This patch is currently live on the BETA BRANCH of the game and will remain that way throughout the weekend. See here for instructions on how to access the beta branch.

- Left/Right cat selection arrows in the house behavior adjusted:

• Cats are no longer grouped by room when toggling left/right. Age only. Opening the cat selection window after a new day will select the youngest kitten regardless of if you clicked around on other cats before opening the window. Dead cats are always sorted at the end (clicking left from the youngest cat will wrap around to the end of the list).

• If you are ZOOMED IN to a room, the cat selection list is now strictly limited to cats in that room (clicking left/right will only toggle between cats in that room, and never select any cats outside of that room)

• Current list location memory should be a little bit better when moving cats to pipe/box and then continuing with arrows. Left clicking cats while the cat status window is closed will no longer effect which cat is shown when you open the cat window.

• This required a full rewrite of the left/right arrow behavior & sorting code, so if you notice any issues / inconsistencies / bugs / unintuitive behaviors related to this please let me know.

- Traps can now be triggered with physical attacks/abilities

- Added a small visual effect & alternate walk cycle for player cats with flying

- Fixed flying units not viewing fire tiles as a hazard even though it could still burn them

- Tiles adjacent to enemy rattlesnakes/hellhands now have a hazard cost for pathfinding.

- Fixed one post-game dr beanies dialog sequence getting skipped

- Captured familiars now spawn after everything else to prevent levels from instantly ending if you had 100+ charmed flies

- Fixed Freeze not protecting corpses from damage

- Fixed cases where a main quest item could get duplicated if you had multiple quest items equipped when completing one of them or unlocking a new one

- Fixed an alley level that generated a mouse in a hole (this was a new issue caused by the spawn order change from last week's patch)

- Fixed one act 3 enemy missing from the Hallucination pool

- Fixed Dark Ritual's upgrade not working

- Fixed Fish Necklace affecting enemy flies. Fish Necklace now uses Poisonous instead of its previous (effectively the same) effect.

- Fixed Tinfoil Hat not working against permanent madness/charm. Tinfoil Hat's effect now cleanses relavent effects when it's passive is applied to prevent initialization order dependency for its effects.

- Fixed a late game boss repeatedly shooting a frozen minion in some cases.

- Fixed Stalk (and similar) ability targeting from going crazy if the tracked target goes off map

- Fixed no-target ability hotkeys from deselecting if you move the mouse around on the map

- Fixed a few enemies that transform on death from being stuck at 1hp if killed while stunned (as well as 1 or two player effects that used the same passive)

- Fixed an incorrect international character in Steven's font

- Fixed "Thicken"'s statuses not having icons or tooltips.

- Stalk tooltip fixed to specify "enemy" instead of "unit"

- Fixed a few tooltips having incorrect info (Pins and Needles, Old Hose)

- (Most tooltip changes are in english only for now, this won't leave the beta branch until those are in)

- (Internal change) Localization csvs have been merged into one large file instead of 20 smaller ones at the request of the localization team. This shouldn't cause any noticable changes in game, but if anything looks off let me know!

- Misc localization fixes

This patch is focused on major bug fixes and "easy" changes that are unlikely to cause secondary issues

- Coin/Food/Item zoomers no longer prevent you from opening the backpack while they're animating

- Added "Limit Framerate" to video settings.

- "Tall" tiles now go semi-transparent when in tactical view

- Fixed item sort order upon returning from an adventure (one of the last changes pre-release was adding sort buttons to the in-combat inventory screen and this broke how they sorted upon returning home)

- If playing on steam deck, End Turn (Hotkey) is now bound to "Enter Key" by default instead of nothing. Should allow for some steam input config hacks for those who want to bind it to a back button easier.

- Fixed Copy Cat / Learn From Me being able to copy things other than spells in some cases

- Fixed Tina3's Mama Maggot and Familiar Korbee not having a portrait

- Fixed a certain very late game boss fight's summons running away when the boss died. In this particular case they weren't supposed to run.

