Finally, after decades of only being able to play these games with fan translations, if at all. This, my friends, is a milestone in human history. A tremendous step forward for all mankind. And for one easy payment of ... Wow, that's a bit higher than I expected. $40? Oh well. ... $40! You, too, can be part of this moment.

All jokes aside, this is a visual novel (a "game" in which a story is told primarily through static images overlaid with dialogue boxes) with extensive turn based jrpg gameplay. I like this style of gameplay less, frankly, than their tactical games. (E.g. Kamidori, which this is a prequel to). Still, if that sounds like your jam, then this is a pretty solid example of the genre. Not exceptional, really, as a visual novel or as a turn based jrpg, but the kind of combination you don't see often. Visual novels tend to stay in their own lane, most of the time, and it's incredibly rare to see genre blending to this extent. Most Eushully games are like this - visual novels with gameplay.

There's an R18 patch you'll have to go grab if you want it. I've heard the adult scenes in this one are somewhat disconnected from the story - were patched on after release, even - but I don't know yet how true that is.

I've noticed a few issues with the translation. Nothing big - some text cutoff in tutorial boxes. A couple of typos. But otherwise it seems to be fine. (*Edit: the text cutoff has apparently been patched.)

This is my first time playing this particular game, so it's really too early for me to comment on the story or gameplay in any meaningful way. So far, the plot seems pretty straightforward. The combat fairly typical. Some minigames and such. I dunno. Whether it's worth $40 as a game, I couldn't say. I'd lean, at the moment, towards recommending it on sale if it seems to your taste.

That said, I heartily recommend encouraging the localization of Eushully games on principle, so buy ten copies and give them to all of your friends.

Wayblazer Dämmerung is an extensive fantasy RPG and a prequel to Kamidori Alchemy Meister, a famous SRPG released in 2011. Alchemy Meister was renowned for its length, elaborate story, and spicy sex scenes.
Unlike the aforementioned game, Wayblazer Dämmerung was originally released in 2024, consequently, its graphics, controls, art style, and overall quality have a modern, refined look. However, it shares a fairly complex, traditional gameplay style with an extensive map to explore, a multitude of main and secondary characters, and tough combat requiring old-school grinding.

In this game, you play as Mark, a humble Ryoshi (a monster hunter who supplies artisans) in the once-prosperous Kingdom of Mikelty. The nobles and knights have become tyrannical, oppressing the people and seizing their resources. Upon hearing that his hometown, Koteelir, is under siege, Mark rallies his friends to investigate and restore peace.
What starts as a personal quest spirals into a web of royal intrigue, demonic cults, and political upheaval with strong ties to Kamidori's lore, including key families and locations such as Yuidora.
The semi-open structure lets you roam a world map and tackle cities and events in a varied order. This leads to multiple routes: a "Law" true ending, chaotic evil paths, and more. This allows you to focus on specific plot aspects in great detail and delve deeper into events by talking to NPCs in cities, such as vendors and gunsmiths, or secondary characters prominent in those locations.
However, despite the elaborate nature of the story, which makes it impossible to summarize in a few words, all of this can only be achieved by revisiting certain dungeons and cities. This makes it exhausting to piece together the plot without having to repeatedly kill random enemies, which makes it difficult to follow amid so many "breaks."

This title's gameplay is as classic as it gets in RPGs. Explore dungeons via map movement, fight constant random encounters like in the old SNES days, grind levels and materials for crafting and gear, and build party trust for formations and skills. Combat is turn-based, and formations grant buffs. There are also SP-managed techniques and magic, as well as grid-based areas of impact. A welcome addition to combat is the automatic mode. As in current gacha games, it lets the AI fight according to predetermined combat styles, so you don't have to pay attention while grinding through the necessary levels to advance in the story. However, it's important to mention that the AI isn't very smart or optimized. As a result, the battles can be a bit "strange" or deficient. The AI doesn't always make the best decisions, which can even lead to defeat.
Setting aside the issue of automatic combat, the combat balance is chaotic, to say the least. Unlike in other RPGs, where enemies progressively level up, in this game, enemies can jump from level 7 to 12 between dungeons, and you may face hordes of up to five enemies. These enemies have varied attacks that can knock you out instantly. Therefore, it's highly recommended that you use a guide to arm yourself as best as possible by farming and crafting items. Fortunately, if you get tired of this somewhat abusive system, you can go to the "loser" dungeon, which has easy enemies that reward you with a lot of experience as well as pretty good items. However, you will receive a "loser" title if you do this.
In addition to the traditional RPG combat and crafting systems, the game features "mini-games" such as target shooting, fishing, and gathering materials with specific skills. If you've played Browndust 2, the gameplay concept may seem very familiar.

Unlike other hentai games, the main attraction of this title is not its sexual content. This is evident given that the game's R18 patch is only 500 MB, while the game itself is more than 10 GB. Nevertheless, it has a decent number of sexual scenes (with mosaic censorship), totaling 44.
The sex scenes are unlocked by gaining the affection of the heroines, completing their events, and creating bonds. So, as in other adult titles, you'll have to grind to unlock them and can't just "fall defeated" to obtain them.
All of the sex scenes are vanilla and include blowjobs, handjobs, and vaginal sex, but not anal sex. In general, they stick to the basics that all players might like. The game offers variety in this regard, as well as sex scenes with different secondary characters. Most of these characters are busty elves, so there is a wide variety to satisfy different tastes: white-haired elves, blondes, brunettes, busty elves, flat-chested elves, redheads, and black-haired elves. They also have different outfits, ranging from casual and office worker outfits to lingerie.
Regarding the quality of the sex scenes, they are good considering the artistry, Japanese voice acting for men and women, good sound effects, and 8-12 CGs per scene. The only negative aspects of the scenes are the mosaic censorship and lack of animation.

For better or worse, Wayblazer Dämmerung is a classic, old-school RPG. It has improved graphics and gameplay with welcome enhancements for novice players. However, it remains a fairly difficult title for those who are not fans of older RPGs. The amount of grinding required to advance, coupled with the lack of guidance on where to go, make it a game that is not recommended for everyone.
If you like classic RPGs or have played titles in this series before, you'll undoubtedly love this one. You'll spend more than 30 hours "enjoying" the game and relieving tension with the sex scenes featuring the large cast of female characters.
However, if you're looking for something "lighter" with easy-to-find sexual content or more relaxed gameplay, I wouldn't recommend this title because, despite being a good RPG, it costs $30, and you'll have to put in a lot of effort before seeing the first sex scene. You'll probably get tired or bored before reaching that point.
