  • I used Etcher first on a linux laptop with USB 2.0 ports. The writing went slow and aborted too. As Etcher is a cross platform tool, I then decided to use a MacBook Pro laptop with a USB 3.0 port and a Sandisk Ultra Flair USB 3.0 drive and the writing went at least 4 times faster and completed successfully. Also, as USB 3.0 drives are backward compatible, I booted it on my linux laptop with USB 2.0 port and it booted successfully. Hope, this helps someone, facing similar problems. Thank you Balena Etcher. P.S. This USB 3.0 drive ( connected via a Portronics MPORT 31C 4-in-1 USB Hub ) gave me read speeds of nearly 150 MB/S and write speeds of 20 MB/S. Also, to prevent Mac laptop from sleeping in between, I used this tool : sourceforge.net/projects/stop-mac-ipad-smartphone-sleep/

  • Open-source isn't equivalent to free. Sybase Open Watcom is stronger than AGPL, but it's NOT free, it's open-source. Therefore, licenses with weak copyleft can produce free software, licenses with strong copyleft can't. AGPL is weaker than Sybase's license.
