Renpad Backup News

Yes it has been a fair length of time since the last update. This has partly been due to work and personal things.

This beta version addresses the issues in the previous beta where some backups would fail or execute without any user feedback. Please head over to https://sourceforge.net/projects/renpadbackup08/ to download your copy today. Or you can use the 'check for update' function in Renpad Backup From Version 1.0.1.8 and up.

The latest Beta of Renpad Backup has been release. This version fixes many bugs in the application as well as improving on performance and reliability. It has been released as Beta status as there have been many changes to the core of the application. I don't anticipate issues but you never know. Please submit any bugs you encounter to the bug tracker.

A new beta version of renpad backup is coming soon. Stay tuned for the release.

This release is just bug fixes and optimisations. No new features have been added.

This is a Major Release, it‘s recommended that you upgrade as soon as possible as many issues have been corrected.

Major New Features
o Now has an Advanced Automation engine to run backups on specified days at specified times.
o Now Compatible with Windows 2000 SP4 using the .Net Framework 2.0 SP1 or higher.
o Now has the ability to update an archive and create a differential archive.
Minor New Features
o Now shows the actual file icon in the Backup Wizard instead of the generic icon. For easier identification of files.
o You can now drag and drop files, folders and drives into the file list in the backup wizard.
o Will now give the user the option to redirect to the website if the update fails.
o More intelligent update notification. Now highlights the new features and fixes in each new release of renpad backup.
o New commandline parameter –setthemed turns on the New Renpad Theme engine in the settings instead of on a per load basis.
o Added Context Menu to the Renpad Drive Backup Utility for easier application use.
o New commandline parameter –noupdate turns off the startup update check in the options window.
o Now has support for Windows ME using the .Net Framework 2.0.
Please Note: Renpad Backup is not expressly designed to run with Windows ME therefore some issues may arise (Compatibility is kept only because the .Net Framework 2.0 supports Windows ME), if you encounter a bug please log a bug report at the location specified in the notes section.
o When creating a backup that already exists on the hard drive the backup will now ask if the user wants to overwrite the file instead of failing the backup. If no response is recieved within 10 seconds it will assume the response is yes to overwrite.

o Changed main update window to fit with the other dialogs in the update utility.

o Will now show the main application window upon starting a second instance of Renpad Backup instead of throwing an error message.

Bug Fixes
Minor Bugs
o Various Minor Bits to get Renpad Backup to Run on Windows 2000 SP4 and the .Net Framework 2.0 SP1.
o Fixed potential crash when trying to open the help file when it is missing.
o Fixed bug in RIB generator that causes the data to be duplicated in the file.
o Fixed data build up errors in the backup wizard when running the backup more than once from the same backup wizard window.
Harmless
o Fixed Bug in size calculator that would incorrectly return the drives size if the drive is larger than a terabyte
o Fixed double backslash bug when creating an archive in the root of a drive. Does not Affect the operation of the backup, just looks messy.
o Fixed some grammatical issues throughout the program.
o Removed some un necessary error messages that clog the error log
o Fixed residual data issue when running a backup twice form the same backup wizard window.
Known Issues
o Windows ME has no command line switch functionality due to possible restrictions in the operating system.
Notes
- There still may be some compatibilty issues with Windows ME and 2000 SP4. So if you try to do something and it does not do what you expected then it is most likely a bug.

Today marks the first officially stable release of Renpad Backup 2008.
In this release, there have been a number of small changes to the applications interface and operation. However, under the hood the Renpad Backup has been totally restructured so that the program is smaller, more responsive, more functional, and most importantly more stable.
Specifically the various Renpad libraries such as the bLibMan and bLib have been merged into a single RenpadAPI.dll allowing for easier development with the DLL.

This beta brings a new feature that automatically checks for updates so that you can always have the latest version.

Beta 3 has been released, it fixes some issues as well as adding a new backup recovery utility so that you can extract your backups.

I have been hard at work on the previous beta and have discovered a Critical Bug that can seriously bog down your system. This Update addresses that issue as well as others.
