Awesomed By Comics Podcast Episode #145

Hey! You know what? This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Horse Quotes, which we invite you to send in at your earliest convenience. We talk a little bit about the last couple weeks of books, recap the best and not-so-best of what we saw at SDCC, AND do our usual show about this week's books! It's like getting one and a quarter shows for the price of having to wait an extra two weeks! Which is not a very good deal at all! Venom, Gotham City Sirens, and Ultimate Fallout were all standouts this week, as were the first Ultimate Fallout and the debut of the all-new, all-not-miserable-anymore Daredevil. Meanwhile, an Eevee family was adorable and Dan DiDio was a colossal jackass at SDCC, but it appears DC is at least going to make an effort to address some of the concerns raised during its panels. (although we learned that too late to talk about it on the show.) Plus other stuff which I forget what it was because we recorded this a thousand days and three billion time zones ago.

Download/subscribe to the show here or in the right sidebar, and leave an iTunes review! Tell us what you think in the comments, and please always remember that you are more than welcome to list your own winners for our categories in the comments. Hell, you can list your own categories for our winners, for all we care. Or list your own winners for your own categories, from your own books. Whatever you want to do.

Covers of the week:

Eevee Family

(L-R: Umbreon, Eevee, Espeon, Flareon)

Ultimate Fallout 3

Daredevil 1 (from last week)

Venom 5

Oh and also here's Morty, which was awesome.

And you should probably all be aware that this happened too.

Also who wants to see ZOO PICTURES?!?!?! You say that YOU DO? Well then here are some!!

And some highlights from Friday night's baseball game:

Awesomed By Comics Podcast Episode #139

Boy, this is a weird one. And not in an especially memorable way, except that we do break into Bobby Darin's Beyond the Sea partway through. Evie's sick as this, this, this and this this week, and didn't have the energy to both make her list AND do the show, so we did the show just based off of Aaron's list, with Evie never having to exercise her veto power except for the categories where Image's The Mission #4 won stuff, because she hasn't been reading that. But she should be, as should all of you, because it's good, but I don't want to tell you what it's about because that would ruin some of the surprise. Also FF, Catwoman, Strange Adventures and X-Men win, while Green Lantern and Secret Avengers lose in ways that are trite and goofy, respectively.

Oh and also, there's a brief technical hiccup where we lost the signal to the studio from our living room. SEE IF YOU CAN SPOT IT. (hint - I replaced the silence with the pokemon battle music, some cats and a gong.)

Oh and also also, If I were a betting man, which I am not, which is good because I would lose a lot of money based on how bad I am at cell phone poker, but that's beside the point, I would bet on there not being a show next week as I'm heading to Atlanta on Sunday. But you never know, stranger things have happened. Like this fish. That's a strange fish. And clearly it has happened.

ABC Podcast #130 PLUS PLUS PLUS!!

This SWEAR-FREE episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by maybe the dumbest thing we've ever done on this show, although I predict a handful of you will say we'll eclipse even that about 26 minutes later.* Many. many wins for two great books led by two of comics' most heroic teddy bears; Max from The Stuff of Legend, and J. Jonah Jameson. Plus Ennis' soccer-mom Punisher, Jaime's red light red light red light GREEN LIGHT, and even if we can't have Runaways, at least we get their parents.

* We value** your opinions.

** This is honestly not sarcasm at the moment, but we reserve the right to ask you to read it as such, should the need arise.

ABC Podcast, Episode #115 plus visual aids

This long-awaited episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by oh hey hello, how have you been in the three weeks since we've done a show? Any graduations, engagements, birth announcements? Really??? That's awesome!!! Yes we are back, after some work travel and music travel and some that was both at once. We unsurprisingly heap unending praise on Spider-Girl, Thunderbolts (except for ONE BAD THING) and Morning Glories, and perhaps somewhat surprisingly enjoy us a lot of Batmans. We also give mad ups to Superman-Batman, which is neither surprising nor unsurprising unless you also read it and know us at all, in which case, duh. There's a discussion about the new Harry Potter movie, and Aaron needs video game recommendations!

ABC Podcast, Episode #114 plus visual aids

This Halloween episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the combined forces of Lord Byron, John Stamos and the undead. Major awards this week go to the adorable Ultimate Spider-Man, the super duper adorable Hellboy/Beasts of Burden one-shot, the fierce and surprising Amazing Spiderman, and Tom Fowler's portrayal of Chris and Euge in Deadpool Team-Up. We talk about "Red," the movie that has about as much to do with the comic it was based on as this one does, and alert you that at least one of us will be out of town for the next two weeks, but we'll have at least one special thing with which to hold you over in the mean time.

ABC Podcast Episode #93 plus visual aids

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the pop art commercialization of an ancient fable. In a week with WAY, WAY, WAY more comics than anyone should have to read in a week, Siege finishes up without incident, the Heroic Age kicks off with the most worthy of champions, Booster Gold is funny again, the Unwritten is predictably stellar, pets have accidents, and the Sentry's farewell is somethin else alright. We extend a thank you and welcome to new listeners and then proceed half-cocked, and the thesaurus plays an integral role.

Before we get to the comics visuals, here's that terrifying Lidsville theme that Aaron insisted I post. Seriously, you will question your own humanity after watching this:

ABC Podcast Episode #70 ON LOCATION UPSTATE BOYEEE and LOTS AND LOTS OF VISUAL AIDS

SO, ONCE AGAIN...pardon our appearance as we try out a new logo, please give your yeas and nays in the comments... This very special episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Fun Facts About Rochester, NY, where we have recorded the show on location at (a hotel a few miles away from) the Strong National Museum of Play. In addition to an exhibit on American Comic Book Heroes and the National Toy Hall of Fame, the museum houses a fully stocked '80s video arcade, a supermarket just for kids, a fantastic interactive Sesame Street exhibition, and enough wandering toddlers to feed a medium-sized nation. Big winners in the comics department this week include Detective Comics, Wonder Woman, Beasts of Burden, Ares, Dominic Fortune, Angela Robinson's The Web, and New Avengers, and hilarious, exasperated furor is reserved for the likes of Blackest Night and JLA. Be sure to peruse the exciting visual offerings below, as there is far more this week than the typical.

Bonus Crap of the Week Link: Here is way more than everything you will ever need to know in a thousand lifetimes about the film Lambada, relevant to this week's Crap of the Week discussion vis a vis Paco "Vibe" Ramone. God I want to die just writing all of that. Anyway, the link above is from something I wrote in 2004 after watching the movie, apologies for the hue and context and quality, etc. You'll know what I mean.

Choke on This Turktopus, Peter Parker: Lest you think Aaron and I are completely those crazy-comic-book-black-sheep-of-the-family types, here is what brother-in-law Chris spent several weeks and trips to Home Depot building for his Halloween costume this year, which we finally saw on Thanksgiving between potatoes and pie. Aaron's sister went as Black Cat, but we didn't ask her to put that on because Aaron would have thrown himself out the window, obviously.

Museum! Of! Play!

THESE ARE COCOONS HOLY SHIT

And finally, some of my favorite inductees in the National Toy Hall of Fame:
