weak, I've bought many Foundry figures on ebay, and I'm now spainting them, just for fun and to improve my painting. I have to say I'm quite pleased of the result. The minis is not based yet, because I need another one to complete my skirmisher unit.

Et voila, je plonge lentement mais surement dans le monde du 28mm. J'ai achete pas mal de Foundry sur Ebay, et pour me faire la main, je commence a peindre, avec tout d'abord un tirailleur.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the lack of post this week. I've either been busy working or taking care of my daughter. The poor child has chicken pox.  I still manage to paint a bit for Curt's painting challenge, and here is one of my last entry: the ronin.
They're from Black hat miniatures and were easy to paint (pheww). First, the red one is for Curt. It was the condition to enter the comp.

Bonjour a tous, et desole pour l'absence de post durant la semaine. J'etais plutot occupe, soit par le boulot, soit par ma fille qui est a la maison a cause de la varicelle. J'arrive quand meme a peindre un peu, et voici donc une de mes dernieres entrees pour le concours de peinture de Curt, les ronin. Ce sont des Black hat miniatures, et sont plutot faciles a peindre. La premiere que voici est le prix a payer pour participer.
