This is another one of those game's for me that could have been something legitimately amazing but because of what can only be described as blistering incompetence is more bad than good.

It reminds me a lot of Alien Isolation. The setting is incredible. Scary. Tense. Claustrophobic. The world being interactable is a very interesting concept and it reminds me a little of Bioshock which is a game that to this day is one of my favorites. I like how the items are scarce too. In my opinion it is a lot more atmospheric that way. I also love the way you can "check yourself for injuries." That was a really cool and realistic feature.

Now the things that I don't like... Just like Alien: Isolation the "Monster" is FAR too aware at all times. For a monster that is "supposed to dynamically react to the sound you make" it sure does come out literally every couple of minutes and often times to your exact location. Mind you that this is with no audio or visual queue whatsoever.

Now pair this with the fact that there are 2 save points in the entire game. Yeah... no joke. I know what you're thinking. Isn't that just blazingly, hilariously incompetent? Yes. It is. They really somehow didn't draw that conclusion though. You're going to have a lot of fun "playing the game" for hours without making any kind of real progress because again:
The monster is seemingly aware at all times even without visual or audio queues
AND
There are 2 save points in the entire game.

This is unfortunately what happens when game developers want to artificially increase the length of the game without actually doing any real work.

There is also one particular area, "The Tunnels," which I really wish they expanded upon more. It's an area where there's some kind of magic creating illusions with floating rocks and silhouettes of monsters hiding in smoke. The problem is that, past this stuff, the game doesn't explain anything at all about the magic? Or how it ties into the world at all? Why? Why have an area like this and then explain nothing about it whatsoever? Not to mention that the whole area is a huge puzzle in smoke. You have to move boxes around and jump up to different areas and stuff. It comes across as just another way to artificially increase the length of the game... again without actually adding anything substantial.

Now here it the part of the game that really was the "nail in the coffin" for me. There is an area towards the very end of the game where it's basically a final confrontation with the monster in a huge open space. The area itself is actually really cool and it's a nice contrast with the rest of the game. (taking place inside the bunker) Sort of like the tunnels area, you have to get to the end without the monster noticing you and move the boxes to jump over a wall.

Now if I told you that there is a scripted event as soon as you move a box, where regardless of the monsters current position it instantly runs full speed towards you, you wouldn't believe me right? Like no way, right? They can't be that incompetent, right? No way. There's no way the monster a half mile away from me is sensing me move a box an inch right? Yes. Yes way. I had to google this part because I literally could not move a box without it knowing where I am at all times. Apparently, you are supposed to use a grenade or shotgun blast on one of the bridges to drop the monster in the abyss. This is a cool concept, except the game does nothing to even imply that it's possible?... Imagine having to google a solution to something that should be as simple as sneaking past and moving some boxes because the developers added a hidden "trigger" when you do... the seemingly intended solution...? Again, for me, this was the real "Yeah this game actually just sucks" moment.

Games like this are particularly hard for me to write negative reviews for because, again, it seriously could have been not just good but amazing. The developers took a good game with solid bones and proceeded to twist and snap them until it was nothing but a mangled corpse.

That's the best way I could describe this game.

As much as I would like to recommend this game, there are some reasons that i can't. This game is by far the emptiest saints row I've ever played and is best described as a stripped down SR4. It's somewhat like SR4 but with less crowd variety, cars, the lack of any meaningful customization, less side quests and fun/engaging things to do, a significantly downgraded and predictable storyline, and some other problems. I think the wings and the flying stuff is super dope but the story is just non-existent and the gameplay loop is largely the same. I am not kidding when I say that the majority of the game is flying around collecting "soul clusters" to upgrade abilities. It has some redeeming qualities but it just isn't good overall. I don't understand how the ratings of it are so high frankly. I believe saints row 4 is a much better game.

saints row 2 really will always be the undisputed GOAT of the series.

The Last of Us is a fantastic game about personal loss and finding peace in a world gone to hell from a virus outbreak. From the very start of the game it does an amazing job of painting the world as bleak, dark and cruel. People being shot to death in the streets, hung and gutted, gunned down by armored vehicles. Joel (the main protagonist) lost his little girl at the start of the outbreak, and this event noticeably affects him even many years later. Who was once a loving father is now a man willing to do absolutely any and everything to survive. Along his journey, he is tasked with transporting a little girl who is said to be immune, who is also an orphan. Her name is Ellie. Over time, Ellie increasingly reminds Joel of his humanity, even if not purposefully, and sparks a long-dormant sense of fatherdom that Joel didn't even know he still possessed. Even though it isn't particularly said, you can observe a love - the sort of love a father has for his daughter - developing throughout the course of the game.

A broken man discovers that what he has "wanted" isn't actually what he wanted at all. And I think this is why the end of the game is so emotional for so many people. No amount of guns, drugs, or money could ever replace Ellie, for Joel.

I'm excited to eventually play part 2!

It is pretty fun but I cannot recommend it in it's current state. Frequent crashes. Bugs. Major difficulty problems.

I finally figured out how to play this game. The trick that really made the combat click was "wait until your attack is deflected to know you can no longer attack and must start blocking incoming strikes." I was dying countless times over and over because I did not know when it was my turn to attack or when I should be focusing on blocking. That little tip right there made it click.

Still a really hard game though. You might poop your pants a lil playing it.

Very good game and a refreshing change of pace from what I normally play. Lots of wacky encounters and the gatlians are all super cool. Would recommend.

Pretty good game that tries a lot of new things but in my opinion far too over simplified versus BioShock 1, which remains my favorite in the series by far.

It is a good game don't get me wrong, I just prefer the more visceral atmosphere, puzzles/hacking, and story of the first game versus this one.

As somebody brand new to the Souls-Like genre, I really enjoyed Mortal Shell! It starts out a little bit grueling but as you learn the ropes it quickly becomes quite the game. Great weapons with different functionalities, "shells" that you inhabit to suit different playstyles, challenging and epic boss fights, this game has a lot of really cool things! I think it's price on sale (~3 dollars) is a complete no-brainer. The game is SOLID! If you like souls-likes you will love this!

The Outer World is a decent game that could've been really good with just a little more polish. It's a bit buggy and some things are noticeably simplified from most other games, but what it does well it really does well. The worlds are pretty cool and all look fairly different from each other. The guns are highly upgradable and the characters are fairly likable and have their own stories. The RPG elements are solid and dialogue feels pretty good. I can go on but to sum it up this game's quite alright; I think if the devs put in a couple more years it could've really been special.
