  • 260212 Trixie 2601-260201 is currently the smallest (1.1gb), most full featured distribution to offer the Wayland display server protocol. With over 200 applications and utilities in it's menus, including things like file managers, web browser, word processor, spreadsheet, PDF viewer, paint, screen shot, screen video capture, media players and more. It can be installed and run completely on USB flash drive, including persistence. It can also be installed on a HDD by itself or in the same partition with another Linux or even MS Windows. ```Here are hints for users wanting to try it. <<<<VENTOY>>>> ```Ventoy 1.1.10 (latest ver.) ```UEFI bios computers = boots OK ``` MBR bios computers = gets long string of "Fatal! Inconsistent data read.., but then boots normally ```<<<<<VIRTUALBOX>>>>> *This setting allows Trixie to boot: Display>Graphics Controller = VboxSVGA ```<<<<<USB INSTALL>>>>> Installing from: ```-MS Windows = use Rufus or UNetbootin (see note) ```-Other Linux = use UNetbootin (see note) ```NOTE: UNetbootin use ``` _UEFI bios computers will boot correctly if secure boot is disabled ```_MBR bios computers require deleting or renaming this file on the USB: ucode.cpio ```Also note that Balena Etcher, DD, or any installer the creates an ISO9660 format USB is not recommended and will most likely fail. ```
  • Unfortunately, the latest version of Trixie is absolutely broken. Tried on virtualbox, virtual machine manager, with the iso directly on a usb drive, with Ventoy, with Balena Etcher, and none allowed me to even access the start screen. Never had the problem with older Puppy Linux distros like Bookworm, Noble pup, Slackware or void based.
  • I really want to try either the Wayland or Retro version of TrixiePup64, but they both seem to have mis-configured boot files. All I get upon booting up the USB is "Booting 'find /menu.lst, /boot/grub/menu.lst, /grub/menu.lst'" and then GRUB4DOS ... and a grub> prompt. Trying to escape back and edit the first line doesn't work. If I try booting with UEFI enabled, I get a message about no EFI file found, blah, blah, blah. Oh, and I was misled into thinking that the ISO had both the Wayland and the Retro stuff, but there are two different ISOs. Neither work. Boo-hoo! I TRIED going to the Puppy Linux Forum and TRIED to register, but the li'l quiz at the bottom kept telling me I gave a wrong answer. (All the quzzes seem to be punk rock band stuff, FWIW. :-) ) So here I am writing a "review".
  • Thank you peabee for keeping alive the puppy philosophy.Best regards,Amol
  • And another really good Puppy, from peabee-as always. Thank you.
