This is a pretty faithful remake which adds some additional areas to the game as well as supplemental side quests. The atmosphere is good and the unsettling vibe that was a big part of the original is present here as well.

Unfortunately, the game is let down by some frankly abysmal levels of optimisation. The game suffers from constant and very abrupt frame drops, especially when you enter a new area. In Brookhaven hospital the game veers from 100 fps at the upper end to less than 40 fps during combat.

For the record: I switched my gpu from a 3070 ti (8gb VRAM) to a 9070XT (16gb VRAM) recently - naively thinking that the additional VRAM on a 9070XT would mean that the game would run better. It doesn't. I can get more frames at the upper end but it doesn't really matter when the game suffers from so much stuttering and frame drops that it ruins the experience for me.

I don't know if it's a UE5 problem or something else but I can't recommend the game on PC as it currently stands.
