Looking for admins

It's been a while since I checked in here. I don't actively work on Odyssey anymore, though I do use some its code on new projects.

If you've been using Odyssey and want to help make it grow send me an email, I can make you a project admin. I'm looking for people who want to keep this project alive.

1.0 Code Ready, but in need of cross-platform support

Most of the changes for 1.0 are done. They are checked into the SVN. I am holding off on a full release because I want odyssey to be a cross-platform library. Unfortunately, I am having trouble getting it compiling with gcc 4. I'm going to keep working on it, but any help is appreciated and requested! Feel free to grab it out of SVN!

OIS 1.0RC1 !!!

OIS, the input library that Odyssey depends on, has released an initial release candidate for version 1.0. This was one of the major things I was waiting for before releasing an SDK version of Odyssey 1.0.

Just so everyone knows, up-to-date versions of Odyssey, including planned 1.0 features, are available from the SVN repo. There aren't too many more things I have left to do before a full SDK release of Odyssey is ready. If you can't wait, grab the latest from SVN and start cracking! I've been using it for some time now and I can promise it is very stable and feature rich.... read more

Close to 1.0

Recently, Odyssey has been getting a workout from several different projects. This is good, as it means the framework is being well-tested. It isn't so good because development is slow.

Luckily, the items I wanted to finish before releasing version 1.0 are almost complete. Some stuff has been slipped in that wasn't planned while a few others are getting left behind.

I think the worst abandonment that will happen is that I cannot claim Odyssey is fully cross-platform in time for 1.0. I no longer have machines to test odyssey for other operating systems. There are only a few places where it is dependent on windows, and hopefully in future releases it will be fully cross-platform.

Nearing a new release

I'll be releasing version 0.3 very soon (this week). I've uploaded a new design doc to keep to sated. I'm just making a few small changes before this new release.

Don't worry, we're almost out of Beta now, and I really will get to work on more documentation when the fall gets here.

Bug fixes and planned 0.3 release

We're moving towards a 1.0 release of Odyssey. There will still be a 0.3 release first. I'm trying to collect my thoughts on the "final image" of the engine, and it is looking fairly complete.

For now, there are some tweaks and bug fixes that should be SVN. They will be in 0.3 release, but I think everyone should grab the latest source now to fix these issues. They are subtle timing and synchronization issues that may cause unexpected errors that are hard to trace. Grab it now to avoid all that.

V0.2 is here!

I've uploaded the newest version of Odyssey. There are tons of good stuff in there. You should check out the updated API docs.

As promised, the license has been changed to the MIT license. Also, Reaction has been taken down until further notice.

Right now, I'm revising the design doc to reflect the current architecture and direction of Odyssey. Keep watching for updates about version 0.3!

Inching toward v0.2

As August nears, I am turning my attention back towards Odyssey, and to Reaction as well as both a personal implementation of Odyssey's framework, and as an example. Odyssey is nearing v0.2 completion (as defined on the Odyssey wiki's outline). A few things are coming up along with, or around, this release.

-Reaction will be released from my website, and remain closed source until further notice.
-I will begin the process of adopting a looser license for Odyssey (either MIT or zlib).
-A possible second developer will help speed Odyssey toward a 1.0 release.
-Odyssey may need a name change. This could either be a completely different name, or just a modified one.

Site is back and new Design Doc

The move is over and the site is back up. I also updated the design doc.

Webpage down

My homepage for this and related projects is down right now. I have moved, and until I can figure out a network hookup I cannot serve my wiki.

I am trying to fix this as soon as possible.

Errors in Beta source version

The Beta version uploaded to SVN is missing some files. This has been fixed and is being uploaded, along with small code changes, as version 0.1.1. A new compiled and source release version will available in the files section as well later tonight. Look for Reaction and the Demo to be released tonight or tomorrow.

BETA released

Odyssey version 0.1 has been released. The SVN has been updated, and there is a file release available as well. Reaction will be available soon.

Status update

I've uploaded to SVN Odyssey revision 5. This has all the major, stablizing changes mentioned in the last news item. Feel free to check it out. The source version may be difficult to set up as there's little detailed implementation documentation. I've moved on to actually producing the promised feasibility demo (as in content production). It will be ready soon. The demo will be released when it's ready, and shortly after I will be releasing the first public Beta (0.1, codenamed Hastings). By then I should also have my own webserver for wiki hosting.... read more

IMPORTANT

Current source in the repository should not be used! Changes are being made in the design which will change the way the Model View and Controller interact. View system will be modified to be more analagous to Components, as well as a few other interface breaking changes. Wait for an update.

Updated source

New source added. Tweaks and some new features have been added to the framework. Working on finding a file system for the core as well as getting that demo out.

First public source

I have just committed the source for the Odyssey Framework. The subversion directory for the commit is in odyssey/trunk. The doxygen docs linked from within the home page are also updated (with a little more comments).

Data system implemented

The new generic data systems are in place, and development can continue where I left off. Changes made to the project structure of Odyssey. Details of how the system works will be included in the upcoming engine overview document.

Movement and delays

There is good and bad news.

The good news is that development is rolling along quickly, but the bad news is that code revisions have slowed the progress of a releasable demo. I am currently reworking the model, and tweaking the generic data systems to make them easier to use. This is a good thing.

I am actively working on a full, formal design document for the framework which I will post as soon as possible. I will be checking in the first public revision to SVN soon. Demo will be coming, be patient.

Odyssey Engine Starts Rolling

Even though the engine has been in production for almost a year, this page was just set up. This new resource coincides with the internal alpha build, and a public release of a feasibility demo, due out ASAP (weeks, not months).
