Yes, WITH the caveat that you engaged with the Disciples III plot and circumstance and enjoyed it. The gameplay loop is slightly different, and the hostile 2002 UX can be a turn off if you were already iffy on the genre. For me personally to get fully settled in took about ~6 hours, perhaps a little more. This is not a bad first Disciples game, but if this is your first foray into the genre, I might suggest something a little more accessible.
Despite appearances, the game's story and lore is LEAGUES better than Disciples III, and I really like III. I'll say nothing about Liberation since I don't think it's comparable. The grittiness of each faction's situation is delivered well, and your actions carrying over from past levels can effect you in your future. I was engaged for exposition dumps, and individual characters had many hooks to them. I really like the character designs and how many of them break away from stereotypes (though some of them are a bit funny looking, they're their own quirks lol).
Please don't be too turned off by appearances, if you really need incentive, you can add it to your list of games you've played released prior to 2005 and feel superior.