- Fixed a few cases where an ability or passive icon in the UI would not update after being overridden by a new one (ex when using a Forbidden spell while already having 2 disorders)

- Fixed a minor odds issue related to how Stimulation affects a parent with a class passive but not a class active

- Fixed level spawn order to spawn static objects before familiars (This should fix a few cases where a familiar occupies a space a static object wants to be, causing it to spawn in a different place and sometimes blocking cats or enemies in)

- Fixed Eat Rock and Rock Crusher showing a tooltip for Petrify

- New idle animation for pet rock and pet boulder and fixed death gib

- Fixed the way Interchange interacts with Bonus Move and Bonus Attack

- Fixed a case where quitting after losing your last cat to a sacrifice event would cause a crash upon re-loading the save file

- Fixed a few flickering pieces in a cutscene

- Fixed amoebas being able to drop larger rocks partially off-map

- fixed a very late game enemy leaving an invisible corpse

- fixed Unscarred+ and Uncapped HP causing infinitely growing HP

- lowered the odds of seeing a variant version of one act 3 miniboss

- Added "texture_atlas_size" to settings file to allow for some configuration hacks for under-min-spec machines. Default is 4096. Note that lowering this will also require lowering "texture_scale_big" as well so larger textures can fit into the atlas. This will remain settings-file-only, no intent to add this to the options menu.

- Misc localization fixes

Hello! Tyler here! I've been fighting a cold this past week so this patch is slightly later than I initially expected. As much as I wanted to just push this live immediately... with nearly 100k concurrent players still I figured its PROBABLY safer to use a beta branch instead.

Here's how to opt into the beta branch on steam. Right Click "Mewgenics" in your steam library, then navigate here and enable the beta branch.

If all goes well I should push this update to the main branch tomorrow.

It’s time!

What’s left?

- Nothing really. We’re just holding that .01% so we can tune, tweak, and polish. And boy has this thing gotten a ton of polish over the last 2 weeks… everyone has really gone above and beyond. We’ve added even more cutscenes, music, transitions, and so many fixing SFX your ass will drop off!

Also, get this: Mewgenics will launch in 6 languages!

There is the potential of also doing Russian, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or others post-launch. If we do those, they should release in 3 months, which is how much time the other languages took to finish. Please let us know any other languages you want!

We are currently #94 on the wishlist charts, and that feels pretty amazing!

I really want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the fans active on social media who are making daily threads/posts/memes about the game, and RTing and sharing our gameplay videos. I’ve been watching, and you really have had our backs. I hope we can repay the favor with these contests/streams, and the game too, I guess :)

Welcome to 2026! The year of the cat!

We have been very, very busy over the holiday break because guess what? In 9 days we are sending review copies of the game to the press!

After talking to a few people who did previews and understood the scope of the game, we have decided to give writers a solid 30-ish days to really dig in deep and explore the game fully.

This month I try and best Tyler and destroy the junkyard... or do I?

So where are we now? Here is the lowdown.

• The game is done and ready for review!!!

• Localization continues. Our first batch of extra languages includes French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese. We want to have these in for launch but if they aren't ready by then, it will come shortly after. More languages will come post launch depending on demand!

What is left???

• Polish! The remaining 40 days will be spent fixing up cutscenes, adding any missing sounds, fixing bugs, and smoothing out any edges we may run into.

• Credits: The final "cutscene" still needs to be 100%, mostly gathering names and fluffing it up.

• Features Trailer: Flynn is finishing up yet another live action trailer we will be pushing on Feb 1st that will show off the game's features and say the word pussy like 100 times.

• Release Trailer: Marty is working on remaking the original Mewgenics intro theme song animation. We hope to launch that a day or two before release.

• Hype Train: Currently strategizing a way to make the last 14 days leading up to launch special for die hard fans... stay tuned.

Anyway, I might do another blog post before Feb 1st... depending on how much time I have.

Where are we now!? Here’s a little update.

