A few steps back compared to Nioh 1 and 2 but the step forward in combat is a giant leap that elevated the experience immensely. If you have any reason to play this game it would be the combat alone. This is without a doubt one of the best combat systems ever created.

Not the best in terms of tactical gameplay (since they encourage pure DPS rushdown) but also not nearly as much of an issue that the negative reviews here are claiming.

You pretty much only have to fight the boss on equal terms for like a quarter of their HP each time. On the first encounter these things will start doing spawn gate -> escape as soon as they hit 75% HP, so if you plan your shots right you have three free actions where you can shoot at it, one to bring it down to under 75%, one as it spawns the gate, one as it's escaping. The next encounter will start from where you left off, where it's most likely about 40% HP or less. Making use of free actions/chain shots and they should go down quickly without being able to cause too much damage. With proper setup you can fight these things without having to deal with any other enemies at the same time.

And if you're not into that, just bring a Reaper. The higher the Reaper's rank the more trivial these fights become. The bosses will sit still for you to hit as long as the Reaper isn't detected.

This is one of my favorite video games of all time. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is VERY CLEARLY not for everyone.
But it's an experience worth having if you miss the childlike wonder of exploration often lost in most games these days.

Embrace the void, stranger.

(Also play Zeroranger for the complete story, that game is equally good if you ask me.)

I think its misleading to think that the rewards are the main issue with this game. I mean yeah it depends on how you deal with FOMO gacha stuff but it's generous enough if you do daily/weekly missions. (I say this as someone who also complained about how stingy the game was at launch).
The main problem right now is probably the wacky balancing and how RNG-based the game can be with a lot of the decks. That and the expansion is coming way too fast.
Why recommend then? It's consistently fun still. Having a blast playing even now. Games like this can always be improved so here's a thumbs up just to ease the negativity a little.

Lies of P: Overture

+ It's more Lies of P.
+ Great lore & story. Seeing the origin of everything in the main game was super cool and emotional. Questlines are good with more choices to lie. When they revealed what the final boss was gonna be I was screaming. The final area was peak as ♥♥♥♥.
+ Insane art direction and enemy design. Body horror fans will absolutely adore everything here. Though certain segments may look bland, whenever an area is visually cool it looks amazing. Great environmental storytelling just like the main game.
+ Great level design that also complements the type of environment used. The zoo and the carnival felt like real places.
+ Just like the main game, elites are boss fights on their own. A few of the elites are repurposed from the main game, but with new unexpected moves. There's a deliberate effort to make a lot of elites close to checkpoints too so they feel even more like actual bosses.
+ New weapons and Legion arms are fun. Devs experiment with some exotic ideas and it does pay off. There's a freaking rocket launcher btw
+ Great bosses overall. That final boss is the best boss in the whole game for me.
+ Good music obviously. Makes a lot of moments super powerful.

- Convoluted way to start that can either 1) make you repeat a huge chunk of the game just to access and 2) NG+ balance can be wacky (not in your favour). I was lucky to have a completed NG file and I think its the intended experience as far as balancing goes.
- Enemy density is quite high in some areas. Nothing as outrageous as base game last chapter but it almost got there for certain parts.
- Pacing issue. Just like the base game there are certain parts where you'll be dungeon crawling for a good hour or two before seeing a boss.
- I wanted more...

Super fun game despite rough edges in terms of balancing, story and unit customization. Love the additional objectives and turn limits. Combat mechanics are addictive with the constant management of buffs and debuffs, plus a lot of fun abilities to use.

Metaphor is one of the best JRPGs and feels like a natural evolution of the neo-Persona formula, with gameplay improvements on all aspects. The pacing of the game is much more well-done with a more fine-tuned balance between dungeon crawling, combat and its social sim elements. The writing in general, while still very anime, is much less corny and more grounded in comparison. These are in addition to addictive combat, satisfying animation and seamless progression, making for a package that is consistently enjoyable throughout.

But it should be mentioned that the game does feel like it was supposed to be a lot more, however. The story feels rushed towards the end with a lot of sloppily executed wrap-ups, there's a clear sign of cut content with a story arc that's skipped immediately to its conclusion. Atlus clearly has an improved version in mind and we all know how that is going to go, and I am not a big fan of such ideas.
