Just Lil Guys

Description
Now you can play as the "little guys" that were part of other portraits. Who's to say that the tiny caterpillar things aren't actually sapient, or that the drones can't be in charge. Maybe I WANT to play a literal Parliament of Owls!

Each portrait requires access to the vanilla version - Machine age for the caterpillar thing (with tendrils), toxoids for the drones, biogenesis for the worm thing (with no tendrils) and plantoids for the owls.

The other birds from that portrait's female version have no independent moving parts so wouldn't be very good in this mod.

Yes, they all float in the air for some reason. Maybe they're psionic. Except the robots, they probably aren't.

Have fun!

The little slugs are great with rogue servitor empires because you can have the robots carry them around and the bio-trophy pops be the slugs themselves

The picture in the species selection is one of the areas where it is used, yes. Also in the leader menus there's a medium zoom. It's like a cropped version of the full portrait. I originally thought that I'd only need to remove the old main species and make duplicate portraits in the menus, but when I tested them you couldn't see anything in the menu thumbnails, and I had to adjust settings until it showed the new focus properly. That wouldn't be possible if they're zipping around the whole time. Unfortunately you can't use a separate image for those views as far as I can tell.

Why do you need to adjust the camera or zoom in? I was thinking they were hyperactive little fly creatures/mechs.
I was assuming you just removed the main species from the portraits.

If you mean the picture in the grid where you select species, wouldn't a snapshot work? Or perhaps a little .gif of them with one beat of wings.
You'd get the full fly-around effect in the main top view when you clicked on it.

My apologies for missing the females' birds part in your description.
Sad that they don't have animations. They are much more colorful!

@MenilliteZ I did not include the synthetic machine #2 because it would be impossible to adjust the "camera" in the thumbnails to zoom in on the fliers, and they're very simply animated.

As mentioned in the description, the female plantoid's birds don't have any separate parts; they just rock back and forth so they would be very boring, while at least the owls can flap their wings.

Also, the owls are only from the males of those plantoids... what about the birds from the females?

Maybe they could be the same species, the owls being the males, and the player could set their empire to all 1 gender if they only want 1 set.

Does it include the little flyers that zoom around from the Machine Age's "Synthetic Machine #2"?

(shows it next to the neck of the main species, but normally it zooms around)

That would be awesome! I don't see them in your list.