• Gamepad support is complete! (The game will be 100% Deck compatible at launch.)

• Achievements have been added (though we may add more in the late polishing stages).

• All text has been sent to localizers, and localization has started!

What’s left?

• Since we finished all the required cutscenes, I’ve added one more and put our lead animator on remaking the game’s intro (the original Mewgenics trailer animation). A few of the cutscenes need to be scored, and a few others need touch-up work.

• The game’s “continue save” intro is mostly done but still in pieces. It features a randomly generated ending each time you play, so that will need some love this month.

• All the pending UI work—like the pause screen, goal markers, and reorder buttons—still needs to be added.

• The game’s credits need to be 100% finished (this may need to wait till the end of dev).

It’s not much, but it’s still a bit stressful to have these things looming. 71 days seems like a lot, but for a game this size we need to get review copies to the press 3–4 weeks before launch, so really it’s more like 40 days to finish all the major things and 31 days to polish the minor things.

But now that all that’s out of the way... IT’S TIME FOR PART 3 OF MY MEWGENICS LETS PLAY!

Will my cats be mauled? Will I get a TPK? Will I make a fool of myself? Probably... but it all makes for a great video! Go watch!

Crazy to see us under that 100-day mark.

Shit is getting real. Let me break down where we’re at.

- All of the game’s content has been added (outside of a few cutscenes).

- Localization has been prepped, all mechanical text has been re-edited (by Tyler this time), and localization has officially started!

Seems finished, right? WRONG! Here’s what we have left to do:

- Achievements (these are drawn but not implemented; roughly 300).

- 1.5 cutscenes need to be animated (and I’m adding one more since the team is a bit ahead of schedule).

- A few cutscenes still need to be scored and have SFX added.

- The game’s intro, start screen, and save menu need to be finished.

- The game’s credits roll needs to be finished.

- There are 3 bosses that need some extra polish/rebalancing.

- Pause/options menu needs to be fully implemented.

- Visual goal markers need to be added to the Pause/House screens.

- Re-order buttons and other QoL updates need to be added to the House and House menus.

- Gamepad support! (Tyler is working on this now.)

- General polish (adding missing particles, spicing up existing animations/cutscenes, etc.).

So, a few big things and a lot of little things. It’s mildly stressful to think about, but everyone’s in get-shit-done mode from here on out!

But you’re here for my stream, right? Well, guess what?! I’m not showing you my next stream—instead we’re gonna watch an edited version of Tyler’s livestream from a few weeks ago!

It’s time for yet another Let’s Play Mewgenics, with your host Average Ed (a nickname a guy I used to call Cabbage gave me... before I realized he didn’t like being called Cabbage).

ONLY 4 MONTHS REMAIN BEFORE RELEASE! 132 days if you wanna get technical.

HOLY SHIT! It’s happening! Time to do a little dev round-up to show you where we are.

- 5.5 cutscenes remain! (2 are animated but lack score/SFX)

- Everything else is in-game and functional! (woo-hoo!)

So what are we doing now, you ask?

- Testing: We’re starting the final batch of testing with other devs and trusted friends today! This will be our largest batch of testers, and they’ll be primarily focused on balance feedback and listing any missing art/animation/SFX we may have overlooked.

- Localization: We’ve partnered with Warlocs (the same team that did all the localization work for UFO 50). They will be localizing all 140,000+ words into Spanish, French, probably German and maybe more if we have time... either way im sure there will be some post launch as well.

- Gamepad/Steam Deck support: Tyler will be working on gamepad support to make sure we fully support the Steam Deck, as well as preparing the game for console ports next year!

- Polish: This is the meat of what most of the team will be hyper-focused on for the last 4 months of dev: polishing animations, adding particle effects, and making sure every aspect of the game looks smooth, polished, and lush!

- Balance: My current focus. The 3rd act of the game is a bit too difficult; with feedback from the new testers I’ll do my best to make sure average players can finish the game without a ton of issues, while still keeping it deep and challenging enough for skilled players to enjoy.
